I have been extremely lucky to have commissioned a Zemaitis bass, back in 1989 when Tony was still producing guitars from his quirky garage workshop. My 'Z' is also a fretless which makes it rarer than a rare thing. One (fretted) made the cover of Geddy Lee's 'Big Book of Bass' There are two phases of Zemaitis, the original made by the man himself, and the Greco manufactured current line. Never seen either for sale on here. Wouldnt mind a Greco era one but ony if is it wasnt LP style. Dont like LP syle basses.

I have owned 424x (still do its my third) 425x and 1025x's. On my current 424x changed out the bridge on the 424x for a Babicz and wouldnt consider buying a 1024x if one came up to replace it. Honestly the tonal difference isnt anything to write home about (between the 42Xx and the 102Xx series) and the difference iapeears to be hardware. The 424x hardware is good, a simple bridge upgrade makes it a 102Xx equivilent for less money. I'd love to have a 425x or 1025x 5 stringer but i'd happily do the same upgrade on a 425x with a babicz and be done and happy. As for the replacement design that saw the end of the 'x' line I dunno they look dont look as complete.

As a way too ebay influenced (as in i really shouldnt have bought this many but ebay helped..a lot ) buyer/seller/collector/playerI have owned a LOT of basses (possibly over 200). And i have a few sellers regrets in my 45 years of bassist shenanigans. So occasionally i land up re-purchasing basses previously sold.. But there are a few that I just dont see ever come up for sale...rarity or just held onto by happy owners..who knows? Yamaha series 1 TRB 'slapcut'. Awesome basses, Japanese build quality. I had the rare Jazz pickup layout version. Owned it for 14 years and rather dumbly (is that a word?) sold it. Never seen that model since. Dammit. Any of the x series of the budget Yamaha BB's. I have owned 4 and 5 string versions, managed to snag a 424x but you hardly see them for sale, they are brilliant. Washburn Force 42. Headless 80s bass. Never seen one for sale since the 80s As a collector i'd likely buy any of the above without even planning to gig them (although i do take the 424x out for the odd gig or two see below..) Any basses you hanker after yet never see on the for sale board?
