So it is incorporated into something "concrete" not "abstract" as in I say I can read. I can read because I want to play these Jamerson lines out of SITSOM book, or get session work, or appear like I am into Jazz if I ritualized the practice it makes it more real...maybe...it has a pay-off immediate but also is an obvious "cross-referenced" skill. and it's real practice too... it really does get in... which is another reason why TAB sucks...IMHO opinion you will remember what you learn to read for "life" not for one gig of the Tab I downloaded.

as I've got older and more "into" Jazz I've come to appreciate the pentatonics a bit more. one thing is to use them from "different" starts. so for example we can use the minor pentatonic on a major chord, starting from the 6th chord is Abmaj...start the minor pentatonic from the F (F = 6th of Ab major) on a dominant chord try the b3 to get an altered sound and on half diminished go from the 4th something to try anyway. The Melodic Minor I agree is very important and well worthy of serious exploration I think it is important to have a go at this, it's chock full of goodness.

also arpeggios from the 3 not the root 3 - 5- 7- 9 like this Open E string exercise and singing along, it may help your ears "settle" or "fix" as you do minor or major modes. You got to be able to hear the difference. Got= I think it's important.

it's good to practice this stuff in the cycle of fourths because the I-IV movement is also the "position" of II-V which is Jazz City

must be a lot of poor cabinet design with smaller than 15" speakers in them then. Commonly would it not be accurate to state that cabinets with 15" or larger drivers handle a low B string better? It may be plop but I'd wager most players wanting the Low B would also consider using 15" speaker as par for the course. the blanket was more to do with the Original Post. Generally I buy gear that is a nice color, is used by someone famous I like, or in this case, I had room on my pedal board

well the Boss PQ-3B is on my pedal board and I think 5 string bass means 15" speakers. potentially not as cheap a solution as a blanket under your cabinet though.

that Vibrator bass line is a good one. er, sort of A minor (Dorian) to cover the whole cut really. the notes from that will cover the whole piece anyway it's all the feel. I do like the chromatic pick-up to the octave.

Boss CEB-3 you can gig with it, it wont break. like nearly every Boss Bass Pedal I have tried it takes some farting around to get the sound...but I only need it to make one good sound so it's good value. If I need a chorus that has to do 6 different types I would probably have looked elsewhere. but for the outlay it's great value.

James Eller did a world tour with Matt Johnson, they played here in Christchurch Aotearoa Sweet Bird of Truth hit like a ton of bricks the cat on keys did a good job on Holland's way cool "Uncertain Smile" solo. but most importantly I got to touch Johnny Marr's Nike adorned foot that is a claim to fame Irene Cara would be proud of.
