  1. Yay the snow gig!

We piled over to Bracknell in 4 different cars, under grey skies.  A few flakes started falling while we loaded in, the 2 barmen commented, 'might be a quiet night'  By the time we started, snow was 3 inches deep and audience was 1 man and his dog...honest! It got no better and at half time, the barmen said, knock it off guys, snow is getting worse...and he paid us!  He wasn't kidding about the snow, I got stuck behind jack-knifed lorries on a hill on the M25......for 4 flippin hours, got home about 03.30, guitarist had to abandon his care 4 miles from home and walk...guitar in hand lol.  The other two got home ok and annoyed me for hours....'are you there yet?'

  2. In the 1st iteration of the current band, some 11 years ago, our 1st drummer (also the singer) wanted to do a gig local to me, with his brother (good keyboard player but agrophobic) they hired a room above a pub, did all their own promo, on the day of the gig he texts me asking if he could borrow the band stage lighting rig, which I had.  Given I was in bed with a migraine at the time I wasn't best pleased.  Still, I loaded up the motor, set up the gear, and said I'll be back later to de-rig, "stay around" he begged, "we need the numbers"  the numbers were currently me.......and his girlfriend..........and so it stayed all night, not a soul appeared, I fell asleep under a table with my earplugs in praying to my head to stop exploding.  the girlfriend woke me with a kick at the end, scowled at me and told me to get rid of the lights...charming!!

Ten Years After - Watt; The Faces first album.

This track has what I consider one of Alvin Lee’s best guitar solos - from the album Watt - bass is pretty good as well.

I was in a prog rock covers band that sadly never got past rehearsals. There were some excellent songs that I would have loved to do. And we did the best cover version of "I know what I like in your wardrobe" that I've heard. Favourites among them:

    • Back street luv - Curved Air
    • Don't fear the reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
    • In a broken dream - Python Lee Jackson
    • Nights in white satin - Moody Blues ("our song" for Mrs Zero and me)
    • Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel
    • Sylvia - Focus
    • Tomorrow night - Atomic Rooster
    • Silent Running - Mike & the Mechanics (bassline only slightly more complex than Waterfront but a great song)

We still do Thunder's cover of In a broken dream, its an awesome song!!

Great to see someone wanting to cover Curved Air, there are a few CA tracks I'd love to do, but I can't see me getting em past the rest of the band lol

  6. I have a couple of Planet Wave cables and a couple of Cordial ones.  I've had em so long long it was before I had heard of OBBM cables, never gonna get my OBBM ones now, so these buggers had better last a bit longer!!  At the time, I bought em cos they had green bits on the plugs and made em stand out a bit........shallow...moi???
