1. He was a machine of a rhythm guitarist, he could keep going flat out all night. I met him once by chance in the Isle of Man outside his house while we were walking, lovely bloke, had a good chat and laugh for about 10 minutes before we strolled on and left him alone. Yeah, sad, but Quo are the sort of band that will live on for a long time so he won't be forgotten and that's about the best memorial the man could have to me
2. T Birds of this era were very well made and sounded good, now that they have been discontinued again and at that price it can only appreciate in value, especially in that colour. Had I not recently bought another I'd be having this
3.
It's a ...uh hum... short one. Well, broken to be more precise . Very useful, though, now it's short enough not to break again - if I'm careful
There's a surprise! Still very impressive, I've been a cabinet maker for the last 33 years and I find a 2mm cutter a big worry
4. I guess it was a long shot but worth an ask
5. Hi all Has anyone had any experience with the Mojo pickups? I'm interested in the Thunderbird versions, they're quite inexpensive along side Lull or Thunderbucker ranch models, I'm wondering how they stack up if anyone knows Thanks
6. If I hadn't recently bought another Tbird I'd have this no bother
7. You'll regret selling this for the rest of your life, £75? Keep it mate, you'll be sorry one day. My first bass was a Satallite, total rubbish but I'd do anything to have that back
8.
here you go, 2 quid inc p&p. http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1
£2 each, how can that be? Well I orders 2 and I also ordered a Snark after a lot of reading. If I don't get on with any of those I'll try a TC Polytune-ClipMany thanks for you help all
9. Thanks for that, it looks a nice bit of kit but I agree it's not a great image. Has anyone any experience of the Snark tuners?
10.
Thanks, these look perfect! Thanks for the link, but I think I'd rather go elsewhere that can provide proper metallic inks, also the Rothko and Frost ones state they use much thinner paper than traditional waterslide paper which should make it easier to blend in!
They just made me some for my Fender Jazz, a superb job, the only downside is they they are incredibly thin, perfect for painting over but difficult to apply; I ordered 2 and screwed the first one even after a practice with the blank bit supplied
11. Hello I fancy a new tuner for home use, I have a Korg GA40 which works well enough but it seems to have got a little temperamental, sometimes it read the tone sometimes it doesn't. I quite like the idea of a clip on one, are they any good and if so what would you recommend? My basses are: Fender Jazz, Gibson T Bird and Epiphone T Bird Thanks
12. I fitted one about a month ago, huge improvement over the original bridge, much darker and solid sound, more input from the body of the guitar itself. I also added some quarter pounders a couple of weeks later for an even bigger sound
13. Well Rothko and Frost came up trumps, thanks for the suggestion. This is how it turned out, sorry about the pic
14. I use Sennheiser HD 201 at £25 ish, comfortable and the sound isn't too shabbyActually £17 ish not £25
15. The T-bird arrived today, after the reviews I'd read I was expecting it to be a fair thing but I'm surprised at the quality of it for less than £400, nicely finished all round and the set up is nearly spot on, just a little high in the action. The only criticism would be the finish feels a bit thick So in the next day or two I'll shove the Rotos on her and give it a spin for size. I quite like the feel of the strings that came on it, smooth feeling compared to the Rotos. I play with a plastic thimble on my index finger due to loosing the end of it some years ago, it has a tendency to drag on the strings sometimes so it's noticeably quieter when that happens with these which is nice
16. I like the sound of "MONSTER" that could be the sound I'm after. Ground wounds I've never heard, are they a halfway house between rounds and flats?
17. Thanks both of you for your help. I've compared the two strings on youtube but I don't have a clue yet what I'd like. The guitar is supposed to arrive tomorrow so I'll put the Rotosounds from my jazz that is having a headstock paint job on it and at least I'll have a bench mark to work from
18.
I thought the pickups were quite dark sounding so went for the brightest steels D'Addario make, FlexSteels in 45-105... and they sound absolutely perfect with this bass! I usually use nickels but thought I'd try something different and glad I did, a perfect match I reckon. Perfect tension for me, not too bright after all, solid low fundamental and plenty of angry piano growl if digging in and slamming the strings against the frets.
How bright are they compared to the Rotosounds do you know? I haven't played in a band or with other musicians for many years, it's just stress relief to me these days so basically I'm really out of the loop when it comes to gear
I would say DR Fatbeams would be right up your street.
Why's that then? Do they sound anything like their name? I have heard of them and seen them recommended either here or basstalkMaybe I should try and find a comparison video on youtube
19. Not bought a neck but the service is first class. Bought some paint from them last week, destatched by return but the courier didn't turn up with it and then were a real pain in the butt, wouldn't redeliver and wanted me to drive 60 miles to the nearest depot to pick it up, then when I tried to arrange that wouldn't let me....nightmare! So I emailed Kev at NWG and half an hour later I had an email back saying it would be out for delivery later that day, obviously cares about his customers
20. Been feeling a bit sorry for myself recently, so in a fit of selfishness yesterday I ordered a Epiphone Thunderbird Classic IV Pro after reading some favourable reviews. I used to have a 1980 Gibson but was forced to sell it some years ago and always regretted it, so for less than four hundred quid I though WTH! I've always used Rotosound 66s 45-105 and I suppose they would be my go to for this new bass but maybe after 40 years I might consider a change, any recommendations?
21. Here you go http://www.rothkoandfrost.com/
22. Thanks, I have sent them a question along with a link to a picture of what I'd like, hopefully they will be able to help
23. More help if I may please I painted the headstock, it turned out fine much better than I dared hope, I used the paints from Northwest Guitars and the colour match was near perfect although it didn't look like it for the first couple of red coats but as it built up it got there. Here's the carp bit, I bought a couple of decals off ebay and tried to stick them on but the gold is semi transparent and is near invisible. Does anyone know where I could get a Fender Jazz Bass decal that has a more solid gold lettering for the Fender bit?
24. Try T Cut first and see what happens, you can make a decision after that
