1.
that's one of those single sided floppy disks anyway isn't it? Oh no wait! there was "I am (I'm me)" as well - phew, proper double sided single then... You'll be digging Dokken and Poison out next
Dokken, forgot about them! Beast from the East!! Poison are still cool. Look What The Cat Dragged in is a classic (in the Surrey area anyway) I will confess to having Manowar Fighting the World in CD, cassette and vinyl version (plus a funny coloured vinyl thing too)... SAD
 2.
Wildchild - Album version with Jungle noises in the middle! What the hell was that about ? Ha! me too and cough...all the others mentioned What about Mammoth - they were really bad (and really fat )
Dumpy's Rusty Nuts anyone?
 3. Great topic for bringing back those memories. Dusted down my mp3s here at work. Been a bit quiet with customers so I have forgone my normal blues and country fare and so far have listened to Nelson (remember them?), Queensryche, Great White and Bang Tango! Did try to get though Twisted Sister Greatest Hits but only managed on song (We're Not Gonna Take It) before I turned it off... too painful.
 4. More candidates for worst heavy metal album: Manowar (Fighting the World), Tankard (The Morning After), Judas Priest (Ram It Down). All albums which I adored at the time but were pretty terrible when you look back on them! Edit: Just going through my mp3 collection, I think you can probably add Tigertailz (Beserk) onto that list too...
 5. All right I'll let you off The Last Command but only because it's got Blind in Texas on it and the only solo you could ever be bothered to learn properly Harsh, but true! There are some other good songs on it, although to be fair, the names of them escape me!!! Ballcrusher...was that one? Fun Fun Fun by Quo was late nineties so doesn't qualify - Fun Fun Fun was the single off the album Don't Stop, including the other mega rock hits like "I Can Hear the Grass Grow..." Anyway Theatre of Pain isn't Crue's best but I still like it. Same here. Prefer SATD and Girls Girls Girls.
 6.
You've obviously never heard Come out and play by Twisted Sister or The Last Command by WASP
The Last Command is a GREAT album (and Theatre of Pain for that matter). Maybe you were thinking of The Headless Cross by Black Sabbath, The Spaghetti Incident by GnR, Don't Stop by Status Quo or maybe Tattoed Beat Messiah by Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction...?
 7. All of the first 5 Crue albums are top listens (although Girls, Girls, Girls is my personal favourite) Granted, they are not particularly high brow but that wasn't the point. I was a big glam metal fan back in the day and loved the stuff that was tongue in cheek and of the moment rather than trying to be stuff it wasn't. But saying that, i probably only still listen to Crue, Cinderella, Firehouse and Poison occasionally. Haven't listened to LA Guns, Hanoi Rocks, Ratt, Winger, Warrant etc for a couple of decades! Just take it for what it is and be transported back to the early 80s...
 8. Great transaction. Just bought an ashdown little giant. Great communication, good product and friendly advice. Thanks
 9. It does happen. We turned up to a gig once, not calling to confirm the day before or anything and found another band there too. They had got it muddled and double booked us. The other band were cool about it too and we split our sets and both played. Was quite good actually, there was more crowd than there would have been, we got to play and also got to see a good band at the same time. Another time, we were booked in to play a social club gig but again didn't check it first. Turned up and they had the bingo on! We were turned away without so much of a sorry. We were young and green then so didn't complain!
 10. I have had several MIM basses and guitars and i have not had a bad one, they have all been good or excellent. That is something i cannot say about USA made ones where i have struggled to find anything more than adequate for the price. Would choose a Mex version over a USA version these days, although i really prefer the MIJ ones which have a nice feel but slightly let down with electronics. I doubt i would buy another new one though, i have always moved them on or kept bits i liked to make partscaster guitars to my own specs. i find the mass market ones a bit souless. I prefer the old Matsumoku intruments with all of their quirks, much more interesting to play.
 11.
I understand. I respect your opinion. It's also very clear to us where other guitar forums have been going wrong. Any special interest group is likely to develop its own culture on a forum and for this reason alone, having clarity between one culture and another is a good thing because it allow members to choose where they want to spend their time the most. We intend for there to be a single log in for both sites and the same approach to management will be taken. Members from here should feel free to post a question on guitarchat and expect the same kind of reception and quality of information that they would get here. Anything you have concerns about can be taken up with one of the mods or the admin. The main thing Chris and I hope to achieve is a stable and friendly atmosphere...how that is achieved is as much down to the members as it is how the forum is managed. I hope everyone who has shown an interest on this thread so far will be able to work on that with the admin and I a little more collaboratively, once the forum has been skinned and is running. I hope to run an online...facilitated workshop. Very much along similar lines that I do for my day job. Also, if you help us by being active on the new forum you will also be helping to shape the community!
I understand. I didn't mean to denigrate your ideas. Having consistent log in would be very helpful. Would you be able to flit back and forth without logging out? It would be much easier to follow threads on both sites. I would certainly like take part in the new forum when live, especially as i have more guitar related gear and experience than bass, and i would hope some of the other guitar inclined members would do the same.
 12.
How many guitar forums have you both visited which are managed like Basschat and are lucky enough to have such a great team of moderators? Re: false information - I'd suggest never take anything at face value. Google is your friend. Re: silly and pointless comments - I suggest that sometimes being silly is the point Re: cause a nuisance - there are block and report functions available on BC
That is all very true, but i meant that people putting silly comments on a serious question is not always helpful or welcome. It was more if a comment about the attitudes to the forum and perhaps the mental capacity of your average guitarist! I should know! I fully agree that BC is far better moderated than others. Google gives far more conflicting information quoting anyone that wants to write something. Surely that is the point about asking opinions on a forum such as this? I would hope that you are far more likely to get considered answers. I am not against it in principle, i just don't think it necessary when you already have functionality within BC for guitar related discussion.
 13.
Had a scary moment today. I'm suffering from a little tendonitis recently and I noticed the pain was pretty bad playing the blues scale (my go to scale) on the first 5 positions of my P-bass. Anyone else suffer from tendonitis? It's not as if I can even change my technique to help. Would playing a short scale bass help? I'm really worried about this. Help!
I have arthritis in my knuckles in both hands and even considered changing to play left handed to minimise the effects (was a bad idea). I tried all sorts and found that changing to a short scale actually made it worse if anything for me but moving the strap up a couple of notches on my jazz bass gave the most improvement (although i felt like a prat at the time). I also found a medium scale aria from the 80s and changing to pick playing which really helped. The strap button position meant that the neck it was slightly closer to my body that my jazz bass plus the medium (32") scale meant that i could still play the scale in one position and made i much more comfortable. The medium scale is not as bass boomy as a full scale so i went to flatwounds to add extra bass in and to take away some of the brightness from playing with a pick. Took me over 5 years to work all this out but now i can play a home and rehearsal without too much problem but i do suffer the day after a gig.
 14.
I'm good with just this section of BC, a dedicated forum would attract the kind of people I'm glad don't frequent this forum.
I have to say that i would agree with Gareth. i am primarily a guitarist who has just come back to playing bass and i have had involvement with general gear and guitar forums. Whilst there are plenty of educated and sensible people on these foums, there is also a proliferation of people who just seem to either give you completely false infomation, post silly and pointless comments and just cause a nuisance. This does not seem to be the case on BC. Although i would be very happy being active in various guitar orientated topics, i have found that in my short time on BC, i have learned more and been entertained more by the members than i ever have been on other forums. I would have no problem posting a guitar related question on BC and be confident to get some considered replies. I think i would prefer to be involved with a dedicated sub section of the current BC.
 15. Any of the Aria's, especially the SB (I like the CSB medium scale). The John Taylor look, bass strapped high and not down by your knees - proper 80s. Great.
 16.
Make sure you do your research before making what could be a very costly mistake! There have been quite a few threads on upgrading J pickups recently, and many people seem to have come to the conclusion that the differences are nowhere near as obvious as others make out, and that often there is little to be gained from going straight to the premium end of the price scale. This one for example: http://basschat.co.u..._jazz%20pickups What is your "Jazz bass"? Is it a Fender? If so, what type of pickups is it currently wearing? Also, the comments about strings are very valid too. I personally found that changing string brands can make a bigger difference than changing pickups. And then there are adjustments to the height of the pickups too.... Of course, it is your money - but you might find that you end up £200 lighter in the pocket and still yearn for "that little something extra" in your sound...
Good advice. I plumped up well over £200 for a set of custom hand wound jazz pickups for my homebuilt jazz but i didn't take into account what I played, how I played and what strings i used and was never happy with them. In the end i changed from round wound to flatwound and changed from fingers to pick playing and managed to get that sound i was craving. eventually though, it wasn't comfortable so I went back to basics (pardon the pun) and started going through traditional sets again, from the Fender Custome shop 60's to the Dimarzio Ultra jazz and didn't get on with those either. Found my favourites in an unlikely place...(please don't laugh). Wilkinson Premium range Alnico Jazz bass pickups. About £45 for the set and sound brilliant to me and for the way I play (back to fingers for the softer side but kept the flatwounds). Oh, and made a P Bass too to accommodate the harder styles...
 17. Hi Rob Welcome, congratulation in your decision and good luck in learning. I have come back to play the bass after a couple of decades away and am effectively having to relearn it. It is a most rewarding instrument with such a wide learning curve, easy(ish) to start and harder to master fully and definitely cooler than guitar (everyone and his sister plays guitar don't they?). Stick with it and you will have a friend for life who doesn't judge you when you haven't touched her in years! Simon
 18.
Yes still available
Cool, PM'd
 19. Not sure if this will work properly, but a photo of my 2 aria pro cardinal 32" basses and my 30.5" aria violin bass. Excuse the photography, taken on the ipad... You must forgive me, i'm also a widdly widdly guitarist so have no concept of size or taste...
 20.
1989 charvel - this needs pics some of us are getting old and need to reminisce about our mispent youth of the 70s and 80s
I started playing on a mid 80s charvel that i got given by a friend if a friend... wish i still had it. Red sort of crackle effect and pointy headstock. Traded it for a more traditional and understated BC rich warlock in pink! Those were the days... I used it to great effect in a rhythm and blues band :-)
 21. I have a 30.5 inch violin bass which I like playing, especially at home but don't like the look playing live. I am a tall guy and it looks like atoy on me. I have a fender jazz which I am happy playing but find some fills a bit harder to get under my fingers. I also have 2 32" scale aria pros which i love playing. I find them a really good mix of tone and feel, less boomy in the low end and easy for harder riffs but I have played 2 other 32" scales which I didn't like so I think it is more about a particular instrument rather than a scale length issue.
 22.
Hi all, I am a beginner and got a Wesley b350 off someone. I quite like the sound of it. It's not been looked after all that well, but I am trying to put it back into shape. Just wondered if anyone here plays a Wesley or has ever heard of the make and what you make of it?
I had a Wesley musicman bass, and a Wesley telecaster off eBay, new for around £80 each, to practice my wiring and modifying skills before I let myself go on my Fenders. Pretty basic (pardon the pun), starter instrument, Chinese fare, not bad though. For the price they were both good value and good for knocking around the house or a backup but nothing you would choose to keep for long I would say.
 23.
Pick playing is great. I've also been trying out using my first finger like a pick. The advantage being that I rarely drop it...
Good point! I have seen players gaffer tape the pick to their fingers... I have always been pretty good in that regard though and rarely dropped or broke strings until I forgot spare picks and string once to a gig and without my safety net it all went a bit pear shaped! Muddled through although a bit embarrassed. Ended up trying to reconfigure an out floyd rose tremolo with only 5 strings and using a good old 5p piece as a pick in the middle of the gig. I think, at the same gig, several patrons of the working mens club we were playing at walked out muttering "if this is called music, I'd rather be deaf...". Can't win 'em all!
 24.
If your going to be playing classic rock then go with the pick......don't listen to those finger snobs
Excellent, cheers! I do like the punchiness of it, and being a guitar player for so long, I'm finding I use a lot of rhythmical muting during my playing. Much less tiring too. Not yet done a band this time around though so will see how prospective band members see it (my experience of guitarists - myself included - is that they are just interested in their own noise and not bothered unless you clash against their solos...)
