1. This takes me back a couple of years to when I put on the site a very innocent posting about my visit to the Abundant Life Centre in Bradford and how impressed I was with the band. I checked the day after assuming that it may have had a couple of comments.....how wrong could I have been http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=30106
2. Been playing live for about 7 years now and essentially just dropped the amp and cab down and with very little fiddling about just cracked on with the gig but I decided to have a play around with the gain control last week and discovered that I can now get that "growl" that I have admired from other players ( I use a "geddy" Jazz ) Nice to be able to cut through a bit more without increasing the overall volume
3. Cross Keys in Morley on Sat night, great venue, great crowd and brilliant gig with the 7 news songs starting to flow nicely now Sunday night and a surprise 40th at the Masonic Hall in Harrogate. First set a little early at 8 but decent start and then wow !! the second set had the dance floor rammed all the way with 3 encores after the official cut off time Great musical weekend
4. 10,000 hours practice !!!! Well that would explain why my girlfriend tells me i'm "f*****g awesome" in bed ( or did she say awful....my ears are not too clever these days )
5. Had a cracking wedding gig with two full sets playing to packed dance floor with a bit of a mosh pit on the rockier less wedding type songs ( Skunk Anansie's Weak etc ) Cross Keys at Morley tonight then a 40th in Harrogate on Sunday night....pretty decent bank holiday weekend ahead it would seem Bugger.....just remembered that we slipped Summer of 69 back in last nights function set after a long break and both me and the drummer had our "moments" in it !!!!
6.
Oh, I thought that Spike (Landlord) said that someone from Empress was playing there with another band there soon I have played the Tap many many times over the years with a variety of bands - recently with Spank The Monkey and now with Paddy Maguire.....
That could be Gavin our guitarist who plays with other bands if available as he is so talented and has such a wide repertoire.
7. It was a blast and we only had one minor car crash but recovered well from it Great bunch of guys and we rocked
8.
Will this be at the Brewery Tap??
No, I think it's the Mill Lane club at South Kirby I like playing the Tap it's a great pub. Have you played there ? and what band are you in ?
9. Really looking forward to it and it's going to force me to learn a few new songs and then try to expand my repertoire every week in case I end up doing more stand in gigs until our singer's back has healed.
10. Due to our singers back problem we have not been able to gig for six weeks and its not showing any sign of improving but I had a call from our guitarist who wants me to play on Sat night with him and a drummer and singer he knows. I have agreed and just got the set list with a good few on I am familar with, a few that I have played but not in along time and several that I probably should really know but have just never bothered with I only have a few hours available on Sat afternoon due to other commitments so it could be an interesting night but after a six week gig break I am really revved up to play as I cant believe how much I have missed it
11. If any of you guys get chance to wander away from all the exotic and expensive bass stands please have a wander on to the JHS stand and say hello from me to the guitarist in my band Gavin Coulson ( long hair and beard and really looks the part of the rock god he is ) He is an awesome musician and unbelievably nice guy. He has a fabulous wife and five brilliant kids and will be missing them this weekend so please please please no Mark King style slapping Many thanks Tony
12. Bugger, bugger, bugger.....last weeks, tonights and next saturdays gigs have had to be cancelled due to singers illness and I am missing it like mad. Just hope we are back up and running soon
13. I am on a mission to de clutter my house to sell it and I have loads of Sound on Sound magazines that need to go ( they go back to issue 1 I believe although none from the last few years ) Anyone interested or any idea what the value would be ??
14. Saturday night at Montey's Rock Cafe in Harrogate aand once again it lived up to its name as it was packed from early on and we had a wild night with a fabulous lively dancing crowd. Love playing gigs like this
15. A very wet and windy drive to the Brewery Tap in Idle, Bradford last night but we had a good sized and very appreciative crowd. Must admit we do seem to be playing pretty tight at the moment and sticking in a rocked up version of Sound of the Underground was an inspiration as it is going down brilliantly Monteys Rock Cafe in Harrogate tonight with my girlfriend, two of her friends and our guitarists wife attending so should be a very lively night
16. Just found out that we are the headline band on Easter Saturday at this pretty big event so looking forward to that
17. The Alex Hotel in Harrogate on Thursday night and it was a cracking gig with a very lively group of ladies who had seen us the week before attending. Last night was Netherton Con Club and a little quieter but still good. Mine and the guitarist's partners were in attendance and sank a shandy or two between them but its so much better when she comes with me and has someone to chat to rather than sitting alone part of the night. Tonight we are at the Boot and Shoe at Ackworth with built in PA and lights so a quick drive from work, throw down down my cab and off we go Been working all weekend so looking forward to an early finish and bed tonight
18. All went well with Come Together in the set for Thursdays gig and Sound of the Underground ( with a very "Metallica" twist ) to be used in sound check and then possibly later in the set Also had a good go at No Doubt's "It's My Life" and we should have that cracked soon as well.
19. First set about 50/55 mins Second an hour or so plus 2 or 3 encores Definitely agree with having a break for pee, drink, regroup on set etc and to socialise with friends etc
20. We seem to be out gigging quite a bit so haven't had chance to put any new songs in the set for ages so tomorrow these are the chosen ones Buggles Video Killed The Radio Star Beatles Come Together Foo Fighters Best of You Girls Aloud Sound of the Underground Also bringing back in Alannis Morisette You Oughta Know Should be a fun evening learning these tonight, rehearsing them Tuesday then gigging them Thursday
21. Saturday night and our first visit to Starbeck Con Club at Harrogate and despite a bit of a bad load in we had a lovely stage to play from with proper dance floor Great gig with lots of lively dancers ( one with a very nice short skirt ) Three gigs next weekend and working too !!
22. Nearly a page gone and no one mentioned Mustang Sally yet !!!
23. It might be my eyes (and the fact that its monday morning) but the AR looks off.
Apologies but what is the "AR" lol
