Ever get one of those days when you're blown away by your own playing? I've just sat down and started working out Solar Fire by Incognito - it's a jazz funk encyclopedia in one tune! Anyway, I can't believe I'm pulling off the lines! Have to milk these elusive veins of form for what they're worth!

It just seems nuts to only be able to play with the tone rolled all the way off. I don't much like slapping with the tone up a bit either - sounds too thin.

I was wondering whether anyone had an opinion on the what are the mellowest sounding jazz pickups. I've got some DiMarzio Ultra Jazzes in a project bass and I find them really harsh. Can anyone recommend a something a bit sweeter? I like the Jaco/Richard Bona/Etienne Mbappe sound. My favourite sounding bass has been the Lakland Darryl Jones that I'm selling but I'm not sure whether the pickups are available after market or whether they'll fit into a Jazz Bass body. Your input is appreciated guys.

I believe I'm the 3rd owner of this beautiful bass. Previously owned by P-T-P and Silverfoxnik. It pains me to get rid of this because I thought it was a bass for life. Love the sound and the look. The problem is, it's got 5 strings. I was faithful to this bass for 6 months and then played a 4 the other week (it's a jazz project that took me a year to finish). Almost immediately I felt more comfortable with the 4. I have to face facts, I'm simply a better player on a 4. Condition-wise, I'm hard pushed to find a mark on it. Awesome pickups. Superb build quality. Here's a pic: [attachment=10707:DJ5edit.jpg] I'm looking for £675. Pickup from Brighton would be preferred but might come to terms with posting it.
