1. Im after a fretless bass and saw this on ebay...

it just doesnt look like any jazz Ive seen... modded and sanded quite a lot... apparently mahogany.
any thoughts guys?

2. IVe never played in a covers band so couldnt really comment on that but each to thier own.
anyone had a period where they've turned down cash for integrity?

I was in a position a few years ago when my old band had a development deal with a little company who paid for the re-recording of one of my songs.
We did it but we all agreed we preferred the original as it had more feel to it...
lo and behold a few weeks later we were offered cash to put that version on some advert in Eastern Europe... not great cash but enough to pay for a new van and some equipment.
we needed the cash but I just wasnt interested... I just hated the idea of the song being associated with some dodgy brand...
Call me stupid or whatever as its just a song but Im happy that I can look my heroes in the eye and say I held on to my integrity.
the furries influenced me hugely here:-

3.
Cliff, Pavement, Chrysanthemum, Ferry, Coriolis, Shellsuits, Pert, Viewfinder, Reptilian, Mimsy, Radiators, Cat-face ?
Pavement already taken... one of the greatest slacker bands of the 90's on domino records. and there was a brit band called radiator a few years ago?

4. Anyone interested in these?

Im based in Cardiff, not really interested in getting it parcelled up (especially the cab)...
EDIT:- the head can be sent relatively easily but havent a clue as to how I'd get the cab delivered

SWR 350 head, bought second hand two years ago and its done about 10 gigs. its been serviced since and always kept rackmounted...
this is the model that came just after the red one.

a little bit scruffy here and there but working nonetheless.

Triad cab- again this has been gigged a bit but has been well looked after by me...

pics and more info about them to come

EDIT not really sure on price but how about £475 for the pair?
EDIT reduced to £425

will consider split but ideally would like to sell as a pair

5. I started playing bass a little later than guitar but as a guitarist I always wanted a Jazzmaster.
I loved the offcut shape and still do:-
I bought an MIM Jazz bass which I still truly love (havent actually played a bass yet that can justify replacing it), then got round to buying a US Jazzmaster and then this refin Jag came along ( which I swapped for a Tokai ES335 thingy)
Heres a pic of em all

6. cheers for the replies guys... this forum is an invaluable resource for the likes of me.

Ive been looking at it today and something doesnt feel right about the finish, a possible refin methinks but not 100%
Im going to get it serviced as I dont feel comfortable setting it up myself and get an opinion on whether its a refin.

all the best

7. Hey people,
Ive had this bass about two years and its pretty much just sat in the case. Its an 80's cruise bass, original parts, pretty good condition, one or two dings, fixed neck with original case...

Anyone see these pop up for sale or have an idea what its worth as friend I loaned it to wants to buy it. As it was given to me I havent a clue!
all suggestions welcome

heres a pic

8. Im sure a lot of people have seen this article but its worth a read-
Steve Albini really hits home

http://www.negativland.com/albini.html

The part at the end especially re: money is a real eye opener

9. My first was a late 80s or early 90sBC Rich- sort of-
I borrowed it from a friend for about a year...
Dont really remember the model and I dont think it was American and wasnt the nicest player.
it Looked like Duffs from Guns and Roses in cream with I think three pick ups... I always remember a few old metallers kept on saying it should be black!

10. Hey guys, hello to you all.
Im Stu, 26 from South Wales.
I used to post a lot under the name stu-khagool on the old Bassworld site until I moved and had no internet connection and then the site disappeared! Ho hum.
Anywhoos, getting back into my bass playing as Im starting to record again with friends and eventually want to start gigging.
At this present time I still have my beloved Mex Fender Bass which has had the various upgrades along the way, A Hamer Jazz style Bass (P and J pickups, Sting had one which was pointed out to me on the ole bassworld site) and I currently have an SWR 350 head and Triad cab being used as a bedside table and a Big old Laney combo as well.

Peace out and here's to '08
