http://www.mickkarn.net/ Sad news today.
5. Ok Chaps, Absolutely the last chance before I flog this on ebay, £400 for both head and cab....and thanks for the previous interest, but I won't split the head and cabs, as I need to sell both due to a space problem! Buyer collects ( thanks to the joker that suggested I drive the amp to Wales so he could check it out!).....I am in the Watford area. Cheers, Colin
6. Thanks folks, This is all really helpful....I'd never considered the pre-amp option before. Cheers, Col
7. Hi folks, I am just interested to know what amps people use for their uprights. I use a Gallien Krueger 150Mb, with a Fishman pick-up (not sure of the model though) both of which I've had for many years, and I am looking for something newer.....any advice or opinions appreciated! Thanks, Col
8. Ok folks, I've had a couple of offers for just the head, but really I'm looking to sell the head and cab together at the moment. I might be up for a trade.......but not for another amp, since this one is surplus to requirements anyway, but any interesting basses, please PM me. Cheers, Col
9. Hello folks, I am resurrecting this thread, I've been a terrible, terrible slacker with bothering to get the stuff sold, but as I've just sold one of the cabs today, is anyone interested in the remaining speaker and head before I get myself over to ebay? I would accept £450 for both.

Mick Karn

The appeal is to help him and his family financially, I've pasted the text from his website www.mickkarn.net below: MICK KARN APPEAL - Posted 4th June 2010 With great sadness we regret to inform you that Mick has recently been diagnosed with advanced stages of cancer. Mick is currently in a positive mood and undergoing further tests and treatment. His family and friends are close with him, supporting him in practical ways, and surrounding him with their love, friendship and care. Mick has been struggling financially for some considerable time now and we are hoping that this appeal may help to raise funds for any necessary treatment and perhaps go some way towards providing a small degree of financial support whilst Mick's immediate family provide the care and comfort we would all wish for him. We are hoping that his friends, fans and musical colleagues will, over the coming months, offer any support they feel capable of giving. Quite aside from the sheer brunt of daunting medically-related costs, Mick's clear and major concern is for the security and well being of his wife and young son. If you would like to make a donation whether as an individual or as a group, you can do so via the paypal link below which has been set up for this sole and express purpose. Any support you are able to give, no matter how small, could make a difference in helping Mick cope during this difficult period. His friends will be looking at a variety of ways to raise funds. If you would simply like to leave your kind messages of support for Mick, please do so, here: Messages We will keep you all updated as often as we can. Please do note that news is released with Mick's full approval. Posted: 3rd June 2010

14. The Telemann Cello duets are good, you can get them here, with Midi Files also, great practice. http://www.virtualsheetmusic.com/score/CanonicVcOffer.html

..anyone else dig this guy?, I've followed his output since an album called "Drum the Bass" about 10 years ago, he does some interesting stuff on a carved up fretless. Check the videos on his webpage www.shri.co.uk

Can

yeah Can and Holger Czukay, great stuff. I think Ege Bamyasi might be my overall fave.
18. Helmut Hattler from German band Kraan is great with a pick. There's some great stuff on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A11bAJOOqF8
19. +1 for Tackhead. He also has a duo with Living Colour drummer Wil Calhoun called Headfake. Also, check out his DVD "New Dimensions for Bass", where he goes through his approach, and his unorthodox slap technique.
20. Plus one on the disappearing G string! I'm glad someone else has noticed this, and I'm not going selectively deaf. I have a 3 band EQ Stingray, and it has a very uneven response across the strings compared to any of my other basses. A bit frustrating really, as I enjoy playing it, but it gets left behind when i can choose between basses with a better response.
21. Sting plays exactly "the right thing" on so many Police tracks. Can anyone imagine "Walking on the Moon" with a different bassline, or "The Beds too Big Without You" for instance? Tons of great, if minimal basslines on those records, and Copeland makes it all work in his own way too. It's good to remember, that on bass the number of note you play is generally in inverse proportion to the size of your audience.
22. ......the silly **** obviously hasn't heard Hellmutt Hattler for one, awesome with a pick..... http://blip.tv/file/1765542
23. Fred T. Baker on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAdh0rKYnXk Did a great solo album "Bassically Speakin'" in the late eighties, anyone know any more?
24. Chaps, I've been having a lot of fun with a new Bass Micro Synth pedal from Electro Harmonix, but like a dick, I tripped on it last night and busted three of the switches on top. It all still works but I'm less than impressed with the build quality. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions about how to replace these? (or maybe recommend a similar, but better built pedal?) I really liked the way it's possible to play with the switches on the fly whilst playing, now I have to wedge a credit card in the gaps to change the sounds......
25. I have this book, it's very different to your average method book. Lots of stuff you won't find elsewhere and some unique (and quite difficult) exercises. A bit of a mathematical approach at times, but if you are looking for a "rut buster", it's well worth it! Col
