Hi, Somebody sent me an email asking me what this symbol ~ mean when reading TAB. Not being a TAB reader, I have no idea. I have searched the internet and found some great explanations on reading TAB but none of them explain what the ~ symbol means. Does anyone know what it means?? Thanks for any help.

Yeah Stingrays are more like £650 - £750. SUB's are more like £350.

Does anyone have any pictures of the early Warwick Streamers that came out I think aound 1987. They had Ying and Yang fret markers. Loved that bass and not seen any around or pictures for years.

When I owned a Stingray (why did I sell it gggrrr) back in 2000 I think when i played with a pick, the pickup used to get in the way. Playing with fingers was great as you could rest your thumb between the two bumps on the top of the pickup. The Squire is top of my list as I love Jazz basses.

Having decided to not need a bass and selling my old Fender, I have now decided I am going to need one as I am going to retire my trusty 20 year old ESP. I really want a 2 eq Musicman Stingray but funds really will not stretch that far. So, rather than waste to much money on something good, I want to get something that will just keep me going, do a good solid job, sound half decent, play well, not fall apart and keep me going until I get my Musicman. I may pass it onto my son when he's a bit older and may be interested in playing. So the short list is, Squire Vintage Modified Jazz - £215 OLP Musicman Copy - £199 Musicman SUB - £300 - £350 secondhand I have a Squire Vintage Jazz Fretless and its superb and I love the look of the Vintage Jazz model. I have heard the OLP Musicman copy is pretty good but really not sure if its better or worse than the Squire. The Musicman SUB is a bit of a long shot as they are hard to find. Also, not sure if I want to spend that much and if I should just hold out until I can get the Stingray. They are also slab bodies which is a worry. Any kind of opinions would be most helpfull.

I had a 3 band eq Stingray and I was never happy with the sound. It seemed to thin and twangy for me. I wanted something with some drive and balls and it never gave me it. It had a superb sound and the nicest bass I played but the sound was to weak. I wonder if the 2 band eq would had been fatter.

Its currently 4 to the reds and 1 to the blacks at the moment I think

Have to agree with the above. Please cancel the next lesson and don't waste any more money or damage with that guy. 27 is certainly not to old to learn and the small hands comment is rubbish. I am sure somebody on here will be able to find you a decent and proper tutor.

Have to agree with the rest. Save up and get a combo. A 1 x 15 Ashdown combo would be a great move and if you get secondhand your save some money which you can spend on beer or give to me to go towards my Cherryburst Musicman Stingray that I want but can't afford for yonks and yonks.

After seeing Adam Clayton at Live Aid, I thought he looked really cool and wanted to be like him. The Police/Sting was also a big influence due to my sisters really being into them. So a friend had a bass guitar and I was given a guitar. He wanted to play guitar and I wanted to play bass so we swapped. I then spent two years locked in my bedroom learning to play U2, INXS, The Police songs and anything else I had. I lost all my friends as I never went out and just spent two years playing bass. After that, I went out and found a band which is where I cut my teeth in playing live, learning to write my own bass line and write songs. A few bands and years later and I had absorbed every thing bass but still, it was not enough and I am still searching for more. I am currently teaching myself fretless bass and having double bass lessons with jakesbass. Not really sure what direction I want to go now. On one hand I want to play punk pop which is my natural style, I also fancy doing something more acoustic with the fretless, acoustic guitar and female vocals and also I would like to do something with the EUB. Either way, I love playing.

Ok, this really is a shot in the dark or like looking for a needle in a haystack but here goes. I am based in the UK and I sold my 1998 3 EQ Teal Green Musicman Stingray to a bassist who either lived or had a friend or family that lived between Kingston Upon Thames and Richmond. More to the point, the place was called Ham and they lived in some flats which I think are somewhere around Northweild Lane, Yeovilton Place, Debden Close which are all off Dukes Avenue. The bass was sold on Ebay in 2001 for around £670.00, came with a Musicman hardcase and I delivered it to this address. I got the impression the person did not live here and I was dropping it with a family member but I could be wrong. Anyway, I would love to get this back if possible as it does have some sentimental value. If anyone knows of any bassists in this area or even better if they are on here, let me know. Very unlikley but hey, its worth a go. I guess, even if you don't want to see it, would be good to know how the bass is doing.

I would say I am not a snob because 95% of basses I see I think are ugly. Either they have a horrible head, a horrible pointy shape, or the necks to long or something else. So most basses i see I don't like. The ones that are on my list of likes are, Musicman Stingray Warwick Streamer Fender Jazz Fender Precision Fender Telecaster Bass Most other basses are ugly to my eyes. However, one thing I really do not like is basses that have lots of knobs or controls. For me it should have volume and tone. nothing else. Also, If you asked me 20 years ago, even 10 years ago if I would own a Squire, I would laugh and say no way. However, now a happy owner of a Squire Vintage Modified Frettless Jazz which I feel is one of the best basses I have ever owned and played. So all in all, my choices are limited due to personle taste. I have about 2, maybe 3 basses I want to own. They are, Musicman Stingray 2 EQ in Cherry Burst. I used to own a Musicman and it was the nicest bass to play and is the best looking bass you can buy so i want another. Squire Vintage Modified Jazz. Beautiful looking bass and hopefully sounds a good as the fretless. So at least i am easy to please :)
