Thanks for that, that looks more within my capabilities. I’m electrically challenged, so can you clarify what 10k resistor PLUS 5% means? Ta.

The coloured bands on resistors are a code giving you their rating, that one is 10,000 ohm resistance, with a tolerance of plus or minus 5%.  If you are serious about having a go yourself, when I did mine I ended up buying a pack of 10 or so, I can have a root around and see if I can find the rest and bung one in the post.

^^^^ Correct. Mine is a later Indonesian one, but has hot output.

Mine is too and the output was scary hot, I did the mod but not sure I used that one shown.  It plays much better now.

Edited to add picture of mod, its a 10K resistor +-5% soldered between the earth connection and the 'cold' wire from the pickup where it connects to the volume pot.  Thanks to Hobbayne for the pic, he got his one modded for him a coupla years back and I just copied from his pics.

Wikipedia tells me that I saw them a few months earlier at Knebworth as one of the support acts for Deep Purple's reunion gig.  No recollection whatsoever, despite me having clear memories of seeing the bands on before and after them, and in the days before a second stage there wouldn't have been anything else to do but watch the bands

I was there for the Deep Purple, I remember Meatloaf came on with his broken leg plastered up to his nuts, and he went off in a huff after about 15 mins cos of the amount of mickey taking......apart from that...nada...not a sausage, other than Purples set.  You say UFO were there, I'll take your word for it...I wonder who else was on the bill?

I have grown to dislike the UK rail industry -- years ago I was proud to be a railwayman and would defend it to the death in an argument, but not these days. More often than not, it embarrasses and angers me. Far too much political bullpoo.

I hear you bud, I started in 79, and I was a Railwayman, and proud of it!  Post privatisation, I became just a contractor, and the many...many years of that whole ethos ground me down so much. In the end, when Carillion went under I was so glad to escape the grind.

I'm a Train Driver/Instructor working for London Northwestern. I've been on the railway since I was 17. In 1992 I went into management for 11 years but returned to driving in 2003 to reduce stress. We work a four day week but training often occurs over a five day week, so instead of taking the extra day as pay, I take it as time off in lieu which allows me to take time off to gig. I'm retiring August after next at age 60. Although I enjoy my job, I've had enough now and can't wait to retire!

And we did some signal sighting together Col, back in the nineties/naughties.....was it still Network Southeast then?

  6. Retired railways signalling engineer of some 38 years service.  If you have ever travelled on a Train from Derby to anywhere since 2010 you have passed a signal that I help put in the ground. I chaired special committees that debated and decided signal placements and then kinda project managed the actual construction. I've done many other similar projects since then, from Edinburgh to Reading and many places between.

Since my company, Carillion went bust in 2017, I have a nice little part time job working with push bikes, and my protected (thank the gods) pension to keep me happy.....oh and the music of course, never forget the music!

Historically, I’ve struggled with the concept of talking about what I used to do with people I don’t know. My head tells me it puts barriers up before we’ve even got to know each other, which has happened, but I really should be less bothered about it....

I’m a retired Police Officer. I served 8 years before I specialised. Carried firearms for the remaining 22 where I further specialised as Rifleman. I was an Operational Firearms Commander for the last 16. I have a few stories. Quite a few of which I can’t tell.

Now I just play bass 😀

I always thought the yanks were OTT when they greet their ex-servicemean with 'thank you for your service', but I kinda get it now.

    So....thank you Hiram.

  8. Used to play it with current band until we got a new drummer, who flatly refused to play it, he is now long gone but his replacement also rolls his eyes whenever its brought up, shame really as it always went down well.

. In fact I can pinpoint my precise "whoa, wtF is this??" moment...

That is a VERY good way of looking at this I think, for me, without any doubt, they were:-

    Seven Seas Of Rye

    Virginia Plain

    Silvia*

3 tunes that so jarred me out of just listening to what my parents liked, and made me want to explore that big wide world of music.

*To be fair though this was on my dads copy of Focus 3 (so it was technically a song my parent liked)

  10. First Concert - Slade, Rainbow Theatre 1973...I think

Last Concert - The Pink Floyd experience, back end of 2019, the backing singer who also played the sax solo's was magnificent!

Best Concert -  6 of the Best (Genesis with Peter Gabriel) MK Bowl 1982,  the wettest I have ever been, but also the happiest, we were 3 rows from the front......unforgettable

Worst Concert - Cheap Trick,  so loud it was just a continuous drone of noise

Loudest Concert - Level 42 at the old Empire pool Wembley, we were near the back too, but at least we could still make out the songs (see above)

Seen the most - Probably Curved Air, or The Enid, we do love a bit of prog!

Most Surprising - Joan Armatrading doing a solo show in a School in Northampton about 3 years ago, my wife is a big fan, I just went along for the ride, she was spellbinding!

Next Concert - Well I'm playing at The Shush in Wantage next week...does that count?

Wish I could have seen - Yes in their heyday, being a Hemel lad I was amazed when I found out they played at the Decorum in 1975, and I missed it!

  11. Saw Stone Broken open for Cheap Trick at the Forum, Kentish Town a couple of years back, They were very down to earth, sound was awesome and I really enjoyed their set, When cheap trick came on, I got the feeling the sound man just maxxed the sliders and went for a curry, cos the sound was fooking awful, waaaay too loud, and I saw more punters outside the venue having a beer than inside, ok I'm not really a Cheap Trick fan and it was the 1st time I had seen them, but it wasn't a good initiation!!
