1.
In total agreement with jakesbass. Seems BC needs a forum for the under 12s.
.....and also one for miserable old men who could do with a bunk up!
 2. I'd say play left handed. You're left handed. Be proud!
 3.
Andy Peters??? What's he got to do with the topic? Anyway, I thought you disliked Berlin because of his attitudes to certain things and his chin stroking noise..so in your opinion, he's a bit of a cock and it's nothing to do with doing something different or the music he plays.....just you think he's a bit of a cock?
He plays sh*t music, but so do a number of people on here who I don't think are cocks. His general attitude makes him a bit of a cock though. When you combine that with the sh*t music, it makes him an uber-cock. The guy talks as if he's is the most succesful and influential bass player that has ever lived. Mention his name anywhere apart from a bass forum/magazine and people have no idea who he is. Thats the problem with owning a bass school I suppose. He's surrounded by people kissing his arse like he invented the instrument. And then, to make things worse, he ties massive looped laces on his sh*t trainers.
 4.
Don't get me wrong, i wish i was as talented as him, but it's not necessarily his music i dislike, it's his 'i'm the best and anybody that doesn't do it the way i do it is an idiot' attitude that i dislike.
...and his sh*tty trainers.
 5.
It's always the same...a player does/says something different and they get shot down...." Oh no! there's a bass player venturing past the second fret...and look! he's leaving the rest of us standing.....how dare he!" Get a grip! these players deserve to be where they are. There's too much of this "god he's good, he must be a cock!" Face up to it, these type of players/musicians are good and not just in one area of music.
I'm not really too bothered about what music he plays, he's hardly jumping out of my radio every 5 minutes. I dislike him for just being a bit of a cock. Nothing to do with doing something different. I dislike him in the way I dislike Andy Peters. He's also a cock.
 6.
Oh dear. Another poo slinging match? I wouldn't mind having a chat with both of them to be honest! Jeff has loads of experience in lots of different musical situations and places, and also very knowledgeable and technical; I'd be happy to have a discussion about that. Also, whilst I don't totally dig the Beatles music, I do (on occasion) admire their songwriting ability. Paul has survived how many years of drugs, fame and the general lifestyle of a music 'legend' (forgive the term). Look at the positives! Let us try to stop being so 'British' and on the offensive all the time. Mark
Apart from the odd "cockface" and calling Berlin a dick, I think there's been very little mudslinging. I'd like to think its mostly tongue in cheek. I'd rather chat with McCartney, because although I don't like the guy, his life has been amazingly interesting. I think Berlin is pretty far removed from what the average player is all about. I don't have the time or inclination to be as technical as him. I think for that reason, it would be a pretty boring conversation with him. He'd be talking about a Cmaj7 and I'd be asking him if he wants a pork scratching.
 7.
but the fact is he has more fans than you and it seems that fact is unbearable for you! So they are different, too technical for you, bad shoes/hair, whatever. Big deal. Why some of you have to get so over the top about it is beyond me.
I think the problem lies in the fact that he has half the fans that he thinks he has. Or at least manages to convey that impression when being interviewed. That and the fact he mostly plays music that people pretent to like. If you say its crap, you get called jealous/uneducated/untalented. (2 out of 3 are true in my case). As for going over the top, some people are just like that. And he does dress like a second rate accountant on a day off. I bet his jeans are elasticated.
 8.
What I find unendingly amusing about this is that the people on either side of the debate seem to have never ending reserves for thinking that their view is the right one. You are all dum shits if you don't realise it's a variety of music that makes the whole picture, you are not required to like it all. I like lots of music but don't really dig opera, I don't however, go around calling in to question the integrity of the form and it's patrons based on what they wear, how they present themselves, or what they do in their pyjamas. Have a view fine but for f***s sake stop with the one sided hystrionics and let others get on with what they enjoy. I'm f***ing bored of this now. BBC, Bassmunkee, Budget Bassist. the tone of your rancour suggests nothing other than caveman like envy.
Of course I feel my view is the right one! That's why its my view. If I thought there were more accurate views out there, I'd adopt those. I have no doubt that Berlin is very skillful, and also very well versed in theory. That doesn't change the fact that he wears sh*t trainers and plays Jazz. Even Bilbo has admitted that his love of Jazz was a joke that got out of hand. Its difficult to defend Berlin by saying that those detractors (me) are not open to other peoples views, when he prides himself on this philosophy.
 9. You can't beat a nice Warwick. Yum.
 10.
It can be seen as pretentious with technical ability alone, I reckon when musical knowledge is added with technical ability it ends up as a musician who is generally a cut above most.
....who invariably plays sh*t. Why do accomplished musicians always feel the need to play overly technical horse sh*t? That's why the only people who have heard if Jeff Berlin are other musos that sit around stroking their chin to his noise.
 11. That is lovely. Have a bump.
 12.
Gigging eh? Where's my 20%?
You're more than welcome to 20% of my bass playing earnings to date!
 13.
So now, choice of footwear is more important than technical ability and musical knowledge? Well I never..........
Without doubt. We all know that most people with amazing technical ability end up playing pretentious sh*t. (Jazz I like to call it.)
 14. I think it goes G, then F.
 15. I play through (comparitively) crap gear and am perfectly happy with that. I sometimes wonder what's wrong with me, as I see basses/amps I like but have no massive desire to replace what I've got. I own 2 basses, only ever use 1 of them. For those who care, my sh*t gear is as follows: 2007 Fender MIA Jazz Peavey Firebass Head No-name 2x10 300W cab (made by GM Audio in Essex I think?) It all weighs a tonne, but it never leaves my flat. If I'm rehearsing I use the studio Trace, gigging I use any old bit of tut they've got laying around.
 16.
Me too....More over I KNOW he is right, and most of us dont want to admit it,regardless of how he says it! Teaching standards are sh*t,as are the standards of what these pupils from so called centers of 'Modern music' education keep pumping out. Being proud about being incapable of playing something,be it a style of technique ,isnt really anything to be proud of.
I don't doubt that he's right about most music schools being crap. I just think he's a dick. I mean just look at his trainers in the above pic.
 17. Apparently this bass has been cheating on him with Darren from up the pub. What we don't know yet is that Kev is having an affair with Darren's fiance Debby! Stay tuned folks.
 18. Don't get me wrong, I don't think its a good idea to play w***ered, but I find between 4-6 pints means I enjoy myself a hell of a lot more.
 19.
I don't drink... another terrible psychological failing
Slightly off topic, but it seems like a lot of bass players don't drink.
 20. I'd definitely suggest a few beers. You may play worse, but you'll care less!
 21. I play in a band where I am by far the least experienced and talented. Most of the other guys have gigged 40+ times. I did my first ever gig a couple of months ago. I've now done a total of 4! Strangely, I always seem to be the least nervous. I find a good few pints helps. Also, I tend to think to myself "its only bass - most people can't tell when you f***-up". I then look at the 40 people watching and it kinda puts things into perspective. Until I play Wembley, I view every gig as a rehearsal.
 22. I think selling this and buying another bass is a fantastic idea. I doubt after your next purchase you''ll even look at another bass again, let alone buy one.
 23.
McCartney irritates me more than Berlin, there again you can't really compare the two, they're coming from two different places.
You're right. One is coming from one of the most successful and influential bands of all time, the other other is noodling some Jazz sh*te and wittering on about metronomes.
 24.
Paul who ?....oh yeah he's the pretentious cock who helicoptered into Glastonbury and I couldn't be bothered to watch him....
I agree, McCartney is a stoat-faced cock of the highest order. But like it or not, he's still a pretty big deal. Unlike Jeffery Berlin who is a nobody.
 25.
Jeff's great...says what he thinks!
Agreed, but he thinks stupid things. He talks like he's Paul McCartney, but outside of the fraction of a percent of people who play bass, he's a nobody. He should be bombed like his namesake.
