1. Hi all I've recently decided to start playing bass again after attempting to learn guitar. The thing is i don't really have a ton of money for lessons and there is a serious lack of tutors in my area (Exeter). I spotted Scott Devines site. which looks both informative and helpful. I was just wondering if anyone had any feedback on his "academy" option. It cost around £50 a year and seems like good value. There is a total beginners course and he also offers a 30 day money back guarantee. Any feedback is appreciated. also if anyone can point me in the direction of a good bass tutor in or around Exeter that would be great.
2. If your ever down Devon way (a long shot i know) let me know. I would be interested in the combo.
3. Thanks for all the replys, really liking the look of the peavey basses, were they really nearly £250 brand new or is that gg fibbing a little? The bass I found on the bay is literally just down the road from me in the same town, I'm wondering if I can maybe knock him down a bit on price.
4. I thought as much, just found this on the bay, seem like a good deal? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-squire-bass-guitar-/261125730146?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3ccc4e6f62
5. Hi all Sorry for yet another what bass thread, I'm toying with the idea of returning to bass after a brief encounter earlier in the year. Guitaring is not really doing it for me at the moment so I'm looking to see if playing bass will. I'm looking for a cheap bass, I mean mega cheap. Under £100 or so, I've seen a few on thomann (Harley Benton) and some branded gear4music basses all at under the £100 range. The reason I don't want to spend much is in case I don't really get on with it. I don't really want to be spending out big bucks on something which may end up not being used, knowing from experience the used market isn't great at the moment so selling a decent bass may involve me losing money I don't have to lose. Also I like the idea of a P bass but have heard that you can get a P bass sound from a jazz bass but not the other way around. Any help is much appreciated and again sorry for another tedious thread. Cheers
6. Are you flexible on price or is it a firm £220 posted? Cheers
7. Hi all. Pretty much as the title says really. I'm looking to get myself another bass to start playing again after a while. I'm not looking to spend to much until I know if I want to pursue the bass properly. I have been looking at a few including Vintage, squier and recently Harley Benton. Does anybody have opinions on these... http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hot_rod_bass.htm They seem like an ok bass for the money. I'm more of a p bass man myself, but you do seem to get the best of both worlds here, (p and jazz). Any opinions would be appreciated. Cheers.

9. Hi all After much deliberation I have decided to move on my bass, bass is in excellent cond it's hardly been used, all the important info on the bass can be found here it can tell you more than I'll ever know about it. The bass in question is the spalted maple finish. http://www.djmmusic.com/ItemMatrix.asp?GroupCode=V1004&MatrixType=1 It's a very nice bass to play I just don't have the time anymore, I am located in exeter and travel to Cornwall on a regular basis. Collection would be preferred but I could at a push post. It will be about £25 to post. Pics here http://www.flickr.com/photos/69165842@N08/ Looking for £175 o.v.n.o. Now £150 Thanks for looking Any questions contact me at [email protected]
10. Found this bass on my travels, I was originally looking for a nice P bass but couldn't find one I wanted. Took a punt on it and was blown away. It's a monster. http://www.flickr.com/photos/69165842@N08/6886957364/ Not bad for £147 :-) I'm very happy indeed.
11. Thanks for all the replys guys, I'm nervous of buying blind on the net because I have had a bad experience before, I have found 1 or 2 p basses that I have like playing however as this is a big investment (for me anyway) I want to make sure I get what I want, the bass I have liked have been the wrong colour (yes I am a tart) or the wrong fingerboard ( I want a maple board). One thing that I was told when buying an bass, guitar was to make sure the neck pocket was a good snug fit. Maybe I have been at bit unlucky but every bass I have liked (colour scheme wise) has had a dreadful fit between the neck and body, for the record I have been to all the places that have been recommend in Exeter,Manchester and a few in Cornwall. I have searched the net a lot and had mixed reviews on the vintage brand, I have found a few other brands that tick the right boxes namely the ESP LTD 204 again the problem being that nobody local seems to stock them. Does anyone have any experience or opinoins on this bass Am I right to be critical about the neck pocket or is it a myth Cheers
12. Hi all After a lot of deliberation and thinking about the kind of music I would like to play, I have come to a decision that a p bass is the way to go. So I have been looking in a few music shops lately (local and not so local) and have been really struggling to find a bass that makes me want to spend the money. I thought that a MIM Fender p bass would be my best bet. Is it me or is the quality control at the Mexican fender factory run by a blind man? Some of the basses I have seen have not been worth £50 let alone £500. So I'm looking at a p bass copy at the moment from another company (not sure which yet, hence the question). Does any one know or can anyone recommend a p bass copy? I have had a look at few online but nobody seems to carry anything but fender in stock. Are the VINTAGE range any good? Any help is appreciated. Cheers.
13. Looking to move on my MIM fender jazz bass. It's about 3 weeks old and in as new condition. There is not alot i can say about these basses that's not already been said All the info about the bass can be found here http://www.fender.co...rtno=0146200502 It's finished in white with a maple fretboard and comes with the standard fender gig bag. Would prefer pick up but i'm sure i could post (at buyers cost) or i could meet half way. I'm in Exeter Looking for £300 o v n o Which i thinnk is a bargain. I'll post some pictures up later on today once the camera is charged. Any questions give me a shout. Thanks for looking Pics here http://www.flickr.com/photos/69165842@N08/
14. Thanks for all he replys guys, I'm leaning towards the sennheiser at the moment. All the reviews have been good apart from they push the cans into you head a bit to much, Has anyone had a problem with the headphones being uncomfortable? Thanks
15. Hi all As the title say's i need some recommendations, I'm looking for some headphones for home practice. I'm looking to get a decent pair of noise cancelling headphones to practice at home with, i need them to be NC because when i practice the missus is usually watching tv and i can hear that more than anything , They need to be of good quality because my hearing isn't the best. I have around £100 to spend, What can people recommend (please don't say beats, the other half has them and they are awful) Thanks
16. Hi all This is my first post on this particular forum so be gentle. Recently i decided to take up bass after wasting far to long trying the guitar. I live in exeter and after a lot of searching and getting nowhere looking for a tutor i decided to look for online tutoring. I have found a few sites online (basslessonsonline, studybass) but on both sites they put a lot of emphasis on having a 121 (real life) tutor, My question is what if i can't get, find, afford a tutor. Will taking the online course's be a waste of time or can i learn just as much by using them? I would like to find a tutor but with most people charging around £25 an hour i can't justify that kind of outlay, also from previous experience (guitar) i have found that 75% of "tutors" are just people trying to make a quick buck. Any help on this topic is much appreciated. Thanks
