Yeah that's what I'm uncertain about. Might be worth contacting them, could be that they've just bought old stock from Warwick?
-
I was thinking about selling mine until I saw this today. I shot Warwick an email and this is Thomann selling old stock as they no longer make the amps. So once it's gone it's gone I guess. Almost tempted to buy a cab !

Hi Daf, Well the strings never did arrive and when the shop that was fulfilling the order tried to send out a replacement set they were told by the distributor that the guy who made the strings was no longer making them, and they were looking for somebody else to make them. Don't know how much of that is true, but they refunded me straight away. Maybe you will have a better idea? I was going to just buy some spirocores but have been too busy to sort it out. If there is a way of purchasing a set of polychromes please let me know. Cheers Will

I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of a set of Polychromes to change the strings that came with my Strunal bass. I have no real experience of double bass strings other than putting on a set of spirocores in the last decade on a crappy school bass I was given... But I chose these as they sounded nice on Dafs SoundCloud clips and because the strings are made in Wales. I'm not into patriotism but it's not often you find something musical being crafted in South Wales! One thing I would add... Don't order from the innovation website if you want to get them in a hurry. They seem to use a third party system that has to locate the strings in a shop and then get them to ship them out. Been waiting since Thursday for them after being notified they had shipped. Hopefully they'll arrive eventually!!

Is it me or is dan/dood starting to look a lot like Bryan Beller?

Thanks again EBS_freak.... actually what is your name? I'm Will. haha. Really appreciate the advice, makes a lot of sense. I ordered some KZ monitors to get me through for the next few months hopefully at-least. I figured if I go for a decent set later, these will be a good back upset. That's if I ever get them, myhermes seem to have had an issue mid-delivery which has lead me to a morning of getting amazon to sort it out. Hopefully they will now arrive today. With the PA - I think it's a decent if quite old system ( must be getting close to be 15 years old possibly) can't recall the brand but it's two subs and two tops. The whole band goes through the PA, electric drum kit, 3 brass, 2-3 vocals, bass DI, mic'd guitar cab, sometimes a keyboard too. The desk is an Allen and Heath Zed 16? I think. As far as I can remember it has 3 aux outs (tried looking at the manual online last night but it wouldn't load). I don't think Jules has used her in ears for a while now, not sure why. I think possibly at the moment our drummer may have started using the feed from the desk for his monitoring so it's just me and him on aux 1 and 2 and I'm assuming the 3rd aux is going to the onstage monitors. So would the aux outs be in mono or stereo? I'm not sure if the feed coming from the roland kit would be stereo either as I think it's just coming in to the desk via one lead. I am just using the DI out on my hellborg pre at the moment - i have used preamp/cab sim pedals in the past but the sound of my hellborg pre is really nice for clean funk stuff, I did use my tech 21 dug for a bit which I loved but was a bit too much! I would love for everyone to be on in-ears, with no onstage sound, I would love to be able to send a ampeg type channel and hellborg channel to the desk to blend a bass tone - i suppose I could do that now, but the amount of gear/cables go on it's simpler that I dont. I have been thinking of getting a HPF to run in the effects loop of the hellborg to perhaps shape it - if i run the trickfish cab with the tweeter wide open it would maybe translate well out the cab and my in ears. Had a look at the mooer radar last night that could be a possibility. Yeah ultimately I think getting a better desk and getting other musicians in the band to go to IEM is outside of my control. Hopefully when the next gear upgrade is needed we can have a serious talk about making the switch over completely!

Hi EBS_freak. Thanks for your detailed reply back! I'm wondering if you are the same EBS lover that knows the singer in the function band I work with.. Julia Coles? The custom mould monitors I had were Minervas... which I know a lot of people have had issues with, they eventually crapped out anyway. Lets just say one company said they couldn't do my impressions because of wax build up and the other company didn't say anything about it... Anyway they were free and the band I was in didn't always use them live, I preferred not to use them back then and in a proper music venue, playing rock music probably still prefer to use floor monitors/side fills. I got back in to in-ears again mainly due to playing a lot of function/wedding gigs and just getting fed up with terrible rooms, awful onstage sound, close proximity to loud instruments such as brass etc! I don't want to go with moulds at this stage just because I was perfectly happy with the seal from the silicon (?) tips with the shures and also the expense is one I could do without right now. I didn't really get a break in the seal unless I laughed - which during a performance is rare - i hardly smile.. I am after all a bass player! I think I will go for the zs10s and experiment with some tips. I think if others in the band move to in-ears eventually and we get a desk that is capable of offering decent stereo mixes it may be worth going for the very cool 64 ears or JH audio products. If I don't have to have a high quality bass cab at a gig then I can invest that money in to some IEMS! I'm not going to do critical listening with any IEMs as I have nice studios monitoring headphones at home im very used to listening with. I think the signal of my bass coming off the desk is post-eq, so it's been eq'D for the PA and is far too bright for me in my ears - I need to research the desk and see if it's possible to get the send sent pre eq to the aux. Soundchecks are usually rushed and chaotic due to the nature of the events we play... i'd be interested to see if I can get a stereo mix from the desk to the presonus hp2 - although I feel it can't accommodate it for some reason!
-
Cool, yeah ive read about them on here but wasn't sure if I would be just putting off buying a more expensive set. However I am tempted to give them a try... I've seen a few mentions that the seal wasn't great and was the biggest issue... I'm guessing that would be solved with some comply tips? What tips do you use with yours? Where did you buy yours from, I've found them on Amazon for about £50 for the 5 driver versions.

Hi, I'm looking for new IEMs. I managed to step on my Shure 215s and knacker them at a gig over the weekend so think this is a good time to upgrade a bit. I have had in the past custom moulds IEM when I was touring a lot and found them uncomfortable and wasn't impressed with the seal. I think I have quite small ear canals.. I struggle to get foam earplugs in but found the rubber tips with the 215s fitted well and gave a really good seal. So I'm looking for universal fitting monitors with a max budget of £350. I've been doing a lot of reading and read a lot of mixed reviews of the UE 900s and the Fender Ax7? I have also been considering Westones UM30s and earsonics. I don't want to spend more as I am likely to break them at some point! There also seems to be a lot of contradicting advice on how many drivers are best etc I'm running wired to the desk via a presonus headphone mixer and splitting my Di out from my Hellborg pre to the desk and to the presonus so I can mix in my bass my self (I found getting the bass from the desk didn't work for what I like to hear) I found the 215 by Shure actually ok - I think maybe I found it quite hard to balance my bass with drums and with guitar, synth etc as well in the mix I found there was a lack of space and definition and it could get quite loud/fatiguing. Any advice on what I should really consider and really not consider would be much appreciated. I also found playing without them at function/weddibga type venues hellish so don't have the time to go with moulds at the moment. Thanks Will

Yeah, it is heavy but whilst I'm able to carry it around I might as well enjoy such high end gear and the tone quality is undeniable. So clear yet far, cuts tight through. I would like to compare it to the top of the range trickfish. Wonder if their top of the range power section sounds better than the .5k
-
Had this for a few weeks now after acquiring it in a trade, just been sorting a case for it! I thought my trickfish bullhead was the holy grail amp, then I played through this and was totally blown away! I've done very unscientific comparisons and the trickfish gets close but is just a little bit dryer in tone and less articulate compared to the warmth, girth and clarity of the Hellborg. I tried the bullhead into the power amp which did sound very nice and gigged the preamp into the bullhead last week. But its the combination of the pre and Poweramp that really is something special. Yes it's heavy, but not that heavy it's unmanageable I think probably 24kg without the case. Sounds great with the trickfish cab and it looks very cool. It's also has a nice tube like feel when playing through it, almost like a nice subtle compression. Now to decide if I should keep the trickfish bullhead .5k as it is a marvellous amp!

I feel this was all my fault. I run mine into the front end of my trickfish amp. Just letting the signal pass through the electronics in that amp warms it up nicely. Has anyone though of running this is s blend pedal mixing the dug amp sound with the clean uncompressed signal of your bass... More like how bass would be mixed on a studio console type of thing?
-
Contemplating getting a gss baby sumo Poweramp to use with the dug. It seems a waste to obliterate my trickfish with it... But I've always been a rocker at heart!
-
I got the dug pedal a few weeks ago. Took it on a private wedding gig the same night playing funk/modern r n b stuff... I hadn't really spent any time with it prior to this and it was a good learning curve, I was on in ears so that helped me dial it in throughout the gig. Nobody said anything about the completely different tone I usually have from my trickfish DI out despite starting off with way too much gain! What surprised me was how much low end this pedal has, it was huge! Also the compressor I found doesn't need too much to work and sound natural... This is probably bass dependent. I already use a muira comp in front of it which does hardly any compression just enhances the tone. Since the gig I've had an afternoon to further mess with settings and I've found a really nice ampeg svt tone that bites when you dig in or also with just a bit of break up. It is a bright pedal but you can dial it back using the high/treble control as if you were filtering it off in a mixing/studio environment. What I love about this pedal is that I can hear my basses through the pedal compare to previously sansamps. You can push the midrange back in to the tone if needed. Also with the bddi I found the presence control almost plastic and fake sounding and drive too wooly when pushed which is something I don't experience with the dug. It has a really nice clarity and the drive holds it self together instead of turning to fuzzy mush. Used to run a b3k into a bddi with very little drive on the DG just to sharped up the bddi. Closest thing I can relate it to is a loud ampeg svt vr with the hi and lo switches engaged in a conservative setting and then you can gradually push it into dug territory! Also the DI out just works and sounds good, no DSP etc which I have found weird in the past especially when your tone from your cab is drastically different to what is out front with how much drive/gain is audible. Anyway there's my thoughts / praise. Not 100 percent on tuner yet but a nice addition

I've moved to Dunlop super brights. Never been one for caring about the tension but I really like the way the super brights feel to play. Also seem to last a decent length of time. In the past I had a deal with Ernie Ball and Rotosound. Loved Ernie Ball steels, tho I was prob the only person to ever buy them. Rotosound were awful, dead within a couple of gigs. Actually I stuck some on for a shoe recently as they were cheap and they practically dead after soundcheck!

Just to chime in on the volume of the trickfish .5k head. I have and use one. It's loud at 8ohms through the 210v cab. Cuts through two Marshall valve heads and 4x10 stacks and a hard hitting drummer. Actually it really compliments the sound providing an awesome low end for the guitars (80hz switch is amazing, it almost feels like there is s sub tone running underneath the main tone) At 4ohms with an 8x10 the amp is a monster. Never had to push it!

Hi Jack, I ended up with the Darkglass Ultra Alpha Omega. Really cool, versatile pedal.

Hi, I have used the Big trees a few times. My brother in law is a producer and I've borrowed his a few times. It's very cool, tho I feel the amp/drive is more suited to guitar than bass. For me, it wasn't the kind of break up/drive I was looking for live tho I imagine it would sound killer as a blend in the studio. That being said the clean side (the small trees) does wonderful things to the sound of your bass. It seems more upfront, richer and has a sparkle. I have used Reddis and tubeworks DIs in the past and this totally kills them! I'm actually saving up for one to put in my signal chain. Drop Steve a message at Audio Kitchen, he's a really good guy, informative and patient!

Hi, I have the 600WTP (actually it's for sale since falling in love with Trickfish). Here are my experiences with it. I ran the head through at 4ohms 410XLT. The rig was loud enough for me. The fan kicks in when the head gets warm but never noticed it working overtime. The eq and enhance can create a huge amount of low end if boosted to much, which if you are isn't going to help you get volume out of the rig. As far as I'm aware the amp only outs out 600w at 4ohms. This is usually halved at 8ohms. How are you connecting the cabs? Are you clipping the power amp? What are your input gain and master volume settings?

Yes, definitely loving this. Spoke to Richard Ruse about a pedal like this after I got my Trickfish rig. Sadly Richard passed away recently but hopefully Trickfish will continue to grow and do the guy proud. Will probably cave and get one when they're available, especially with all those routing options!

I also have an Alpher bass elite passive 5 string in the works. Crotched English Walnut top on a swamp ash body, roasted/flamed neck with rocklite fingerboard and nordstrand big split and big man pickups with him some crazy pickup switching options! The wait is a killer tho, I just want it now!! haha
