1. If you've not already come across it, & like the laminate took, you may get some inspiration from this firebird build vid on youtube. Custom Firebird Guitar Build Luthier Building pro…: http://youtu.be/jAHQA_-27Sc
2. Hi, I have an Epi Pro iv in natural oil finish. Measurements are: Wings: 1.355" / 34 42mm Centre: 1.63" / 41.41mm. Hope that helps. Would love to see a build diary!
3. Charlie Chandlers Guitar Experience in Hampton Wick. Had Charlie do a couple of Plec set ups on my guitars, and replace nut on an acoustic. Would highly recommend. Open late Thursday evenings I believe. Www.guitarexperience.co.uk
4. I'm intending to bring 'Clarence' my Squire CV 50s P, Epi Thunderbird Pro iv (if I can track down a case big enough!) & my Fender Bassman TV10. I'd love to try out a Dano Longhorn if anyone coming has one!
5. Okay, you've talked me into it! Either date is fine with me too.
6. Oooh! Err, if it's not a silly question, what happens at a bass bash?? Sounds interesting. Perhaps more importantly does it matter if I'm a crap player? I wouldn't have to play in front of people would I?
7. A 'Thud!' That over time, inevitably becomes a 'Plonk.'
8. I owned a 1964 AC30T (treble version) for about 20 years and the tone was superb but just too bloody loud for home use. I then tried out an AC15 with Warfdales which was atrocious, and a complete insult to the Vox hetitage by comparison - sorry Wil. Ended up with a Marshall Haze which was a BIG mistake. Now happy to report that I'm a very proud owner of a AC15 CC1X bought off ebay for sub £300 and tone is fabulous. I often have to try out greenbacks whilst testing gear in shops, and there is definately a 'who pulled the curtain across in front of the speaker' effect to my ears. (I know there's a big difference between the 30s & 15s but I don't & never will gig so the 15s the best for me.) Why the hell they don't put blues in the handwired blonde jobs, I will never know. If I were you I wouldn't waste my time with those green jobs longterm, it's pleasant enough but not THE Vox sound at all. Get some blues from Watford Valves or somewhere and upgrade if necessary, you won't be dissapointed. Hope that helps. Sorry, enough talk of all this 6 string stuff, the Bassman's warmed up - time to plug in the T-bird!
9. Not sure if this would count as either wierd or wonderful, but I'm toying with the idea of a p bass build with a jazz neck and I found this on ebay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=121315030757 Does anybody have any experience of these necks / sellers. Seems a bit cheap to me, but at the same time tempting! (Sorry if I've put this on the wrong forum, what with build diaries, repairs & technical, & ebay to choose from. Mods, please feel free to shift this to another forum if necessary / possible. )
10. Thanks for all your advice. I have been very busy checking out youtube & googling away. Special thanks to KiOgon who very sensibly suggested upgrading the electrics first to get the most out of the OE pickup before writing it off. I've decided to take this advice and do a staged upgrade process to see how each component effects things. Planning on the changing the wiring to push back waxed cotton first, then upgrading the cap to a USA Sprague Vitamin Q, then the jack, & then the pots to CTS, before doing the pup. I'm leaning towards the Lindy Fralin 51, which ain't cheap so I'm going to tinker with other bits first & establish that the Fralin is absolutely necessary before shelling out. The other pup that impressed me was made by David Allen. Anybody have any experience of his pups?
11. Any ideas for upgrades for Clarence, my Squier'50s CV P bass? So not the split pickup, which seems to be rather drastically reducing my options along with the closure of Wizard, which I'm sure I saw recommended on here somewhere.

13. Jensen P12n Speaker For sale is a mint condition Jensen P12n 8Ohm 50w rated speaker which was used to upgrade my Fender Blues Deluxe for a short time before I decided to sell the amp and refit the standard original speaker. I only decided to sell the amp because I had the opportunity to buy a rare Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb reissue with a mahogany and cane case and Celestion Blue, and the Blues deluxe is just not getting used now so it needs a new home, as does the speaker. The Jensen has only been used for approximately 12 months. This speaker retails for £142 new. Please check out my other listings. For full specification and sound samples check out this link to Jensen http://www.jensentone.com/speaker/p12n I have tried and failed to upload picture, but have several to send via email if you contact me.
14. Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue Guitar Amplifier. Up for sale is my mint condition Fender Blues Deluxe guitar amp. I bought it in May 2011 so it is still covered by Fender’s 5 year transferrable warranty. It has only ever been used in the house, never gigged and it comes with the original footswitch still in its shrink wrapped cellophane. There is absolutely no wear or tear to the beautiful tweed covering, and all of the white lettering is still as new on the chrome control plate. Instruction book and bumper sticker are also included, and if absolutely necessary the amp can be shipped as I still have the original box. However, this will not be cheap as it weights 25kgs packed up. It would be sent via Parcelforce Express 48, tracked and insured and would cost £57.10 to post to mainland UK only. I will not send overseas. The amp also has the optional extra amp cover, which is in unmarked mint condition. This amp has always been perfectly behaved and thoroughly reliable, and it is only for sale as I have been fortunate enough to buy a limited edition Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue mahogany and cane amp, which at 22 watts is better suited to bedroom use than the 40 watts Blues Deluxe, but when I bought the Blues, the tone was definitely worth it! These amps now RRP for just short of £900, and seem to be selling for £693 new, so take this opportunity to snap up a real bargain, or make me an offer I can’t refuse! Collection would be from Fernhurst on the Surrey / Hampshire / West Sussex border. Sorry there are no photos, have tried and failed to upload 3 times, but I can email them to you, or check out my listing on t'bay! Fender spec:- The reissue Blues Deluxe™ is a vintage-style tube amp with boutique tone at a great price that many pro rock, country and blues players have used to superb effect. While its newer cousin, the Hot Rod Deluxe™, has many modern refinements, more and more enthusiasts continue to request the warm tone, unique circuitry, classic features and sharp look of the original version. It pumps 40 watts into a single 12” Special Design Eminence® speaker fueled by two 6L6 Groove Tubes® output tubes and three 12AX7 preamp tubes. Its two channels (normal with bright switch, and drive) are voiced for classic blues, country and rock; other features include Fender® spring reverb, effects loop, two-button channel footswitch, tweed covering, chicken head knobs and chrome control panel. 15. . . . . . . and in the very end, I decided to 'just listen to' a Fender Bassman TV Ten. The next day I returned the Ashdown to Andertons and went straight back to Guitar Village with 2 guitars to trade in for the Bassman! So I have my Clarence and my valve amp, and they sound and look fabulous together, and my stupid grin has got even bigger! Don't get me wrong the Ashdown was very nice, and by comparison the Fender is very much more of a 'one trick pony', but it gives me exactly the tone I wanted and doesn't have too many knobs to confuse me! Pound for pound, I know it's not great value compared to a 'proper' 4x10 reissue Bassman that you could probably pick up for around £800 second hand, but while that does indeed sound glorious, it would blow the cats, and probably windows out of the bedroom where is is going to get used, and so my baby Bassman is far better for me! The TV Ten is also more than capable of playing along with my main guitar amp, which is now a Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue, producing 22watts of Celestion blue loveliness via a mahogany cab with cane grille. (The Blues Deluxe is now for sale - see ad in the appropriate gear forum to follow.) So, like I said, I have fussy - and evidently expensive - ears, I was very supised to find myself spending almost twice as much on the amp as on the guitar, and I'm not sure how much of that is down to Clarence being extremely good value for money, and the Bassman having an expensive nametag, but once I knew the combination was right just had to go for it.
16. And in the end . . . . . . 'Clarence' finally arrived on Christmas eve, and he was accompanied by . . . . . . . . . . . . . an Ashdown EB220 1x15. I now have a very stupid grin on my face an an immense amount of satisfaction by learning to play (I use the term VERY loosely!) Come Together, the Get Carter theme, and Walking on the moon in just one afternoon! Now off to re-learn Day Tripper and all the other bits of The Chain I never realised were there! My ventures to the low end continue.
17. I'm sure the LB30 would be just the ticket, but by the time I've also got a cab I'm looking at in excess of £400 S/H, rather too much - I need to find out if I can play first! That's why I think that at £230 the Excelsior might be worth a shot. Obviously the only eq control will be the different inputs which is rather primitive / crude, but also simple - if I'm learning bass I want to spend more time fiddling with the guitar than the amp. Perhaps one or two of the inputs might be usable for bass? Also if I decide I'm not going to be a bass player after all I wouldn't end up lumbered with an amp to shift. I'm going to be going for an old school sound with a Squier CV 50s P, so maybe all the retro vibes will synergise into a simple but effective, smooth, round plonk of tubey loveliness?
18. The better you sound the more you'll practice. It's a very good price and you've answered your own question by using phrases like - 'my dream semi acoustic', ' frankly it was awsome'. If you can, go for it. In the unlikely event that it's really not for you you'll easily be able to get your money back and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you've given it your best shot with a quality guitar.
19. Okay, I know I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but that's what I'm tring to find out. Fender have just launched an all valve 14w, 15" combo with 'instrument', 'mic', and 'accordian' inputs, for just shy of £230. As a valve tone obsessed guitarist who wants to start dabbling in bass playing at home only I'm getting rather excited. Do you think the 'instrument' input could include 'bass guitar' or would I break it with a passive P? http://www.andertons.co.uk/combo-amps/pid22841/cid691/fender-pawnshop-excelsior-12w-1x15-combo.asp
20. Oh, and did I forget to mention it's only just shy of £230? http://www.andertons.co.uk/combo-amps/pid22841/cid691/fender-pawnshop-excelsior-12w-1x15-combo.asp
21. That's what I'm trying to establish, can/should it be used for bass. The 15" and multi application (in terms of inputs) seems to imply it might. Oh did I mention it also has built in tremolo? I know we're talking home use only here given the 14w, but that's all I'm looking for right now, just with valve tone. Someone at NAMM read this and go and find out for me! Ta http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xb18o1FcsI&feature=player_embedded
22. Anyone else think that the Fender Excelsior amp, just launched at NAMM, might be just the ticket? (Going back to the thread meaning small, not AC30 small) 14w and 15" with multi-imputs for 'instrument', 'mic' and 'accordian'? Youtube have a couple of demos up already. As a guitarist who wants to learn bass I'm getting rather hot under the collar about the potential of this amp to get that oldschool P sound. What do you think, am I dreaming and just having another GAS attack?
