1. Faith No More - Billy Gould. Recently purchased The Real Thing and it and Angel Dust are now getting lots of airtime in the BearCave. Rush - Geddy Lee. Early stuff before the synth years. Pink Floyd - Roger Waters. Money is my fun tune of the moment to play.
2. At the moment I'd settle for getting the right note best two out of three. I'm nearly there... YouTube vids to follow on completion.
3. If I could have just one Fender... ...I'd be a happy bear.
4. Funnily enough, I'm looking at the BA115 myself. I've played on a mate's and it seems pretty decent but I'm really quite a novice in this department. Are the alu ones bad then? It's not as if I can wait and save for it or go much more expensive as I'll be shelling out for a lot of things in one hit. I'm already in trouble for increasing my budget on the new bass. Help!?!?!
5. My only bass <---------- Avon Rose-Morris, Gibson Grabber copy. Will be buying a MIM Fender Jazz in a couple of weeks though.
6.
I say this each time one of these theads comes up: Andy Rourke, of The Smiths. Fantastic player.
Spot on. Johnny Marr gets all the credit but Rourke's lines are just lovely.
7. Yeah, I'm pretty similar in that respect as well but I've made a few things before and nobody died as a result.
8. Just thinking, can't imagine it'd be all that much work/expense to make your own custom case. Think you can get a huge sheet of 9mm MDF from B&Q for about a tenner. Can't cost that much for a load of thick foam. Also, 2 square metres of cheap velvety material (bought for Little Bear's Red Riding Hood Costume) came to £6.50. Some paint or plastic material for the outside. Add some hardware for around £20 odd quid and you could get a pretty spot on case exactly to your specs for about £60 all in. The only problem is the labour which is always my sticking point. I'm seriously tempted to build my own case when I buy my new bass couple of weeks. I may do a build thread on it. Thing is, it's a really big if; I do get ideas and then apathy sets in quick. Mind you, I'm sure there's a load of things I may be missing here as well.
9.
EADG - anything else is just too much hassle
+1 on that.
10.
I expect that would make sense if I actually understood what you were talking about
Good point, I have a bad habit of being confusing.
It's a quote from Rush's "The Trees" (Hemispheres, 1979).
That's the badger.
11. I used to get the same pain in my hand when using Big Stubby picks. When I moved back to standard picks the pain went. I now use a .71 guage which is probably all wrong in some people's eyes but it works for me.
12. Be interesting to see what kind of effect it's having on vocalists.
13.
The site raises some interesting points for me and explains why my Ibanez basses are so annoyingly bright - too much maple
It's because the oaks are too lofty, grabbing up all the light, allegedly.
14. Glad to hear that it all went well. You'll have a belter on Sunday now.
15. Good luck tonight. Be sure to let us know how it went.
16. Lots of mentions of Guildford up there. That'd be great.
17. BlueBear, played bass for a couple of years then stopped playing anything for about 7 years. Just got back into playing around February, had my first ever audition last week and actually got the gig! Now have a bit of a GAS problem which should be cured in the next couple of weeks.
18. ...and some golf trousers. Good work chaps! BlueBear
