  1. hey guys,
a friend has offered to sell me a double bass for £250 in a soft case plus a pickup for £100. I havent seen it yet so will be having a look in the next few days. all I know about it is that its chinese. Are there any issues I should look out for, the fact that its chinese?I guess most low priced instruments made these days are chinese but it still makes me a little worried. Ive been reading some of the other threads here mentioning the sound post and checking to see if there are any splits but is there anything else that can be a concern?

  2. Im intrigued to know what they are like as well. Ive seen the baritone jaguars around which look quite similar but havent had a chance to play one.
saw one of these on ebay the other day. A tribute to Jack Bruce's VI

  3. Always been very happy with the female sound engineers...
One thing Ive noticed is that with every female engineer Ive encountered Ive never met one who seems jaded or really cynical about the whole live music thing... male ones on the other hand!

  4. here's an old pic of my fave guitar, must be about 6 years old now as I havent lived at home for nearly 5. its my ole US 62RI jazzmaster, a jap Jaguar (with weird modded electrics that was swapped for a tokai 335 copy) and my trusty old mex Jazz which is still my number 1 bass. eagle eyed peeps may also see an Ibanez overdrive 2 pedal from '72ish bought for a pound and also a '00' gauge trainboard that my dad has forever been sorting out.
  5. oh dear... if its true, tis a very sorry state of affairs-
apologies if its been posted before.

does make you think though, how many of our basses have been made using ethically sourced materials and is this ever a consideration when you buy a new bass?

  6. I almost bought one of the american traditional basses back in 2000. it was brand new in the shop, not sure how long it had been there. I was told by the shop owner it was essentially mexican parts put together in America. not sure how true this is though, bought a mim jazz instead which is still my number one

EDIT Oh yeah, it was the same price as mexican one back then. I think I paid 320 or 339?

    Anyone seen this?
looks beautiful- seems pretty cheap for what it is.

  8. I couldnt possibly comment on the Cardiff course but seeing as you are based in Wales, would you get cheaper entrance fees as a result of Welsh Assembly? (this may have changed now as Im out of the loop all things educational)
Saying that, I dont suppose its wise to choose a University on financial terms if the course/facilities aren't up to scratch.
I did see a performance by the graduating jazz students from the welsh college of music and drama few years back conducted and written by Keith Tippett which was fantastic

  9. Ive got a MIM jazz from 2000 as well. the only mods Ive done is stuck in some SD Basslines pups. Im happy with them but I'd love to try one with some wizards in it just to compare. Ive never had a problem with the bridge so I couldnt possibly comment on replacing it and Im really happy with the tuners.
