  1. My oldest instrument is a rather battered Kimbara acoustic, which either needs gifting to a charity shop, or using as a test bed for learning how to set up properly.

Oldest bass is my RW Precision in 2TSB which I've had for 6 years. Lovely bass, but think that's going to have to go in recognition of what appears to be arthritis in my fretting hand. Short or medium scale here we go...!

  2. Parking any comment about the odd arrangement the band have remuneration/expenses wise, I would share your discomfort. There is money available, none of which will be going to the dep who is doing everyone a favour.

This was my bass for a couple of years as @ricksterphilhas said above and it really is a fabulous instrument!

A total joy to play, sounds gorgeous and looks as cool as F**k!

At this price, you won't find a better and more unique T-Bird anywhere, I guarantee you.

    GLWTS 👍😊

Another former owner here, I'd echo @silverfoxnik's comments. This bass sounds absolutely immense and looks fab!

I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by the Proclaimers.

Got a wedding on Thursday and they've asked us to learn this. "I'll busk it on the night", I thought...

It's taken me over an hour to nail the note placement 😐 As far as I'm concerned, those boys can go 500 miles and multiply, and they can go 500 more.

Honestly don't know why I've bothered - a Thursday wedding during school summer hols means a dancefloor full of kids and sober parents, we'll see...

Anyone else struggled with this one?

Ha, same! We have a wedding on Saturday (singer's nephew, our first gig for nearly 4 years) and we've been asked to do this. It is a tricky blighter to get right🙂

I saw The Who with Pino on bass at the O2 maybe 10 years ago. He needn't have bothered ... I didn't hear a single bass note all evening, the sound was that bad.

I thought it was down to the venue (although the Stones sounded OK there) until I saw Fleetwood Mac at the O2; one of the best live bass sounds I've ever heard from Mr. McVie. He had a bloody great rolling rack unit of about 10 Orange amps next to him on stage, which I thought was a fair approach to foldback ...

Had exactly the same experience seeing The Who with Pino at the First Direct in Leeds a similar time ago - so not a venue problem.

    Hi all,

Right - all those that expressed an interest in acquiring one of these prints please raise your hands. I’d almost forgotten about this until @mowf messaged me last week asking if he’s missed a print run.

Life has (as it so often does) gotten in the way, but things have evened out somewhat, so again, if there is enough interest, I’ll get a run printed. Haven’t worked out a price yet (as I need a quote from the printers) but as soon as I get a final number I can PM each of you with details. 😊

    Yes, one for me please👍

The York branch is destined for closure. Banks Musicroom is believed to be the oldest

music shop in the UK, having opened in 1756.
A sad sign of the times.

Banks' closure will leave quite a hole in York's retail landscape as well as depriving us of quite a decent music shop. Helpful staff and a decent selection of instruments, though the usual brands and no second hand stuff.

  8. Like others, I came to 6 via getting a motor with DAB (so that'll be 2011 and the Mondeo). I tend to dip in and out and avoid any repetition from the playlists, but enjoy the weekend and evening slots particularly. Gideon Coe has accompanied many a drive home from rehearsal.

    I miss Shaun Keaveny though...

Protect your hearing for as long as possible. Tinnitus puts paid to the luxury of Silence, for ever. As a dubious 'bonus', I now have a Dawn Chorus at Dawn, Noon, Midnight and all points west. Nowt to do about it, but if it can be staved off for as long as possible, it's worth the effort. Just sayin'. :friends:

Wish you'd told me this a few decades ago Dad...😎
