Using an amp head as a power amp
thumperbob 2002 replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in Repairs and Technical
I am using a Sansamp into the fx return of either an LM2 or Little giant- depending upon the cabs I am using. It would be a great idea to find a 1000W amp that will do 2 X 4ohms that is light and cheap!! Dont know if they exist though- the lightness of it I think will be the problem. Bob -
Fender Jazz American Deluxe 5 string on finance?
thumperbob 2002 replied to rossco321's topic in General Discussion
Great bass though- I`ve got one of these and its the best sounding bass I have had in 30yrs- with Nordstrands though. Get a small loan from your family and buy one secondhand- quite a few available. That way you wont lose any money and can always sell this for more or less what you paid. I particularly like 0% interest but there is a reason for it from the retailers point of view. I would rather pay a little interest on a good deal than 0% on a bad one. -
Interesting thread. With these few gigs done with the band I am not surprised there were a few bum notes. My opinion is that gigging is the only way to get tight as a band. If you are doing only the odd gig then there will be times when it all goes off a bit. Even with lots of rehearsal ( which there was not in this case ). Everyone makes the odd mistake and to be honest most of the audience would not know anyhow! The next one will be a stormer I`ll bet. Bob

Which preamp/DI pedal for tube-y goodness and grit?
thumperbob 2002 replied to Clarky's topic in Effects
I have got the Sansamp Bass Driver Deluxe and am really happy with it- just the tone I was looking for-and also lots of other tonal options if I need them. Very quiet pedal with a high output- built like a tank and simple to use. No problem not having a mid control as effectively cutting bass and treble adds midrange! However I use the tone controls flat mostly. Best pedal I have evr bought. Bob -
Had a few gearstalkers by the stage tonight. Strange enough I have always been able to tell true musicians just by looking at them and these werent. Chinstrokers I always have called them- I could feel them staring at my playing tonight- I can tell that they werent true musicians as when I broke into some fairly basic slapping on Papa was a rolling stone they all went "Whooooahhhh! " Still - I probably would do the same with a few pints in me. Bob
Really glad you're enjoying it Bob!
Yeah really impressed with it- in fact I have re-recorded my bands 9 tracks that we sell at gigs. Done on my Roland 1680- lovely warm tone. Thanks Pal Bob

Why do people keep requesting tabs in this forum?

Some strong views on this thread- and some pretty forthright personalities - also some sweeping generalisations. The guy can play though. Bob -
Dont suppose anyone has got the music for Georgia on my mind- Ray charles- or better Maceo Parker version? easy enough to work out but I am trying to improve my reading skills. Really appreciate it Bob
why through the effects loop? I run mine in line I have a wireless, tuner, distortion then the sansamp, would you put the lot through the loop? the x5 wireless is a stomp box and sits in my effects box
Mainly to bypass the preamp section of the Little giant- that way the Sansamp is a true preamp and A am simply using the amp for power. Simplest way- the Sansamp sounds so good I dont think you would need any further EQ and the signal from this surely is too hot for an amps pre? Cheers Bob

Hi All Just bought a sansamp programmable bass driver from another basschatter. I cannot believe how well this sounds- it is the sound I have had in my head for years but strangely never 100% achieved. So simple to use too. Sounds massive- deep and clear. My ashdown little giant 1000 ( that I was really sceptical about re- its power ) absolutely kills with massive headroom. I am going straight into the effects return. Hesitate to think what my LM2 sounds like. Cheeers Bob
Nice
Yeah I would say £100 a man plus expenses is fair if its not your living. We are a 7 piece Soul band and do two monthly residencies for £300 plus drinks- mainly to get the functions to which we charge £1200-£1400 -but we dont travel more than 30 miles. We have picked up loads of weddings this year and charge the same as functions. The main thing is not to spread yourself too thin and to enjoy it! I have seen wedding bands look as though they really dont want to be playing when they are on £1000+ The more work the gig is ( weddings ) the more should be the £ Cheers Bob

I had a `Ray for 15 years and played this in all sorts of bands, Funk Bands, Rock Bands, Ska Bands, Soul Bands- it could do everything- thats what EQ and fingers are for. Mind you- I have now gone back to a Fender jazz! What does that say about me? I`m not really one to change my bass too often but playing my deluxe was just like going home. Bob

"Loud bass, when everything else isn't loud is bass overkill. Loud PA, when everything is balanced in the mix can be overkill for sure, but if the FOH mix is too loud, it can be lowered, retaining the balanced mix - having everything in the FOH mix facilitates greater control (typically by just one person, who usually knows what they're doing and usually has an idea of what a balanced FOH mix entails" !n my experience soundmen do not know what they are doing- only met a couple that did in 30yrs bob

Hi All I dont suppose there are any bass players who fancy a regular dep gig in the Hull area. The band I am in are www.soulpatrol.org.uk. We are a 7 piece band and are pretty good but the gigs are coming in thick and fast. I have a business and wife and family to keep happy so cant be playing really more than 4 per month. Looks like we will have more than 6-7 per month so could be lucrative for someone. Some quite well paying-£150 per night- some a little less -£40-50 per night. All local to Hull- couple of residencies in Hull and Beverley- all good gigs with good crowds. Nice people in the band-some good musicians. All standard Soul Songs- sam and dave, eddie floyd- Wilson Pickett- you know the score. The band are aged from 24-54. Really looking for someone who will listen to a couple of CDs and play- we dont like rehearsing but if someone would like to visit me I`ll show you the exact basslines or you can use your own! I dont have the dots but the stuff is pretty easy. Bob
