Never watched the documentary but when the allegations first came out it didn't surprise me.

Is the J bass good for reggae? Well not for me it isn't. Playing with my thumb, around the sweet spot where it's not too deep but not too boney - the backs of my fingers / knuckles keep messing with the volume controls.
What are the secret reggae basses that most folks don't know about?
These should [probably] be certain models of fairly obscure yet inexpensive basses, with that special 'Kingston Mojo' that "we" done want the old and rich square people finding out about. Because they'll just buy them all up to play covers of UB40 covers [badly] in their beige painted drawing rooms. 😕
Jazz Bass.....jobs a gud'n

A set of 50s Rock n Roll tunes I joined my first band after just 6 months of playing Bass...I had been messing round with the 12 bar stuff whilst learning some basic bits n bobs and an ad appeared in local music store "Bassist wanted for 50s Rock n Roll band" so I thought what the hell give it a bash and I surprisingly got the job....I think I was the only one lol...I blagged it to Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Elvis ect just basically played the same thing in different keys and varied it occasionally. Good luck.

Not wanting to open any cans of worms, but she also seems to think she played bass on The Four Tops - Bernadette.
Although to be fair, she doesn't exactly state that she's talking about the 1967 hit single version! ...
Nah....deffo Jamerson you can tell, there was only one Jamerson the King of the Bass.

except these were just bassists and not composers and singers of many of the most enduring songs of all time
True but this been a Bass Forum i'm pretty sure it would be about his Bass playing but I could be wrong....I don't doubt his talent as a musician I just don't like him or the Beatles, I think there are far better Bassists around but I am very biased

who are these 'greats' that he's not in the same league as?
Jamerson, Weeks, Cogbill. Jemmott, Rainey, Jaco. Babbitt, Jackson....just my opinion mind as I can't stand him or the Beatles

I know this will rattle a few cages but I don't like him as a Bassist or person....as a Bassist he is not in the same league as the greats and as a person I think he is a bighead.

Nowt wrong with that Bob. My main thing these days is as a solo acoustic singer/guitarist, free from the dramas, frustrations and demands of the bands I've been immersed in for the last 15 years.
Very enjoyable it is too, and about as good a fit as i can manage between my other family/work commitments.
Good luck with it Bob.
Thanks mate appreciate that

Nothing wrong with being a multi-instrumentalist. You'll always be welcome here!
S.P.
Thanks that's true and to be honest I have flitted between Bass, Electric and Acoustic and become the typical jack of all....master of none, but been thinking things through and decided to concentrate on Acoustic as I can please myself then...as I work very unsociable hours that don't allow me to be in a band now and it gets depressing so hopefully going to learn some Acoustic Fingerstyle Blues and eventually go it alone...that's the plan lol.

Thinking of calling it a day on Bass...it's been a frustrating few years been Bandless for the past 4 years and the last 2 bands I was actually Vocalist/Frontman as I started out as a singer back in the late 70s...I took up Bass about 99/2000ish very late starter but packed up in 07 and started fronting bands again, then my work got in the way hence not gigging for past 4 years and to be honest although I have tried to keep my hand in practising at home I just don't enjoy it anymore...so hoping to get back into solo acoustic stuff....I have enjoyed the Forum it's the best out there I wish you all well but enough is enough, cheers Bob x

Amazon Kindle or Kindle app is the best known eBook reader. Probably the widest selection too. Kobo’s were nice too but didn’t really take off. You can download free eReader apps.

Morning all anyone heard of them one come up for sale locally not interested by the way just curious I have an old 70s Columbus P Bass which isn't very good just wondering if the Ventura are the same type of mass produced cheapo instruments that flooded the market in the 70s.
