  1. Whoops - I had forgot! That'll put the kibosh on that then!
  2. Gee, thanks Kev - you really must invite me round to share your thoughts on home decor some day! 😉 BC (or Mark Newman to his friends - owner of new Zoot Wal-a-like...)
  3. Hmmm, interesting. The Rautia was the one that got the most love on the Aria SB Facebook users page and was felt to be the most authentic generally. Mind you, I don't recall any particularly negative comments about the Armstrong pickup.
  4. I don't pick it up until next week, Rich! 😁
  5. And, @Steve Soar- you're more than welcome to pop over and give her a blast any time.
  6. Thank you, Steve - Gawd, how many years ago was it you installed that ACG filter preamp in my old Zoot?! I hope all is well with you.
  7. I am here you know! 😁 Well, it looks like we have a hung jury! The gold bridges were just some I already had and don't owe me anything, so I think I'll buy some black ones also and experiment.
  8. There will be sound clips in due course. Gold hardware - still not completely sure myself, to be honest. I may get a set of black bridges and see what it looks like with black base plates and gold saddles.
  9. I see I've just improved my rank to 'Proficient'.  Can life get any better?

I have no idea, my friend. I've been a member since 2007 (but was on Bassworld or whatever it was previously for a few years prior to that)!  I don't comment with any great frequency (or insight, some might say).  Someone, somewhere, will know how we elevate ourselves, I'm sure.

You get points for Liking (or other emoticons) on others' posts, and for other doing the same on your posts. I think you also get points for starting threads.

Thanks Daz. Good to know 🙂

  10. I spoke to Mike yesterday, Martin, and he said you'd been over. He mentioned the conversation you had and I agree with a lot of what you said. As we both know, his work deserves a much higher profile than it has.
  11. Lot of likes, I see, but no firm interest yet. If this doesn't go within the next couple of weeks or so I'll pull it from sale for the time being and retire it to a case under the bed as my 'Wal-a-like' will be delivered before the end of the month so this will get very little playing time, I suspect. Instalments still an option so if anyone is procrastinating, drop me a line and we can talk...
  12. Not feeling quite so 'conflicted' about the gold bridge units now as I realise they compliment the fret wire really well! 😁
  13. Ah, so you don't round off the fingerboard edges until after the frets have gone in? That's interesting, @Cosmicrain, I sort of assumed it would be done before. There's going to be a really obvious reason why's it's done this way round, isn't there!
  14. Looking good, Mike, looking really good!
  15. Obviously, now it's turned out so well, I'll never go above the 14th fret! 😁
  16. It's feeling fairly, er 'substantial', but no final weight yet. My Funkmeister, which has a mahogany body also, comes in - very approximately - at about 9lbs.
  17. I have been procrastinating about this for months but I am finally reconciled to parting with my beautiful Zoot Funkmeister Custom, made for me by Mike Walsh. If it weren't for the impending arrival of a new Zoot and the fact I already have another 3, I would be keeping hold of this but pragmatism and space have won out. I'm looking for £1,200 - a considerable amount less than the same spec would cost to be built new. EDIT: For interested parties with cashflow issues I'm happy to take payment in 2-3 instalments over a couple of months if wanted. Delivery/collection on receipt of final payment. Even by Mike's (our very own Cosmicrain) usual high standards this is a bit special. It has an exhibition grade flamed maple top which really has to be seen to be believed - the pictures don't do it justice at all - with matching headstock, both finished in a deep amber/antique brown colour. Body is mahogany laminate with maple veneers separating the two layers and the top wood. The hardware is custom (black/gold mix) USA Hipshot throughout, with Haeussel pickups and a John East U-retro (3 band with para mids) preamp (18v) with passive switching and tone control. Neck is a 5 piece laminate of roasted maple and tiger striped blue jarra. As you can imagine, it has tone to die for: Specifications: BODY: Two piece mahogany with maple veneers between. TOP: Exhibition grade flamed maple finished in deep amber/antique brown with matching headstock NECK: 5 piece laminate of roasted maple and tiger striped blue Jarra. 32" scale' 37.5mm nut width. STRING SPACING: 17.5mm at bridge FINGERBOARD: Macassar ebony, approx 16/18" radius. Medium jumbo frets with rolled fingerboard edges HARDWARE: Custom Hipshot (USA) in black and gold PICKUPS: Custom Haeussel Slan humbucker Jazz-type PREAMP: John East U-retro with passive switch and tone. Wired for 18v WEIGHT: Approx 9lbs based on the tried and trusted bathroom scales method It's a great bass and a fantastic example of a top luthier's work. Completely clean and in 'as new' condition - no scratches, buckle rash or marks of any kind. Plays like a dream and sounds fantastic. Currently strung with Roto steel roundwounds (40-90). I'm happy to demo if anyone cares to visit Bass Culture Towers in Chester - tea and cat tickling will be optional extras. So, if anyone fancies a top quality custom bass, at a greatly reduced price - without the 12 + month wait, and with 'easy payment' option - you know what to do! Pick up is preferable for obvious reasons but I do have a spare Hiscox lite flight case I can send it in if needed (for, say, £40), so the buyer is welcome to arrange delivery by their preferred courier and it will be securely and safely packaged. Any questions - just shoot. Oh - and sale only please. Not looking for any trades.
  18. Excellent information everyone - thank you.
  19. Thanks for your replies, folks. I think i’m getting my head round it now!
  20. Yep, personal taste. We used this shape on my ZB-1000 too, as I like the symmetrical placement of the tuners. It’s more in keeping with the Wal original too.
  21. I'm doing a bit of homework on a potential new combo purchase. I run my current, TC RH750, head with its compression all the time. Of the combos I'm looking at some have on board compression and others have a limiter. Are these different names for the same effect or do they do different things? If so, what's the difference in terms of the impact on the sound of my bass? Yours, confused of Chester. [Mods - if you think this is the wrong forum for this query, please move.]
  22. Having played the SWB Deluxe at the weekend I would certainly say the quality is top notch. They are really, really nice basses, with excellent quality PUPs and preamp too. They'd be on my list if I were in the market.
