1. Hi JP and Welcome Where are you from in North Yorkshire? I'm a bit further sw near Shipley/Bradford. Timothy Taylor's is brewed just up the road to me in Keighley If I'm not mistaken? I'm in a trio too, playing "Heart Soul and Jazz." I've a Little Mark II, 2 LM cabs, a Variax 705 and a recently traded Ray Turner 5 String Electroline. However Gassing for another 5 String as you can tell from my posts elsewhere! Cheers Keith
2. This is what they currently have on German evilbay with a 5 String Jazz and Precision/Tele too... http://stores.ebay.de/bachguitars
3. Just doing a bit of research on German evilbay and wonder if anyone has any experience of these? Johnson do a number of Jazz and Precision copies starting at c £100 including 2 X 5 String Jazzes with block inlays http://stores.ebay.de/ML-Factory-Gitarrenshop I've seen Johnson on UK ebay but never 5 Stringers. I wonder if these could rival SX ( or are the same as) as shipped they are around the same price and no duty to pay?
4. That's just plain daft, why would you need 2 bass guitars in a metal band......?
5. Just seen this on German ebay...some interesting other basses from this seller too- check out the 6 string bass ! http://cgi.ebay.de/HK-AK-47-4-SAITER-BASS-...1QQcmdZViewItem
6. It could be worth looking at this thread from a couple of weeks ago... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11796
7. I've just spoken with Kurt... Good news and bad news I'm afraid, bass people. The bad news is that the 6 basses would have to be all the same type and style ( no mixing 4 and 5 strings or Jazz and PB's) although they could be different colours: he is not sure how he could post such a large parcel to UK: and there would be no quantity discount. So the good news is you can go and buy one yourself in the type, style and colour you wish!
8. Would there be a financial advantage in a group buy? They would have to be posted to one UK address and then sent out again to each buyer. So any discount in buying 6 would have to offset the additional cost of posting out in UK, unless of course the group buy was geographically close. I'm assuming they would mix a box of 6 or is it just 6 of the same type and colour? If there's anyone in Yorkshire/Lancs up for it: I'm in for a LPB JB 5 Stringer
9. If you enlarge the photo, you can count 9 Strings which would made this bass unique and well worth 850....not sure where you would source the strings from mind? PS a little hint Birdseye, if we check on your profile we can see you have already offered it twice before so it may be useful to revise your listing in light of all the comments. May be a clear photo of the receipt for 850 would convince one or two sceptics?
10. Just like to add to the previous feedback on Yessikris.... Did a great trade with Julian on basses and hope he is as happy with mine as I am with his! Really nice chap, good communication and he must travel the length and breadth of Wales to meet up with other bassists. He comes highly recommended! Keith
11. Hey Nik Checking in from Baildon too! Keith
12.
I love the look of some of the RKS basses as evidenced in this post. However would say that not all of them are so visually pleasing. There's a particularly ugly one on eBay right now. Last year though there was a gorgeous one in all matt black, which I was very tempted by. yorks5stringer, is yours the one that came up on eBay last year?
The one on ebay now is particularly fugly, I really like the way they have matched the rear control plate with the rest of the guitar-NOT! I wonder if it is a B grade as mine under the paint has the control plate made out of the same piece of wood as the body.
13. That's a real bargain, should get snapped up, mine cost nearly £70 from Italy and is the smaller one
14. Yes, the SB series under the Jim Deacon Brand look like the SX basses you can see on ebay but it was the 5 String Jazz type I was interested in.
15. Apologies if this has come up before but whilst lurking on a US Bass site I saw mention that SX Basses were available in Europe under a different brand name. Whilst I know UK Bassists are already doing personal imports, does anyone know what brand they use over here please?
16. At last someone else who has seen and heard of my Bass! I have the one as on the link enclosed below and would have to agree regarding the tone from a passive instrument. It is a neck through design and the wings are part of a separate body, which you can change for different colours or shape (but this is not cheap!). It has a lovely balance and sustain too due to the neck through design. The coolest visual thing however is the controls which you can only just see, 2 knurled knobs set under the bottom of the neck-though so you have a nice clean finish. They have really thought about the design and used good quality components e.g. hipshot tuners and the input jack has a set screw rather than a ring that can loosen off. Apparently they are an industrial design company in the US who came up with a new design stand and then decided to do guitar and basses as well. It was strung with red DR's in the photo (simply red?) but I have reverted to Elixirs as supplied when new. I appreciate that because it does not conform to the Fender shape it will upset some luddites http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11286
17.
Hi, A belated welcome from another Yorkshire based bass player lurking in Menston. This is a good site, very helpful people. Cheers, Rhino.
Hi Rhino Thanks for the belated welcome, no offence taken and in fact have just looked at your profile, those influences tick all my boxes too! Yes, it seems quite a helpful cheery site. I notice you have a Mark Bass 1x15, I have the Traveller versions in 2x10 and 1x15 but find the 2x10 easier to use. Cheers Keith
18. If you go on (Captain) Birdeye's profile there are pictures from the last time he put it up including those of the headstock. However, unfortunately these are blurred as well but I can report that with aid of an electron microscope there does not appear to be a logo present! The mystery deepens .......
19.
Don't suppose anyone knows the deal with buying off Ebay from Australia? Is it the same import/handling/VAT situation as USA? Need to know within 20 hours lol Cheers Si
Perhaps try the HMRC website mentioned in one of the earlier threads?
20. As many of our gigs are functions we tend to wear out ex-hire dinner suits but do splash out with spotted bow ties...! Photo to the left....
21. I know shops have to make margins but a bass hanging on the wall is not making them money, quite the reverse. So if you offer them a sensible figure you would think they were happy to turn it into cash in the till. I happen to know the one I was looking at has been in stock for at least 3 months. Worst thing is someone else will come along and buy it not noticing the scratches and pay full price.
22. I tried a 5 string version and found the neck too narrow for my fat fingers.....
23.
These guys are worth checking out as well. Great prices and free UK delivery on orders over E150. I have bought a bass from them and had no difficulties. They seem unbeatable for price on Mark Bass stuff as well. http://guitare.playback-europe.com/
Got to agree, Thomann are not the cheapest on everything now and I got my Mark Bass gear from Playback too
