(Joan Baez) Judas Priest - Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown) (Fleetwood Mac) UFO - Alone Agian or....(Love) Paul Gilbert 2 Become 1 (Spice Girls)
2. I bought a Korean bolt on Epi back in '98, sold it around two years ago. I've owned an Epi Classic Pro IV for around a year and a half, and I can honestly say there is no comparison. The Classic Pro IV totally takes a poo poo all over the old bolt on, Eg. infinitely better pups, slimmer and faster neck with 0 dive, more sustain than a sustaining thing in a big sustainer, (shed loads more if you stick a Hipshot Supertone Bridge on too) plus it feels more like the Gibson than the bolt on ever did.
3. Great basses mate, not sure about the string through body "modification" though, it certainly don't look professional to me. Check out the same mod on his White one.
4.
I've listen to live versions of Quo songs, Edwards v Lancaster, and there's just seems to be something missing when Edwards is on bass.
I agree totally, the missing ingredient is called ....balls!
5.
The current crop of Gibson Thunderbirds are not the same as the 60s originals in either sound or construction.
I totally agree with you on the '60's models matey, but there's no real need to add MODERN when you think about it, seeing as the current model of Thunderbirds were re-issued in 1987, making the first ones nigh on vintage themselves.
6. I have an Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro IV and it's a great bass. I can't fault the build, playability or sound it produces, there's no neck dive either, it's as close as you'll get to a Gibson without spending the extra £100's.
7. Click more reply options , then you should see attach file
8.
I'm not sure re the aesthetics...it's not quite a T'bird in the same way that a Jackson Rhoads isn't quite a flying vee! That said, I have no doubt they're a fine instrument in their own right.
+1 IMHO a Thunderbird looks wrong without the traditional headstock shape!
9. The way he is isn't surprising! Years back he was asked about his then non-existent Geordie accent, his reply was, "Why the hell would I want to keep that accent?" Roll on to 2013 everyone has forgotten about him, so wot does he do? He releases an album of songs (sang with a Geordie accent) of his so-called nostalgic fond memories about life in Wallsend and growing up around shipbuilding. No doubt he'll be trotting out the Why aye's, the are ye alreet pets, and the how ye dee'in bonny lads etc etc ten to the dozen now.
10. Back in the day I had the The Hondo II Precision copy it was an early one with Black on Black and the Maple fingerboard and Fender style headstock, and truss rod at the heel of the neck, it was a good well built bass, which played fine, only problem I found was the pups were quite weak.
11. Inspirational to say the least. http://xpock.com.br/um-musico-sem-maos-motivador/
12.
I don't think people are getting this at all. You can't have 86 greatest heavy rock albums each. You can only have one. My thread, my rules Sort yourselves out now!
In that case. UFO - Strangers In The Night.
13. Every album Rory Gallagher recorded. Be Bop Deluxe everything up until but not including Drastic Plastic. Judas Priest's Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin After Sin, Stained Class and Killing Machine. AC/DC's Powerage, such a brilliant album, not a bad track on it! UFO's Force It, probably my favourite of their Schenker era studio albums. Rush, Everything up to and including Signals. Genius Zepp's The Song Remains The Same brilliant! Highlights for me are The Title track, Rain Song and the fantastic No Quarter. Gillan's Mr. Universe and Glory Road albums deserve a shout too! Driving, head down no nonsense stuff! Thin Lizzy's albums with Robbo, Nightlife, Fighting, Jailbreak etc brilliant All the mentions of Live and Dangerous, yeah it's great to listen too, but the fact that only the drums are the only things that are actually live is disappointing to say the least. One thing that this thread does, is it makes you realise just how heavy rock went down the pan in the mid '80's!
14.
Strangers in the Night - UFO. Nuff said!
Yes! and never bettered IMO
15. No idea about the SG or Firebird, but I'm guessing the Firebird being the guitar version will more than likely have the same weakness.
16.
Found some UFO, T-Rex, Saxon and 10cc today, all good bands I remember from growing up, just haven't listened to this sort of stuff for about a decade now, shame really, but I suppose when you're 10 it's not good to like your Dad's music, especially when all my mates were in to the modern rock/POP-Punk stuff, like Blink 182 and Foo Fighters.
You should never be embarrassed if you're caught listening to old school rock by mates who are into the likes of Blink 182.
17.
The best upgrade you can get for a tbird is a hipshot supertone bridge. FAR superior in every way over the 3 point bridges
That man is absolutely right! The most notorious weakness is the neck just behind the nut, a bad knock to the headstock can result in it snapping clean off. Having said that, if you're careful in your cavorting about, or are not the type of bloke to partake in such actions, I'm sure everything will be fine.
18.
If you're after a T-Bird, I'd check out the Epi Classic Pro IV - neck through and Gibson pickups, almost as good as the Gibson but far cheaper!
This! I'd just like to add that the newer Thunderbirds whether they be Gibson Or The Epiphone Classic have no neck dive!
19. Saw Blizzard of Ozz at Middlesbrough Town Hall back in 1980, Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake were the rhythm section though, fantastic gig! \m/ \m/ http://youtu.be/CfkATcv-dVY
20. No idea if it is or isn't mate, just passing on the message, that's all.
21. have dealings with Wall to Wall Promotions, especially Lydia Cole? If so, a word of warning, she put on a gig at Cafe 1001 in Brick Lane last week for a couple of young bands and did a runner instead of paying them. I know this kinda thing isn't a rare happening, but I thought it would be worth posting anyway.
22. Phenomenal musicians, though I find LaBrie's voice unbearable when he starts wailing. Metropolis Pt2. Scenes from a Memory and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence are their pinnacles for me, not keen on anything that they've produced since then.
23.
No controversy - just there's only one bloke, Chris Squier, who ever got a decent sound out of one
I'm guessing you've not heard Paul Gray then John?
24.
I thought that, but there's two pretty much identical threads going at the moment...
Found tuther thread in Gear Porn why my comment isn't logged in my content I don't know, but it ain't. Anyway apologies for jumping the gun.
