1. Catalinbread Echorec!! do excuse me, damn sneezes
2. John Entwistle My all time favourite, been using RS swing bass strings for ever cos he used them (very very sad) Leon Wilkeson Norman Watt Roy Alan Lancaster Jim Lea
3.
Chas Chandler
Who also manage Jim Lea or Slade more precisely but another underrated player
4. Cheers for that, I used to be a cabinet maker in a former career so I'm not bad at spraying from a technique point of view but know nothing about paint compatibility as I always sprayed fresh. I'll do some test pieces first to make sure I can get a colour match as best I can before even taking the strings off my base. Fingers crossed it will turn out OK
5. I'd like to paint the headstock of my MIM Jazz to match the body which is candy apple red. I think the finish on the neck is polyurethane but I'm not sure and the aerosols for the C.A.R are nitro, are the two compatible? I really don't want to have to strip the neck and lose the serial number from the back of the headstock Many thanks for any advice. Apologies if this gets posted twice, I tried to post the question earlier but the post didn't appear
6. To me that's everything a bass should be, sorry I can't afford it but it nice to see
7. Sorry I meant over the logo Buffing that's the bit that everyone's going to notice, never mind the rest of the work
8. My first bass was a Satellite, bought it new in 76 for £30, two tone sunburst, sounded sh*te but I didn't know at the time but I learned to play on it. 77 I bough a new fender jazz for 10 times the price and couldn't believe the difference in quality and sound
9. Shame about the rub through, sure you'll get it sorted. The headstock is spot on, I love it. Will you spray a clear coat over it?
10.
What they fail to mention is that it might have been worth £20,000 if it had been restored properly
Is the way I see it too but each to their own, their guitar, their money and their loss. I think a new LP would have been just fine for that exercise.
11.
Yeah I'll be putting a fender decal on the headstock - exactly the same type that was on there originally
Can / are /how do you get the serial number back on?
12. Have you tried asking in your local music shop? They're usually in the know

Allo!

Not sure about the guy from Saxon but certainly Django had two badly damaged fingers that could only be used for fretting the high strings for a chord occasionally. Tony Iommi has the same sort of damage to me and look what he has done over the years so I have no excuse! The good thing is that I can still feel the old finger tip so with the thimble on it feels less odd that it sounds probably because the end of it is where I expect it to be if that makes any sense. It's good to have a bass again especially such a nice one and I'm having a great time messing about with it

Allo!

Thanks for the welcome guys, sorry about the tardy response, no excuses I'm just crap all round! Yeah, painfull it was, still is but the plastic thing works to an extent, a little bit bulky and no sense of what I'm touching but it coming along. I think I might try and make a hybrid version, much thinner plastic with a layer of silicone betwen it and the leather pad to see if I can get some sense of touch through it. Strange, after 30 years of not playing and being 100% convinced I'd forgotten I'm still as rubbish as I ever was

Allo!

Hello everyone, well everyone who reads this of course. Colin from north Wales here, I last played bass back in the late 70s, had a Fender Jazz and played in a few punk bands but please don't hold that against me. Well I'm always wittering how much I used to enjoy playing so the missus bought me a MiM Jazz for crimbo and a little Vox headphone amp. Furnished it with a set of Rotosound 66s and am having a good time learning again. Sounds all good, well yes but I have one problem, I cut the top off my 1st fretting finger to the base of the nail bed and severely damaged the tendons in my 2nd fretting finger about 10 years ago. The 2nd finger will be fine with time but the 1st is giving me some problems, it is sensetive as hell and too short. I bought some Polymorph (heat mouldable plastic) and made myself a custom thimble and stuck a bit of leather on it but it's nowhere near ideal, bulky and no sensitivity at all, like playing with a boxing glove on! Any ideas out there? Cheers all, and to all who do read this, happy new year!
