1. Probably the ones I still listen to most would be. Little Feat. Last record album Steve Gibbons caught in the act Who’s Next Ron wood. Now Look Lindisfarne. Fog on the Tyne. Doobies, Tolouse St. Feelgoods. Chess Masters & probably Malpractice. Freddie King Greatest Hits
 2.
Most of the thefts reported here are from vehicles before\after a gig, that's opportunist. Leave someone you know guarding the car\van, or lock it in between trips and that opportunity is lost.
You could get one of these; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqB6uM2hRpo
 3.
Make sure your bass has "Fender" on the headstock, otherwise it's not a proper bass and you can't call yourself a bassist
This. Thought it would be obvious even to the greenest beginner.
 4. Get a Westfield, relic it, put a gold Fender logo on it and leave it lying around as a decoy. and keep the good stuff out of easy reach.
 5. Check yer flies and have a look in a mirror before you go on.
 6.
No, this trick is for kidnappers who wish to prove that their hostage is (was..?) still alive at such-and-such a date, usually recent. Anyone can take a picture of an old newspaper, well after its publication date. It doesn't show ownership at the original date of the paper. Stems from watching too many Yankee films, I wouldn't wonder. Just sayin'; the rest is pukka stuff.
Yes, only you know about the newspaper. So if theres a dispute over ownership, and the other guy swears he owned it from new, or for years... Every little helps.
 7.
Yep. Any amount of marking, whether visible or invisible, is unlikely to deter an opportunist thief . . . especially if the bass is in a case and the thief doesn't even know what they are stealing. That why it's opportunistic - steal first, check what it is later. If it turns out that the bass is effectively unsaleable because of makings etc, the thieving scumbag can just chuck it in a skip (or worse) and move on to the next steal. No big deal for them, but lots of grief for the owner.
If your really paranoid about it, how about putting / hiding a cheap small pay as you go phone in the case with it ? £5 or so with a sim card from Morrisons, and sign up to one of those sites track your kids phone, Cheap tracking for anything up to a van load of gear, but dont forget to put the phone on silent, they send texts to tell you the phones being tracked.
 8.
I scratch my national insurance number under the scratch plate , neckplate or the bridge , that way if your bass ever gets stolen and turns up in crackconverters or somewhere else you can prove it to the rozzers that its yours .
This + photographs of the serial number if you dont have the original receipt, even a photo of yourself with the instrument, or the serial number and a newspaper front page to help prove the date. Just knowing the serial number, which is on the headstock for all to see wont really prove much. Altering the appearance in a noticeable way so it can always be spotted even at a distance is good. 5 years down the line you might spot someone playing it.
 9.
You learn most from someone who knows what they are talking about, even though you do not always agree with them. You learn least from someone who does not know what they are talking about, even when you always agree with them.
But you learn from your mistake when you realise they didnt know what they were talking about. And thats a lesson you take away with you isnt it ? So you do learn something from someone who doesnt know what theyre talking about, even if its just that they dont know what theyre talking about... Lets just hope you know what I'm talking about, cos I dont.
 10. If you get a sound check dont faff about. Try and look efficient when your setting up, get it right and get it done quickly.
 11. Some of us have it, and some of us dont.. Quite what 'It' I dont really know. But Bass players are a certain type of person, I reckon. Doubt if it has any bearing on what I just said, but an interesting read; http://www.nature.co...he-bass-1.15481
 12.
Ah yes, I remember it in the late 90's when I first moved up to Brum. Somewhat bittersweet memories due to personal connections and all that, but a great little venue and sadly missed. I remember it standing alone in an industrial wasteland when all the surrounding buildings had been knocked down.
I thought it was a Mexican restaurant by the late 90s. Was going strong in the very early 70s, probably the 60s but thats before my time. Must be some kind of record for a venue to be open for that long. Most of Brums big name bands/musos cut their teeth there,
 13. Curzon St, the road opposite where PMT is now.
 14. Anybody of a certain age from anywhere near Brum will remember this place. Thought I'd stick this on here for those who, like me, have fond memories of the place. https://www.facebook.com/groups/168743345728/
 15.
Having worked in sales environments in my earlier youth (as opposed to my current latter youth ) tyre kickers are part of the sales cycle, always have been and always will be.
I've made a living in the past from newspaper ads, and I do a fair bit on ebay now - not Bass related, so not on here - nutters definitely come and go in cycles. Theres a lot at the moment, probably no money about and people are paying for their hols or saving for when the kids are out of school later this month. Its vey quiet all round just now. You just cant predict when things will pick up, but they always do.
 16. Funny thing, dealing with the public. You are either selling a lot, and its all straightforward, or selling nothing and getting loads of nutters. I've noticed it for years but never been able to explain it.
 17. Trouble is theyre much better than people expect. I wouldnt have given mine a second look if they guy in the shop hadnt been playing it when I walked through the door, put it in my hand ( the bass that is) and said here, have a play with this.
 18.
Have a bump on me these are great basses for starting out on and sound massive on recordings. A steal...
Have another from me. Mines still my favourite go to Bass after 20 + years and half a dozen other Basses.
 19. Often wondered whether if you asked a load of Bass players ( the ones with a feel for it - but who can define that ?) and a load of Guitar players, what, before they coud play they noticed first about the music they liked. Would there be a difference ? I dont mean every tune, just the ones that stuck in the mind. Or maybe when they first became aware of Bass lines, was it at a younger age or anything like that?
 20. All part of why guiar players are different from Bass players. All guitarists think they can play bass, but few of em get the right feel. Never been able to put my finger on why.
 21. I do my own mainly, more by trial and error than knowing what I'm talkig about. But if it was me I'd try temporarily putting a little sliver of plastic sheet or something like that under the E string in the nut. If it helps...you got the answer.
 22.
Number 4 - http://pages.ebay.co...getstarted.html You have to have a telephone to sell on eBay, and need to confirm the number.
But a sim card only costs 99p. An email address is free... and all ebay do to confirm who you are is send a text message with a code for you to enter.
 23.
I am currently working on the answer to this one and am close making a breakthrough. I will let you know as soon as anything happens.
When you work it out, could you point the rest of us in the right direction ?
 24.
Yes, you will get your money back if you don't receive the item. You do need a bit of patience here though as assuming it was sent Royal Mail the seller can't even claim until 30 days so if he did send it and it is lost in the post it is hardly right to get angry with him about it. Okay he isn't responding but he has marked it dispatched so that is all he would say anyway isn't it? Agree with others up there. I have sold 100's of things on eBay and I am a very good seller but I have had more problems from buyers than from anyone I have bought from. The change I would make to eBay is that the payment gets automatically taken from the winning bidders Paypal account when the auction ends. A lot of people just don't bother paying but you still have to wait 7 days, cancel listing, realist and wait for auction to end again etc, etc,.
Only thing that can go wrong is if the parcel has been signed for. In which case ebay will back up the seller. I have sold two things where the buyer claimed not to have them, but ebay found for me both times. Must admit though, one was a mobile phone with the buyer in eastern europe, so Parr for the course really. Glad I sent that one requiring a signature even though it cost more - ebay put a ridiculous £7.00 postage cap on mobile phones - its very tempting to send things cheaper but its not that unusual for signed for mail to go astray and still get a signature.
 25.
I'm sure they do too but you have to request the sellers contact details via ebay.
When you get involved in a dispute ebay ask permission to share phone numbers. But if the seller didnt give it, or is not aware of the case...
