1. McGeoch was a fantastic guitarist, such a pity. Magazine are one of my all-time favourite bands; McGeoch and Adamson worked together really well. I like bands where there isn't any real prominent instrument all the time, and Magazine fit the bill perfectly. Along with Dave Formula's keyboards everything fitted brilliantly. +1 from me..... Check this out then,: http://www.myspace.com/magazineofficial I think I'll be going to the Forum
2. Hmm, ....better to think of it this way, if you really learn something that helps you out, or takes you where you want to be with your playing, the slightly higher price is well worth it. I guess you have to try it and see.... I had a real lightbulb moment with a teacher I used to visit, he was charging me 25 quid an hour, and I had to travel two hours to get there, this was in 1991 so it was expensive for the time, and relative to my earnings also. He really sorted me out on a few things and I'm glad I made the effort to seek him out, rather than fumble around on my own. Hope that helps.
3. Once played "The Thrill Has Gone" at a 25th wedding anniversary - and I remember playing the Dawn Penn reggae song "No, No, No (you don't love me anymore)" as the first number at a wedding some years ago.
4. Allright Geezers, no interest as yet, so I'm open to any serious offers! If you're looking for a powerful, punchy, versatile rig look no further! Cheers, Col
5. Just wondered if anyone out there has used a "Fat Finger"? These are the clamp type things that fix to the headstock, and supposedly add sustain. I am curious to know if they actually make any difference. ~Cheers, Col
6. He's been mentioned on this forum before, but Marlowe DK on youtube has some nice slap and funk videos, I like this double thumping one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_evMBRIm2rY
7. I've never played a Sterling, but I have both a Bongo HH and a Stingray (3EQ). The Stingray is without doubt a great instrument, nice to play and has a feel and shape I'm comfortable with. It definately has a lower output on the G string though which I'm lead to believe Stingrays often suffer with. The Bongo really works for me though, a very versatile range of sounds and tones, and an even response all over the neck. I know some don't like the look of it, which might affect it's resale value, but if that doesn't bother you, you'll probably find the Bongo a better bet in the long run. Thinking about it again, I actually rarely play the Stingray these days and reach for the Bongo instead.......
8. All Sold now, Thanks folks! Cheers Col (PS. Quick shameless plug - I still have the Tech 21 amp and cabs for sale, see thread in the amps and cabs section....)
9. OK Folks, Price drop! - Now looking for £680 for the lot. I would be willing to sell one of the cabs individually, how does £200 sound? Col.
10. http://www.gumtree.com/london/97/18814897.html Thought I'd found a bargain, but I strongly believe the above ad to be a fake. The seller has just moved out of London to Aberdeen, can't talk on the phone, as he has a bad throat, can't post me any other pictures, and ignores most of my questions. He is however happy to receive 1200 quid into his bank account. A guitarist mate of mine was after a Gibson, on ebay, lost the sale, but followed up with the winning buyer, a swiss dude, who lost all his money! There's a Wal fretless listed on the same site: the sellers reply to me yesterday: i recently moved to kirkwall, orkney ,if this isn't a problem for you i can send you some pictures cheers I smell bullshit!
11. Actually, after a bit of thought how about £14 per set? (+ £2 postage for one set) £65 for 5 sets, (with £5 for postage) Col
12.
Hi there, I have 22 sets of roundwound Ernie Ball Regular Slinky 5 string sets to sell, (the ones in the green packets). guages are: 45, 65, 80, 100, 130 I bought these for a tour when I needed to play a five string, and I no longer have said five string, so I'm selling the strings. £18 a set, or £350 quid the lot. £2 postage per set, I'll have to work out the postage for multiple sets, but will obviously work out a bit less than £2 a set, and if you buy the lot I think I should send them registered or something...... I'm good with Paypal, a cheque or cash if you want to pick-up and save on the postage (Watford area) heres a picture of them: Col
14. Actually, the notion of splitting the stuff up hadn't occurred to me. Sorry, I guess I'm a bit reluctant to do this, I'd rather sell the lot together. Col
15. Hi all, I'm Selling my Tech21 LM 300 amp head (with footswitch) and two 4x 10" cabs, used, but good condition. Note that the photos show the amp cased in a 2u rack, which I wasn't planning on selling, but I could let it go for a bit extra. You only see one speaker in the photos, as the other doesn't fit in my basement, so it's stashed away in the living room under some of the wifes decorations Technical spec for the amp is here: http://www.tech21nyc.com/lm300.html and the speakers here: B410 Bass Speaker Cabinet - 400-watt, 8-Ohm 4x10 bass cabinet loaded with cast-frame, custom Eminence® speakers. Combines the best of all worlds: the crisp top-end of the best '60s-'70s British guitar(!) speakers with the warm, round and lush low-end of classic American bass amps, and beefy mid-range punch. The Tech 21 B410 was designed specifically without a horn. This provides greater versatility by eliminating the shrill and artificial sounds particularly associated with distortion settings. Go clean or go dirty. Go with a Tech 21 B410 bass cabinet! I didn't know much about Tech 21 gear before I bought this, but I wasn't dissapointed! It's great amp with a very powerful sound, the two channels can be used separately or both together, effectively giving you a three channel amp. I normally use one channel as a distortion channel and one as a clean one. The blend control on the top channel is very useful if you have a bass with a piezo pick-up, as it allows you to mix the direct sound of the bass, with the amped signal, and makes for some very flexible tone control. I'm only really selling it 'cos I've just had my second child, and can't really justify keeping it for the amount of gigs that I need it for. I reckon £800 ONO is a fair price for the lot, with the 2u case an extra £50?, I'm in the Watford area. This is way too big to ship, so buyer will have to collect. I might be able to deliver at mutually convenient time...
