Almost forgot Gus basses. Not sure if those are chrome dildos or those hand rails that pensioners use to get in and out of the bath. Either way an odd choice to stick on a bass.

I'd love a Gus bass, and that body artwork is excellent IMO, I'd bet I can't afford one though!

  2. I used that line in the 'live albums' thread.  In that context I meant that it made me realise that music wasn't just the pre-packaged 'same every time' item that i heard on the top 40 every Tuesday lunchtime, it was alive, fluid, ever changing, never the same twice.  This revelation made me 'get' why people went to see bands live over and again, you may hear the same songs, but the experience is never the same, this was part of my growing up, and truly did change my outlook on life.

  3. The ones that blew me away as a kid, and made me want to see live bands....

    Slade Alive

    Curved Air..Live

    Genesis, Seconds Out

    Jethro Tull, Bursting Out

I have many more live albums in my collection, but those few, at that particular time, changed my life completely

I would politely offer that it's not the "clueless amateurs" making the band look unprofessional by facilitating such large gaps between songs.

That is to say, it is indeed him who is being a clueless amateur, regardless of his supposed knowledge of other guitarists tones, no-one in the audience cares.

    Nailed it!

I could sing some of his bass lines before I even realised it was a bass that was making that amazing sound.

This is exactly how I started playing bass.  At age 43 I worked out it was the bass lines I had been singing along to since I was about 12, not the guitar solos!!

I think I’ve been lucky both with my last band and my current band.

The current band is a classic rock covers band with no vocals. It’s not a gigging band, just mates getting together once a fortnight and for various reasons (all of which happened before I joined) there are no vocals. We had a mate come and do some singing for us on Thu and the general consensus was that it put us all off and we prefer it instrumental. Nothing to do with his ability mind, we just prefer it instruments only. Probably helps that we’ve chosen difficult songs to play, there’s a lot of work in them so it doesn’t get boring.

The last band was a 3 piece originals punk/Oi band, all of us completely committed. I only left as the constant gigging and touring combined with a full time job got too much for me.

So two bands completely different but the same in one respect, all band members wanting the same from that current band.

Sounds like fun Lozz, what sort of stuff do ya do??

Thanks @Oopsdabassist Where did you order yours from?

    the sub or the scales?

Sub was from PMT Northampton about 3 years ago

The scales were off amazon as i recall, very handy for weighing up my basses!

re the PU being hot, there was a thread ages ago addressing this, I ended up soldering in a small resistor to calm it down a bit as in its standard format the output sound was horrible, it so very nearly went back to PMT.

  8. When I were a lad, I could never get to see enough live bands so live albums were pure heaven for me, so:-

    Slade - Slade Alive

    Yes - Yessongs

    Curved Air Live

    Genesis - Seconds Out

    Jethro Tull - Bursting Out

These 5 pretty much defined my youth, and I still listen to all of then regularly today, I love the energy they put out over relevant studio albums.
