http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=water+rats The problem with a lot of gigs in London, or central London at least, is that few of the venues do in house promotion so you can be dealing with promoters at the same venue that have wildly different attitudes to bands. Nights at Water Rats are mostly promoted in house by Monto, though several nights a week the venue seems to be hired out. Personally I'd prefer not to deal with Monto, though others appear not to share my reservations.
Ohh, very interesting reading that other thread. I used to play the Water Rats about 9 years ago and it was ok. Always a pretty good venue. My new band have been looking at getting some gigs in London but it looks like I might have to avoid the Water Rats now. I did speak to the promoter last week. A guy called Tom Rogerson and he did seem very friendly but it does sound very dodgy there now.

3. This could be a really good thread. How about adding The Waterats, kings Cross, London and the Boileroom in Guildford, Surrey. I also think 600 capacity is a bit much for The West End Centre in Aldershot. More like 200 - 300 hundred.
4. I used to always take a spare but only because I used to play with a plectrum in an angry punk pop band and so string breaks was fairly common. Once every other month but then we were doing lots of gigs and practising for 8 hours a day for 3 days a week so I was going through strings quite quickly. Now I play with fingers in a more layed back folky/pop/jazz (no idea to be honest) thing and so I can't see me breaking strings anymore. However, its a hard habit to break and I am so far torn between taking two or just one to gigs now.
5.
Hi I have a shuttle too what do you think of the 212 neo ?
Hi, so far the NEO 212 sounds good. I'm not fully happy with it but I've only had it 2 days and only tried it at home so not had chance to try it in a band situation. I will be on Sunday. There's nothing wrong with it tonally and it looks superb, is well made but I've not had time to fiddle with it yet properly. The Epifani 310 I borrowed sounded great out of the box with the shuttle. Very clean, clear and punchy. The GB NEO 212 sounds a bit heavier and fuller. Great for a deeper tones but I am trying to get a much cleaner tone. A bit more fiddling tomorrow and on Sunday. I'm very happy with it though, just need to find my tone.
6. Somebody must want this. A near brand new, never gigged ABM 410 for £280 or nearest offer with cover, manual and box. Its a seal at this price.
7. I originally had a 1998 Musicman Stingray with maple neck which I sold in 2001. It was the nicest, flatest neck ever. I loved it. Now move forward to now and I have bought a 2005 Musicman Stingray and the neck is pretty damn chunky. Now is there a build difference between the necks on Stingrays or has my playing just changed over the years and all this playing of Jazz basses has made Stingray necks feel much fatter than what I originally remember?
8. Richard bought my Ashdown ABM EVO RC 575 head. Super guy, quick delivery, great to deal with and very friendly. Needs a holiday though :)
9. Another bump. Just received the proper Ashdown cover through the post that I forgot I ordered so this is included in the sale. Might be open to trades but not sure what I am after so let me know what you have. Nothing speaker or cab related though.

13.
Being up on stage playing music is inescapably about look and image. It's nearly as important as the music. My band consists of four old, fat, baldy blokes - it's a bit of an odd image but it's still an image. Most pro musicians I know care a great deal about their appearance as it can make the difference between getting the gig or not. EDIT: Hang on a minute... who'se the dude in the carefully crafted white shirt and loose tie. You go down the pub like that do you
I love that photo. Something very coool about it. Is it you?
14. Great thread this. I think its very important to get the band image right for the reason that it is also a product, not just music. It helps people identify and relate to the music and the group. However, its very hard to get right as each member of the band have their own opinions, styles and thoughts and you somehow have to meet in the middle. Still, if you can get it right then it can really work wonders.
15.
You can pull chicks from playing bass?
Hell yeah and real one sometimes
16. I'm more worried about why the bass is so high up and why it has one extra string. So so wrong Am I the only one who fell for the whole, rock and roll, get in a band, get drunk, strap your bass around your waist, look sexy, get in a fight, look cool and pull lots of chicks approach to bass playing?
17. Good stuff. Your lead singer looks a bit like the lead singer from Ash. Tell me though, why do you all wear your guitars so high up? It looks really uncomfortable. Not taking piss, serious question.
18.
You now Ashdownless?! (well, when this sells)
I sure will be when the cab goes. I just wish it would sell as I need the space. I've gone all lightweight and weedy with my Genz Benz setup.
19. Amp head now sold. Please someone buy the cab. I really need the space. Someone make me an offer. You never know, I might accept
20. Hi, I am selling my Ashdown ABM 410T 4x10 Speaker Cab with Tweeter. I bought them brand new a few months ago and have only been used twice at band practise. The rest of the time it has been used at home. The reason I am selling them is I have now bought a Shuttle 6 and NEO 212T cab. Ashdown Link http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.as...n=abm&ID=14 I would take £250 for a quick sale. Speaker is in mint condition and come with original boxes (a lttle tatty), manual and brand new unused Ashdown cover. Collection, courier or happy to meet within a certain distance if fuel is covered. I am based in Surrey and any inspection or trial is welcome. Please feel free to ask any questions or request more photos. The towel can be included if requested

23.
My '96 is that pale lemon yellow. And the neck is a long way from the tree trunk that was on the Sting I had. Only slightly fatter, front-to-back, than the very thin neck on my MIM P...which is exceptionally flat.
If you ever want to part company with it then let me know as its one of my dream basses
24. In the early 90's, Fender Japan made the 51 Precision in Sunburst and a very pale lemon yellow. My dream is to own the pale lemon yellow one but they are so so rare. In fact, I have never seen one in the flesh, only in pictures. Much nicer than the butterscotch colour. Here is a picture on it,
25. There is a Marcus for sale in the for sale forum, http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=54208
