Yes the FaceBook one. So someone posted about Rickenbacker basses and what people didn't like about them. Got Deleted. People asked what the problem was. I couldn't see a problem discussing it. Just like I wouldn't care if people discussed what they didn't like about any other bass. I posted and asked what the problem was. Was deleted from the group. Not going to loose any sleep over it. But I've got to say the guy who admins it is a proper clown.

    Sounds like it

    Thanks all...

@thebigyin  Tommy Cogbill .... definitely could be described as "naughty donkey". Don't know masses about him other than "Preacher Man" to be honest.

Hi Nick check out some early Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett some classic 60s RnB.

Hey folks - my name's Nick and I live in Edinburgh.

I've been playing since I was in my mid teens (going to be 40 this year) and moved to Edinburgh a few years back. I'm originally from London but was in Aberdeen for a few years too. Due to the arrival of kids etc. I've struggled to find time to play over the past 3-4 years.

Part of trying to get this part of my life restarted includes coming back to forums like this so I thought I'd do a quick intro.

As a player I tend to aim into the Jamerson/Babbit/Jerry Jermott/Willie Weeks type space. I got really lucky when I was young as I had a couple of year learning with Paul Westwood who taught me basic harmony and how to walk through jazz standards before showing me how all that stuff culminated in James Jamerson.

Since then I've done a load of different things (blues, big band and small band jazz, functions, originals, drum'n'bass / breaks, country / singer songwriter stuff).

Gear wise I'm pretty much a J-bass guy - my main squeeze being a through neck 5 string which wears some old flats (it looks fancy but it's basically just a jazz bass with a narrower string spacing) running through a Genz Benz Streamliner and some Barefaced cabs.

If anyone knows any good jams or teachers in or around Edinburgh then let me know.

Welcome aboard Nick your a man of my own heart with your influences....throw a bit of Tommy Cogbill in the mix aswell and all's good...it's a great forum with plenty going on, enjoy.

No but i know the guy who has my first bass a Columbas Jazz that he used after i bought myself an Aria SB1000. He was mate and guitarist in the band. He offered to give it back couple of years ago but his daughter was learning bass and she's moved on to an Overwater now.

Also my twin neck Shergold 4 & 8 strings was for sale on Gumtree and i emailed the guy but he never got back to me. It was Shergolds first 8 string as they converted one of their 6 string necks to make it. Was great bass but bloomin heavy for a wee 9st  teenager

The Shergold and the Columbas both in this pic. I'd removed the Columbas name and put my own instead. The daft things you do when you're young :laugh1:

Don't think i'd bother buying old basses back now tho. I have some nice ones as it is.

    Dave

I still have my old Columbus Precision....I have just advertised it Free to a good home along with a little practise amp.....on a local Forum on Facebook.

yea, now here's a story, i sold my 80s G&L L2000 to some chap in manchester in the mid 90s, its was mint with tags in the original case, the one with leo fenders sig on the headstock before fender made him move it, listening back to the recordings i did with it i always thought sh!t that sounds good, should not have sold it. Then about 8 or 9 years ago i saw it on fleabay, i got intouch with the seller and indeed it was the chap i sold it too, so it was pulled and i got it back for £100 less than i sold it for in the same condition, he did not like it so stuffed it under his bed, so now it lives under my bed, still mint with the tags in the original case. 🙂

Im still looking for my wal midi bass, i badly want that back as i now have a use for it again

    Good luck with the search
