2.
Windows XP Windows Vista or Vista SP1 (32 bit or 64 bit?) Linux Mac OS X are the common ones at the moment
Its one of the top 2! But I rember it matching the one it said on the box. The fact that I managed to dots to appear on ableton when I played (although I couldn't hear anything when I played it back), would suggest that it functions to a degree. I was under the impression that I couldn't install the drivers partially - either it wouldn't work at all or it would work fine (if that makes sense). The trouble is, I don't know what it should do, so I've got nothing to compare it too.
 3.
What Operating system are you running?
I don't know. When asking me questions about IT, its probably best to make them multiple choice!
 4.
Ok, well if your plugging the guitar right in for now, which i think would be best for now to keep it simple. plug the bass in to the back and make sure the little button is in the out position. Plug your headphones in and set the Mix control to 12oclock. Then when your playing bas you should see the signal light come one, then turn the mic input up till it just starts to clip with the red light. Then follow the steps for Audacity and away you go. The input device should list the "M-Audio ASIO drivers" or something similar, just use them. And you should e all ready.
Thank you for all your help (Archetype, Charic, Clauster and everyone else). I will try this. I have my doubts if it will work though. I don't think the Audio Interface is properly installed thogh. When I try and install it, it keeps saying I've got the wrong OS. I'm sure I haven't. Also, its really quiet, no matter what knobs I twist. It doesn't help that I'm deaf so it has to be loud or I can't make it out.
 5.
Right then. last question is how are you plugging your bass into the interface? is it the bass right into the back. or as it the bass to the amp to the interface? if its via the amp what kind of cable is it connecting the amp and the interface. If you can answer these then i will have everything i need Archetype
I thinks its straight from my bass into the back. I struggle to recall under the red mist. Although I'd rather mic up my amp and plug the mic into the audio interface (because I like my amp).
 6.
Downloads and installs in seconds, then you just set your input device in the "edit" "preferences" menu, create a track and press record.
See, thats where I'd f*** up. Input device? What options are there? I'm only plugging one thing into my PC! All I want is to be able to drag and dump drum loops (that will be saved in a file called "drum loops") then play over the top whilst recording. I'll then do the same thing with my guitar. I'll then have a song. The most advanced I want to get is maybe a volume control for the individual tracks. But I'm not that fussed.
 7. I'm gonna give a go tomorrow. Maybe tonight - but its probably not a good idea for me to do before bed!
 8.
Well they will all have some for gain, that way what your recording is nice and audible. Give Audacity a try, I have heard plenty of people who have said they love it for its simplicity ( ) If you can find out which interface it is i will help you out, but i need to know which interface you are using. And once you get started its very easy. Archetype
This one: http://www.dv247.com/invt/24169/ Its quite a nice looking box. So far I've managed to hear my bass thorough my headphones when I plug it in, but its slightly quieter than a mouse.
 9.
Ah, but Audacity is FREE!!!! FREE I tells you, FREEEEEEE!
First bit of good news I've had all week. I bet there's a catch. If its not financial, you probably need to download lemonwire or something there save it to some weird drive and then i'll get error messages using words I don't understand. You'd never believe that when tested, I actually have a reasonably high IQ!!
 10.
Lol, feel sorry for the interface. which interface was it? Archetype
Dunno. Its a box with a few knobs and some sockets. The knobs don't seem to do much. I'd try Audacity, but I just can't warrant spending any more cash on this stuff. And I'm pretty sure I won't find it simple at all. In fact, its not even the cash. My sanity can't stand these type of things. The rage keeps me up at night causing me to come ranting and swearing on here. I just can't understand why I need to set any parameters, twist any knobs, tick any boxes to record a four string instrument. It f***s me off so much!
 11.
Agreed, What gear did you go for maybe we can help to Archetype
Dunno what its called? Ableton? Appleton? Something like that. I have a feeling I'm going to find them all as sh*t as each other though. I can't even use itunes. But itunes is for c**ts. These things seemed to be designed for music producers. I just want to record basic songs. I tong want to twiddle knobs. I can do that on my amp. Has technology not progressed to a stage where we can just plug things in and go? As you can tell, I'm not the most patient of people and tend to overeact. I almost put a hammer through the audio interface last night.
 12.
dont be so hasty, give the manual a quick flick and it should make sense.
I've tried that. It's no good. All this MIDI/Audio crap. I just want to plug my bass in and press record. Like a tape recorder but on my PC. They have a section for quick start lessons to give you the basics. Unfortunately on the crap freebie you get, that folder is empty. I can't even install the driver for the Audio Interface properly. Why does it need a driver? Its so simple. 2 hours last night and I couldn't even work out how to record anything to play back. Not a thing. When did life get so complicated? Who needs all these options. Its part of the reason I hate active basses. Just 4 strings and a jack socket. Don't even care about tone or volume. I'm having a really bad week.
 13. Well, I've just got my hands on this stuff and I'm pretty sure its going back in the box and then probably into the bin. All I want is a big red button that says "record" and then be able to drag what i record about a bit. This peice of sh*t makes absolutely no sense to me, and I'm pretty sure it never will. f***ing buttons and knobs everywhere. What a wind up. £100 down the f***ing drain.
 14.
Out towards Hildenborough way, and effectively when I was 18 and went to Uni...
How old are you BassMunkee? I might know you. Where did you drink/go to school?
 15.
I was born and raised in Tonbridge...
Really? Where abouts and how old were you when you escaped?
 16.
I met Jeff a couple of years ago,and he couldn't have been nicer. He was happy to talk and came across as being passionate about music without being arrogant. He then proceeded to play briliantly.
When I met him, he was the same. He's also a very good magician. He did this trick where I had to tug on this weird hairless rabbit to make it dissappear, but I think I did it too hard because it was sick on my hand then just shrivelled up.
 17.
They've got you by the package! Good luck getting it back. Let us know when you've set it all up and it wont work!
I just know it won't work. And I have no patience whatsoever. I have a feeling there'll be tears before bedtime.
 18.
That's f*cking funny. You are a hard man! They could ransak your house while you're at work!
Not really. They are not entitled to put their business waste in with my domestic waste. All I do is return it to them. Its ususlly about 300 T-Mobile brochures that have been coated in baked bean sauce. I quite enjoy standing in Tonbridge High Street at 8:30 in the evening in a fit of rage, individually posting them through the door. I managed to cover pretty much the whole floor last time. Bet thats fun clearing up on a Tuesday morning. I've just called them actually, and they do have my package.
 19.
How?
I told them.
 20.
Never previously having heard of Jeff Berlin, I stayed away from this thread until today. Then I was lucky enough to have a drink last night with someone who actually knows the guy, so I settled down 20 minutes ago to read through the thread. Ye Gods And Little Fishes. What a pointless, dispiriting and unfunny exercise. That is all.
You still read it. And then commented on it.
 21.
LOL Do they know it's you?
Yeah.
 22. ...and to make things worse, the most likely place they have delivered it to is the shop below where I live. This is sh*t because firslty, they hut over 3 hours before I get home and secondly, they hate be because I'm constantly posting their rubbish through their letterbocks when they're closed after they fill up my wheely bin with their waste.
 23. Well I bought some stuff, but unfortunately had to deal with these clowns: http://www.dv247.com/ Not only did the website not work, but the smacktards in the web team treat you like a c*** when you tell them that their site is screwed. You even have to email them a screen dump for them to believe you. They then use UPS to deliver it. I've never encountered a bigger bunch of c**ts. They've delivered my gear to an unknown address today. I had 2 contradictory notes pushed through my door by some illiterate retard. When I try and call the c**ts, their offices shut at 8.00pm. Unfortately, I have a job, so dont get home before 8.30, so I'm now £100 lighter with nothing to show for it. I'll call them tomorrow and if I don't get some retard on the phone sobbing his/hers eyes out at how rude I am, then I'm losing my touch. All I crave is simplicity. Let me buy something. Deliver it through my letterbox. UPS c**ts.
 24.
Hey guys if he wants to try and sell it for more than a new one thats up to him. Wish I could live on a planet where you can buy new stuff, use it and sell it on and get your money back.
Ahhh, but apparently........ ....the house always wins.
 25. Pissman. Brilliant!
