Drop Ashdown an email here and i'm sure they'll get back to you quickly: http://www.ashdownmusic.com/contact/index.asp
could do but i really wanted to now how good they were or not!dont think martin would reply honestly to that one!did email them yesterday on another matter and he replyed within ten minutes so must have caught him on a good day.

hi,anyone now what drivers ashdown used in their abm cabs before they used blueline ones?i think they used celestion but im not sure and were they any good?thanks in advance(i hope).

the ampeg 4x10hlf is a 500w 4ohm cab so would be best on its own,if you added another 40hm cab your amp would need to go to 2ohm.(you probably now that anyway)you could go with the 4x10he + 1x15 to get a great sound and getting max power from your amp, that is if you love the ampeg sound!might be tempted to sell my nearly new 4x10he!
I'm thinking of keeping the MAG300 head from my Ashdown MAG300 C115 combo amd making/acquiring a sleeve for it. That leaves me with a cabinet with a 1 x 15" driver and no head. Would this be of any use to anyone for £40 or so? With a bit of woodwork (or just blanks put in where the amp went) it would make a reasonable extension cab. I could fit a connector plate with Speakons in if that would help.
how much just for the driver?
I would take that comment with a pinch of salt. You can easily get a great sound, and for years many of us have, by mixing and matching cabs. 10's and 15's sound great and I'm finding out at the moment that 10's and 12's go well together.
wondered if i would have been better with 1x15 &2x10.what i meant was with my ampeg 4x10 cab i should really add ampeg cabs like 1x15 or 1x12 or 2x10 instead of say a trace, peavey, ashdown cab.
-
well tryed it and sounded loud enough to me .especially when i hooked up a te 1x15,although the sound coming out of it was a bit muffled, did i read on here that its not a good idea too mix cabs together?IE ampeg with ashdown, trace with peavey etc.think it would look better anyway if kept the same.
Got saddled with someone else's rig at a gig recently - an Ashdown Evo 500 head with a 1x15 & 4x8. Absolutely hated it, boomy, woolly, lacking in any kind of definition. I think it was the 15 that was causing the most problems but when I pulled it out of the rig the 4x8 wasn't really doing it for me either. Shame as it was my first gig for ages & I could easily have bought my own gear but as we were one of three bands on the bill we all agreed to use the same rig to avoid hassle of swapping stuff out. Nice of the Ashdown owner to let us all use his rig but I really didn't get on with it at all. Have a vague feeling it might have sounded a bit better out front but not 100% convinced!
had the same situation but with a behringer 450 combo,no time to set it up properly sounded terrible infact probably one of the worst sounds ive ever heard.sound man wasnt much better!
-
thanks for all that, iwill try it out later in the week.i was thinking of buying a 1x15 and 2x10 abm cabs instead of the ampeg.i'll try it with a 1x15 cab and see what that sounds like.should have waited for a 4ohm 4x10 cab i think!
-
thanks for that andy, got a passive bass so its not that, sounded ok first time i tried it.i will see how it is in the week.hope its not the amp only had it a month.
-
sorry should have said, its the svt classic.

hi,looking at reviews for my cab several people said that for 500w they seem to be quieter than other cabs and probably agree with them.i got 500 evo11 powering it so its putting about 300w through it .i have to crank it up fairly to be heard, anyone else think they are lacking in volume?suppose will have to get another 8ohm cab to get full power or sell it!
OK, so the boys at SC have 2 years 0% APR on this week, and it's just too good an offer not to look into. What rig, up to say £600 would you pick from their range? I'm a precision kind of guy and like the Classic British Tone kind of thing. I'd also like it to be (one fat) man portable please. TIA
sc in norwich were doing abm combo's for £629 but would go lower than that they are getting a bit desperate so do alot of haggling.i dealt with the manager who was most helpful and the most knowledgeable.

i would go for the evo11 as well, just bought one myself .after a bit of haggling got £100 off their list price.
anyone got any other ideas other than ashdown?
go to your local music store and try everything hopefully they will have a good selection(or maybe not)then you will hear it for yourself.for £500 it should be good no matter what name is on it.people have different opinions thats why their is several to choose from.i spent 2 hours trying different gear before i bought anything.good luck with your search anyway.
hi, can someone please reccommend any good 4x10 cabs that are £500 or under and 30KG (65lbs) or under. many thanks
ampeg svt410he sounds superb not sure of the weight though, least mines on castors but doesnt seem heavy.dont think you would get new one for £500 unless there was a bloody good deal somewhere, also tryed ashdown abm 4x10 not bad and they would be under £500 (sound control).but weigh 36kg
Hi All, I recently (like 2 weeks ago) bought a "brand new" ABM500 MKII 210 combo from my local large music store - Turns out that it was actually made in 2005 which means it was made in England, rather than China. I don't really know how I feel about this. On one hand I'm kinda pissed off that the amp that I bought as "new" has actually been sat around in the shop for over 3 years, but on the other I'm glad that it's English made. What do you guys reckon? Thanks Chris
rather have english one than a made in prc one.you will still have ashdowns warranty which by all accounts is superb.
love my mag210, no problems and its been a year now, though still not sure if the sub harmonic thingy works but maybe thats just me and the sound is spot on. though there is that little voice in the back of my head.
bought the abm evo 11 head at a great price from sound control(allthough old stock)and i cant hear no differance when using sub harmonic either, but still a great sound!
Now you've got me stumped- I cant see it being a dead spot or it shoudl eb the same with teh other amp.... can you try another head.... so same bass lead and cab but different head?
same bass lead but when i play through my little peavey combo its ok and im sure it was ok with my trace combo,so it sounds like either the ashdown head or the ampeg cab is at fault somehow.
-
New in January but how old are they? I have bought new basses that havve been on display for 4 yrs! Does your J have a pre amp fitted? It only does it on the D string and not on the G when playing the same notes? If so try string first and if that deosnt do it sounds like a dead spot-- Other thing what main amp and what practice amp?
no pre-amp on the jazz.got a ashdown abm evo11 500w head with ampeg 4x10 cab, practice amp is a peavey minx 110.cant remember a dead spot like that when using a trace 1x15 combo 2 weeks ago.just tryed with small amp not a dead spot in sight!
-
Old strings ? when did you change them last? Has it always done it or started just recently? Do you have adjustable pole pups?
the strings are what was on the bass when i bought it in january new,it has just started but only on my main set up not my practice amp.seems a bit strange to me,oh and i have adjusted pups slightly as well.
-
wonder if anyone has had the same problem.i play a fender j bass through a ashdown 500 evo11 with a ampeg 4x10 he cab.on the d string the further i play up the neck the quieter the sound gets especially on the 10 th fret yet when i played through my practice amp it seemed ok.any ideas?
