Fretless 50s P Bass / Telecaster Bass neck 34" Maple Bought used for a project, but won't be needing it now as bought a new bass. -Interesting inlays, I think these necks are from ebay originally. -42mm nut , please see photos for other dimensions. -18mm tuning holes, has multiple tuner screw holes on rear (would be covered up by a larger body tuner). -Rear of neck has been sanded back for a used finish. -Couple of dings and scrapes ( one by G string tuner on headstock face) but not too bad condition overall see pics -Looks like maple on maple, probably 34" scale. Has some Fe**r decals, but this is NOT a Fe**r neck Thanks Neil

P bass neck with tuners and string tree and original nut Was a paddle neck bought from Gear 4 music (see photos) initially fitted to a project bass which never progressed. I shaped the headstock into a Fendery shape (tricky as they don’t really leave enough material on the paddle headstock) , its OK and passable. It has had several coats of tru oil all over and so is not lacquered in any way, once dried it was sanded with 3000grit, so back of neck is very smooth. Fitted with some used GB500 tuners originally bought from NorthWest Guitars (one rattled, so I superglued the paddle part and it seems solid) Neck is unused condition, you may want to clean the frets if it bother you as I tru oiled everything (including the fret board) £50 + postage

Routing out for Thunderbird pickups - help needed !
orangepeelneil replied to orangepeelneil's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hi everyone, Sorry got totally distracted with work stuff and this has gone in the gigbag (for now) . I'll reach out to one of you in the next few weeks once I get some time. I'm South West based but could post the body and pickups anywhere and pay for the work. Incidentally I've also put the original HB neck up for sale as below. I thought I could try to live with the Jazz bass 38mm nut neck, but on reflection and playing it ( +getting these pickups fitted) I've gone and sourced a maple p bass (43mm nut) neck which should fit the neck pocket OK. Thanks Neil -
Harley Benton VT series Jazz bass neck - Brand new Brand new, never used from a Harley Benton JB-75 Vintage series sunburst bass. The 38mm nut is too narrow for my sausage fingers so I’ve sourced a P bass neck to fit. Comes with tuners, nut etc. Frets: 20 Medium 2.9 mm nickel silver frets Nut: White graphite nut Trussrod: Double action truss rod Neck: Canadian Hard Rock Maple Fingerboard: Laurel Fingerboard inlays: white ABS blocks Neck profile: D Neck binding: white Nut width: 38 mm Sizing is similar to a Fender neck pocket, please see photos and dimension of the neck heal and HB body The neck is 63.6mm wide at the heal, and tapers slightly to 60.5mm wide over the length of heal Thanks Neil

Hi everyone, Can anyone please help routing out this jazz bass body for these thunderbird pickups, I don't own a router and wouldn't trust myself doing this as a first job... 😞 I has the same idea as @Berserker PJBird build and was really impressed with his build and the sounds of these pickups. This is a Harley Benton JB75 Ash body, looks like the thunderbird pickups should fit OK and I also have the pickup surrounds. Ultimately I will also fit a P bass neck as this Jazz one is a but narrow for me. Many thanks in advance, Neil

Peavey TKO 115 Amp only Came from a TK0 115 combo , 80W or 100W I think. I’ve scrapped the cab as it was very heavy and poor condition Amp works OK, it’s used condition and could do with pots and jack socket cleaning (especially hi gain input jack) . Some metal bits are rusty and I slider knob is missing. I’ve always rated these amps, the particle board cabs IMHO let them down due to weight. Would make a decent project amp (fit in a lightweight combo cab etc) or make a sleeve or aluminium base and sides . Blue and yellow wire is speaker output. Quite lightweight and well made, £25 delivered

Might be useful for someone. Working condition, some pots may be a bit scratchy. Was used in the rehearsal room for years to mix vocals when using a rack power amp. Come with PSU. £7 should cover P&P https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wharfedale-EZ-M-Mini-Mixer-16x2/dp/B00F1B7LGE/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 Thanks Neil

I often see the Ashdown VS212 cheap in the region of £100-£200 - however never tried one, would be interested if someone on here has? Specifications · Power Handling: 300 watts · Speaker Configuration: 2 x 12" · H x W x D (mm): 710 x 490 x 340 · Weight (kg): 31 This one for example is an 8 Ohm 300W, for £120, not sure if they did a 4 Ohm version though and higher power than 300W? Thanks Neil

This came off a brand new Harley Benton JB-75 Vintage Series bass. I already had a Hi Mass bridge to fit, so this is surplus. Sung Il WB401CR with brass saddles Seems like Fender string spacing (19mm) and 5 of the rear holes line up 17mm with typical Fender spacing, has an extra two holes at the front. Screws included. £10 delivered.

Brand new pickups , pots/Jack socket from a new Thomann Harley Benton JB-75 Vintage Series bass. Bridge pickup is OK (7.88K) however neck pickup is open circuit, it never works on receiving the bass. Thomann are giving me some kind of refund on this, so I’ll fit some other pickups/pots etc. Roswell JBA-B Alnico 5 Single Coil (bridge) Roswell JBA-N Alnico 5 Single Coil (neck) The neck pickup may be fixable, I can see at least one end of winding, however this has been poorly soldered /burnt and wires over twisted, i.e pretty poor QC - this should have never left the factory like this. £15 posted.

Hi, Plenty of options if you are fixed on a 4 Ohm 2x12” cab, please let us know: - 1) Budget 2) Weight expectations 3) Used or just New? 4) The MB blackline 250 is only around 275mm (11inches) wide. Do you use it on its own? or in a 19” rack case or other wide enclosure? only asking as it may overhang some narrow cabs making it aesthetically undesirable 😊 Thanks Neil

Japanese PB-62 Fender - advice/opinions!
orangepeelneil replied to Pearson182's topic in Bass Guitars
+ You can massively improve the appearance of transitions between the gloss lacquered areas and satin Tru oil area of the neck by wrapping some masking tape squarely and evenly around the neck and very carefully remove the laquer up to the line, I did with a very sharp craft knife and various grades of sandpaper. Again it’s fairly easy… and satifies my OCD. You can get a finish like a MM bass as below. -

Hi, As @PaulThePlug commented, I would Tru oil the back of the neck to seal it and then maybe apply some wax (similar finish to Musicman basses) Very easy to do, I've done this to most of my basses now as I cannot cope with with heavy lacquered sticky necks. True oil (around £10 for a small pot) is very easy to apply with a cloth. Leave to dry after each coat and apply a few, then lightly sand or wire wool and apply wax. Try on a scrap of wood first, if you want to see the result. Thanks Neil -
EKHO Sound RX600 , apparently 2x300W, however not sure what units of power this is measured in 😕 Cheap and cheerful Chinese made power amp, MOSFET amp not class D Enclosure is not the most robust (seems a bit flimsy) , however electronics seem OK. Good working order, overall condition is OK (see pics) rear fan is a bit noisy and the case is missing a few screws. I gave it a really good clean and it is now looking OK internally and externally. Supplied with a mains lead. 2U rack mount 2 channel power amplifier. 2x 300 Watts, fan assisted cooling. 4 - 16 Ohms, PA, Disco, BASS power! etc £40 + postage.

Hi, Fuzziness or buzzing? Buzzing would most likely be a grounding issue, could be worth checking the grounding if you are getting buzzing, including wire to bridge if that is fitted. As per the instructions at the bottom DO NOT reconnect the bridge ground wire, as EMG Active Pickups do not require string grounding Thanks Neil

Hi, Yes, I've seen this linking of the green terminals (as you've done) in EMG instructions before (i.e in the absence of a selector switch) as below. Is your the B245? From the instructions : The B245 EMG Pickup Buss is used on two pickup guitars that have a selection switch., so probably linking BR and NK to Output on the green connector causes what you experiencing as they are always connected together. The switch block is just a simple connector PCB to make "solderless "connecting easier.. Out of interest, how is the rest of the bus switch wired? is it correct as per the EMG schematic, I recall having an issue with GNDs on an EMG active set, worth confirming that too. Thanks Neil b245rb_instructions_0230-0290rb (1).pdf

Hi, Looking at the EMG schematic and instructions you would need the toggle switch to select /solo pickups using the green connector. It looks like your wire links on the green connector is linking both bridge (BR) and neck (NK) to output (O) permanently (in parallel) , i.e this would be mid position of 3 way toggle. Have you got a 3 way suitable toggle switch you can install to confirm this? looking at the instructions, VVTT should be achievable (diagram #7/8 ) with this setup too (with a 3 way switch) and the 2nd tone pot connected Thanks Neil h__instructions_0230-0106rg.pdf

Hi, Can you described the symptoms of what the amp is doing? When you say "dead" I guess you are describing no audio output but the amp is still on etc and not blowing mains fuses? I've had a few Fender Silverface amps over the years, including a 70s Bassman 100 and 135, loved both those amps once they were working OK (when using a decent cab) My 100/135 both suffered from noise due to component drift/out of spec (all the electrolytic filter capacitors in the “dog house”) and some capacitors on the board needed replacing plus some resistors were overheated/ cracked and needed replacing, all fairly standard service stuff for an ageing valve amp, a decent tech would be able run the amp for a bit underload and measure and replace these components, plus test the valves, bias etc. Do you have any history on when the amps have been looked at last or serviced? My 70s Fender amps were wired pretty poorly internally, not the tidiest at all so that needed addressing too during servicing, I think this is fairly common. I’ve also read and seen lots about the main fibreboard ((tagboard) can become conductive and can be an issue and may need attention, again my tech did some cleaning of this. Neil

Yes, very cool guy and player. I saw him using a Bergantino forte hp amp and Barefaced super twin previously.... the rig sounded awesome with his signature basses Neil http://www.hootpage.com/hoot_gallery-thudstaffs.html

Questions regarding passive MM setup and wiring.
orangepeelneil replied to Jackopie1's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hi, I'd recommend Volume Volume master Tone, like my old OLP MM passive bass was like So a single volume for each of the front and rear coils of the humbucker , with both Volumes on full it's in humbucking mode, and overall master tone Your photos have capacitors on two of the potentiometers, so some kind of tone /bleed control. Your pickup with have four wires and and a ground (typical colours below) so could be wired in series or parallel mode (or both through a selector switch) Neil
