She says on YouTube her page she only started playing in 2010! Makes me feel inadequate in every way.

When I play, the strings go across my belly button so stomach. For picking though, I usually lower to my crotch.

Currently I'm using Dr Hi-Beam steel strings because I wanted to get the growliest, zingiest tone I could from my Corvette. And it worked a treat.

First time round I couldn't really tell, but listening to it again it seemed like the only sound I could hear was the fundamental note. Anyways 1 2 3 up, 4th down On bad laptop speakers

Besides, its not really a compartment, it's just a cut-out in the body with a lid on it.

[/quote] No offence taken, but it is a pain for me as the battery compartment lid on my bass has a dodgy release latch. It takes me at least 5 minutes just to get the thing off. Also, there is no issue of anyone tripping over the cable because my bass is in a corner and no one walks within 4 feet of it.

Mine isn't any louder than my old passive bass was. And the change of batteries is pissing me off and I hate that I cant leave it plugged in. Is there such a thing as an active/passive bass? Such as, when the battery dies switch to passive and rock on?

A huge thanks for all the info from everyone. Very insightful, especially for a beginner like me. Just to clear a few things up - I understand that bass is more or less a rhythm instrument and I'm not looking to make it the main thing in the mix. It's just that on the song that I'm trying to mix, the bass is much like the one on this song, except less 'in your face'. I know about some of the fundamental basic stuff, like cutting and boosting to separate bass and bass drum etc. but I just couldn't get it to sound like I wanted it to. I'll have a go at all the things mentioned when I get back because as of yesterday I'm on holiday (and I'm wasting time on basschat silly me) Also, I don't have the luxury of handing my work over to someone else so that's not gonna happen, but oh do I wish I could.

I think this is the most appropriate section of the forum so here goes: how would one go about producing a sound like this [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ed8NBPmits"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ed8NBPmits[/url] really thick, driving sound that fills out the whole bottom end, but is still quite punchy and doesnt drown the bass drum?

It helps me to visually memorise where my fingers should go, in other words, I remember a "path" across the fretboard. To memorise I simply play through without looking. When I forget, quick glance at the sheet and continue playing.

I use my earphones which I also plug into my bass amp so I can hear myself clearer.Pretty good sound isolation as well. Apart from very close fitting over ear headphones, I can't see any other way of protecting your ears without faffing around.

Do you tense up your forearm muscles when playing? I used to get this problem playing bass and problem and found out it was because I tended to play with force and would get mad cramps after 20 mins in my right wrist/forearm.

I guess I just play for "the feeling" I get when things just fall into place and everything sounds just right for three minutes before the next train comes crashing into the station. + I'm never really satisfied with the music I create, never know why, but that keeps me coming back to it.

if the furry stuff is underneath the strings then that will most likely be your skin and dirt. Its what Im currently rockin

Mine sits in the corner of the living room and doubles up as a table and as stereo for TV.

The key almost melted in my hand as i just stood there getting blasted with electricity Needless to say, illl have someone who knows his stuff have a look at it

Its that time of the year again. Old ones have got too much of my epiderma on them. One thing im undecided on is whether i should stick with the Warwick Red Labels my bass came with or go for something else. I dont mind the roughness of steels on my fingers, so i was thinking how would strings such as high beams or ProSteels compare to the stocks?

Ive only now noticed that my Eden head (or at least i think its the head) produces a humming/buzzing noise, but only when the output pot on my bass is turned up between 2/4 and 3/4. That is, when the bass is on full or completely turned down there's no unwanted noise. anyone got any ideas why its doing that?

What about humidity? During wetter months my room can consistently stay in mid 70% air humidity. Is that fine?
