Well I tried an Alesis SR16 at Andertons and I was a little disapointed. The guy in Andertons was as useless as possible because I was not interested in spending £250 on the latest model of drum machine. So he was not interested in showing me the Alesis SR16 but he did show me how to scoll through the drum patterns and then just walked away So I had a play but I just found the machine to limited. It only had about 4 jazz beats and lots of rock beats. I guess I could programme some but at this stage I wanted to avoid this. Thanks for the help so far but I think I am going to keep looking. I may just go with a metronome at the moment as something to play along to.

Who's up for another South East Bass Bash?
Linus27 replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
The West End Centre in Aldershot might be a good place. I have done lots of gigs there and they have lots of rooms or areas. They also have a bar, lots of parking out the back and close to a mainline train station. If I am free I might be able to make it. I could bring my Stagg EUB along. -
I can't recommend the Stagg highly enough and I am sure others on here will feel the same. I have wanted to dip my toes in the world of EUB for the last 10 years or so but they have always been to expensive. Then the NS Wav 4 came out and it looked like a realistic option at £700 so I started saving up for a year. However, I heard about this Stagg EUB that came out at £350 and one came up for sale on here for £200 and I grabbed it. For the money, it is an amazing piece of kit. You really can't fault it for that price. It also sounds superb, some say more like a double bass than the NS Wav 4 which has been compared to sounding like like a electric fretless. The action may be a little high but this can be solved by filing away at the nut a little so the strings sit lower down. I had to do this a fair bit to my E and A string and now it is a dream to play. Also, some of the intonation cane be a bit out but once you learn where the correct places to fret are, then it makes no difference. It certainly has not been a problem for me. I also recommend lessons to get you heading in the right direction. I have been playing electric for 20 years and it is a totally different beast. jakesbass on here will sort you with lessons. Drop him a PM. I am sure he will be able to help you out or point you in the right direction. Either, way just do it. One of the best things I have ever done. Get yourself a Stagg EUB, get some lessons so you have something to work towards and your love every minute of it.
BUMP would anybody be interested in this for 150 without the upgrades? cheers
Do you now have the original pick-ups?? You said earlier that you didn't. Just working out if you mean original as in bridge but still the EMG's or the original bridge and pickups??

Have to say, I totally agree with everything Terry says. I think I am on my 4th or 5th lesson with Jake next week and I have enjoyed every one of them. -
Bass player wanted for U2 tribute act TRIBU2E. Ideally based around the Exeter area. please email for details. call - 01392 675488 www.myspace.com/tribu2e
Bugger, I grew up playing U2 and I can play them like the back of my hand. Here is a You Tube clip of me playing New Years Day, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCe2fba51EY Such a shame I am so far away as I would jump at the chance of doing this.
You could do it. Adam Clayton has the easiest job in the band.. i hope he come on here and tells me different.
I could tell you a few things about Adam Clayton as the engineer who worked on U2's Joshua Tree album produced my old bands album. Believe me, he makes wht he does look very simple and it is strangely harder than it looks. It may be simple but I doubt many are as tight and in time as Adam.

Thanks Ped, really looking forward to it.
No probs mate. cant find my camera tonight but will get on it tomorrow. BTW the end pin is fully extended but just clears the floor by about a cm. Old Git has definitely got this to work perfectly. Cant take credit for the pictures already posted cos they are OGs but Ill take some close ups. Did you get my PM re the tripod stand?
Hi Maxcat, Sorry for the delay in getting back. Yes got your PM about the Tripod. Thanks very much for that. Thanks also for the photos.

OK I took the plate off and all the wires were still intact. i gave them a wiggle and also this green thing which I am assuming is the capacitor. The tone seemed to work a little after that. So its either this green thing which is soldered to the pot or one of the wires.
-
Yes its passive. So its something I can't fix myself then?? What would need replacing. Just the capacitor or more than that? Sorry not really electrically minded.
-
I have a Squire Vintage Modified Fretless and it seems my tone control is doing nothing at all. Turn it full one way and and full the other and no difference in the tone at all. What would be the cause of this?? Easy fix or would something need replacing?? Thanks for any help.

Hey Maxcat, can you post a couple more pictures of the stand, especially how it sits near the bottom of the stand. I can't see if you have the end pin extended or not. Thanks
I love reading these threads- every time I end up having to say the same thing. Not bad that it wasn't until the 5th reply that we got the compliment with the mandatory "but.." attached to it. And not bad to have only 2 criticisms on 1 page. "he's not bad.." ???!!! "he's kinda sloppy.."??!! "There's no groove.."??!! "play stuff slower and grow up..??!! Come on- he's 15 and very good for his age. When he's 35 he may be a monster or conversely he may not groove at all. But at least at 15 he was way, way, way ahead of me and many others at 15. He's on track. Let's see some love for the young 'uns
Well I am more than happy to say I think he/she is an amazing player.
Hi Rainbass. It is indeed the Lion Brewery every Thursday night. We host every 5th week and our next one is 5th June. I dont tend to bring the Stagg to the jams unless we are hosting cos it probably wont get used. Saying that we could defo sort something out in advance if you fancy a tinkle. The first proper outing for the beast is next Saturday 24th at the Crown and Cushion Haslemere with my band Six Miles Away if youre around. Look forward to meeting you.
Bugger. If I wasn't in Kent that weekend, I would come down and see you play. I might try and make the Lion Brewery on the 5th if you have the Stagg with you.

Thats excellent. I will pass this info on. Thanks for the help.

I was looking at getting a metronome to use as practise to play along to as I learn to play double bass. I have been doing this with my teacher and it has been a good thing. Then, I downloaded some of the loops that Ped had posted and they gave me some inspiration to make some bass lines up to play on my fretless. So I then got thinking that it would be cool to get a drum machine so I then can chuck out some random drum beats so I can play along to. I seem to be able to make up bass lines up on the hop from just hearing drums playing. The sort of thing I would be after is jazz beats, hip hop, slow groove type stuff. Certainly not rock, metal or funk. So, is a drum machine the right sort of thing I am looking for? Ideally, I don't want to get bogged down with programming my own beats so lots of pre-sets would be great. I don't wanted to be to limited with only 5 or so pre-sets. Also, any recommended drum machines if this is the right sort of direction to head in? The Zoom SB223 Street box Drum machine looks pretty cool. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thats either Mark King's love child or programmable robotic children are now available. Either way, one of my theory's is right and I claim my £5.

Hi, Somebody sent me an email asking me what this symbol ~ mean when reading TAB. Not being a TAB reader, I have no idea. I have searched the internet and found some great explanations on reading TAB but none of them explain what the ~ symbol means. Does anyone know what it means?? Thanks for any help.

Yeah Stingrays are more like £650 - £750. SUB's are more like £350.
Thanks for all your replies, I appreciate your input!! I think I might have tracked an elusive Stagg down, been doing a bit of deer stalking I'm not going to say where but the price is £349, (which I can't really afford at the moment!!), and I was wondering if this was a good price?? Oh and it's a violin burst one too!!!
£349 I think is about £100 over priced. However. Supply is short so you may have to wait a little to get it for about £250 http://www.zingsmusic.com/product_info.php?products_id=5176 http://www.normans.co.uk/Items/Item.aspx?SKU=edb-3/4mbk I think you can buy them at other places also.

Does anyone have any pictures of the early Warwick Streamers that came out I think aound 1987. They had Ying and Yang fret markers. Loved that bass and not seen any around or pictures for years.
