Thomann p*ssed me around royally for a month regarding a bass I got from them that was "new" and had clearly been used, and was missing a number of bundled accessories. I documented every contact with them ( incuding their guitar expert -an englishman telling me it did not come with x cable when the manufacturers website said it did etc), wrote to Herr Thomann himself and got an extra 50 euro credit note. They even suggested I had damaged it deliberately just to get money knocked off: I nearly exploded at that one!

On the subject of Crack Convertors knowing the price of things...I pop into my local one 2 or 3 times a week, often on a Monday for obvious reasons. However, today noticed a pair of marked s/h Mackie C300 z PA speakers and enquired as to the price as they were unticketed. "£399 mate" was the answer, "Does that include the stands?", "No", was the reply. Just had a look on ebay, a pair of new ones, BIN £319!!!! Someone is having a laugh....

Pearl Wedding Dinner in the Restuarant at the Black Horse, Clifton near Brighouse. Played 2 X45 minute sets during the meal at low volume to the couple and their friends and offspring. Had 'My Girl' by the Temptations sprung on us on Wednesday so agreed on a key by email and soundchecked it before the gig: all went fine, paid well and our first tip ever from the hosts! Yes, they could have had piped music but we were happy seeing everyone as a family getting together and enjoying themselves. We chose lots of significant song titles which I guess they did not spot: Let's Stay Together, The first time ever, Crazy Love, Days, Lean on Me, Say What you Want, Cry me a River, Drift Away, Mercy, My Girl, Move on Up, and Perfect. After the list of songs they sent at short notice on Wednesday, our guitarist suggested we do "Last Request!"as well!

They used to send a return label as part of the documentation that arrives with the item: you just need to contact them to arrange for them to send the courier.

Asked nicely for our promised food early, they brought us 1 sandwich each (ie 2 slices of bread cut into 4) and a bowl of chips for us all. No plates, cutlery or serviettes which I know is very r&r but not when you are wearing a Dinner Suit. Had to scoff this in 10 minutes as the guests then arrived and we were due to play. Gig went well but only a few got up to dance: the first set was during them eating and then for the dancier set they seemed to prefer to sit and talk. Still we got paid and a fairly early night.

I have to say I'm not keen on "coffin cases": I mean what's that all about? Why rest your bass in a case that looks like a freakin coffin? Equally, what's with these gothic looking basses?

What exactly is wrong with the amp: are you sure it's not just a loose connection?

Went the Variax 5 string route ( see other thread!) which has quite a nice upright sound although noisegated! Moved that on when I got the Rick Turner Electroline 5 which sounds v acoustic due to piezo bridge and flatwounds but does need an amp.

I think they no longer make in Korea ( now Indonesia) but don't know if that coincided with the logo change. I'm sure if you visit Talkbass and go on the G&L Board and do a search you'll find the answer!
