  1. Just been to the Blue Lamp in Aberdeen to see one of the many bands @doc40hz is in. It was his Level 42 tribute band "Mr Pink". This is the second time I've seen them and they didn't disappoint. 👍 Great sound, playing, harmonies and as tight as a stubborn jam jar lid 🤣. If you get the chance to see them it's well worth going.

I would! And I think his playing is extremely musical - though there seems to be a school of thought that thinks only simple ditties or straight-ahead riffs are musical, everything else is showing off.

Personally I celebrate talent and have no problem with complexity or even atonality (which Charlie doesn't really do, more's the pity!), though ultimately it's down to taste...

I generally like what he does eg: presents pieces of music in a way that can be appreciated by a listener or someone who wants to progress and learn some of his technique. If he was jumping all over the screen you wouldn't be able to see properly what and how he was playing. 🤣 As with all music it won't float everyones boat.

I've said it somewhere on BC before that "Electric bass guitar appears to be the only musical instrument I can think of that it is frowned upon to progress and get better and you must limit the notes you play." 🤣

Pianist: "I've got 88 keys available to use"

Other musicians: "Knock yourself out. Use 'em all if you want and as a bonus you can play more than one at a time! :shok:"

Guitarist: "What about me? I've 6 strings and 120+ different note positions?"

Other musicians: "Yep, no restrictions either, carry on, lets see what you can do. Wait.....only one restriction, no playing of simple chords or we'll rip you to shreds for not being complicated or accomplished enough"

    Bassist: "I've got four....."

Other musicians: "STOP right there! You may have four strings but you should limit your playing to the lower 2 and then only up to the 5th fret"

    Bassist: "But....?"

Other musicians: ".....and no more than 4 notes per bar played with fingers or a pick. Don't forget we're watching you!"

Adam Clayton: "But when I do that you rip into me???!?!?" 😕🤣

As far as those who say "Jaco only needed four strings......he was but an amateur.....my Grandpop only needed ONE string and played one of these 🤣

  3. I occasionally get an electrical "pop" from an amp when its plugged into a certain socket in the house 🤔 Not incredibly loud but loud enough to be unnerving. I'm not practicing at volume. Never happens on other sockets in the house or on gigs anywhere else. I've checked the socket in question and all apears to be OK so i am interested in what this thread thows up 🙂

Have you tried plugging into one of the sockets that the other amps are OK in?

  4. I seem to be joining a long list of Kevin's happy customers 🙂 My purchase was his brand new Protec Contego gigbag. Kevin was very flexible in delaying postage until I was back home and all comms were great. Thanks again 🙂

So maybe my answer is to be careful with the gain and thrown the master wide open.

For me its a balance between the 2 - set the gain for clean undistorted sound and then boost as required with the master volume.

@AcebassmusicAt practice room volumes since it sounds fine. Alex has just come back and said I've not got enough output happening.  Is that the same as you saying I'm overcranking the gain, and got the master volume turned down too low?  I remember once Dave Green at Ashdown telling me gain should be whacked wide open, and only use the master ouptput volume to control volume.

Good to hear it sounds ok at rehearsal levels, hopefuly means that no major damage has been done 🙂 I'm not quite sure what Alex means by "not enough output happening" 🤔

As far a whacking the gain right open I've always understood it that you should push the input gain until it only occasionally clips on your very loudest notes and then use the master for your overall volume setting. I've just plugged into my Eden 500 and VK 210 and with the gain cranked I can create some exceedingly awful farty sounds at very low volume. 🤣

Played a three hour ouside gig yesterday in the heatwave .  My band's loud so I had had gain on 1 o'clock and master set to around 2 on my Markbass LM3. My 4 ohm BF Two 10 kept farting. Could it have been heat?  Or do I even more totally not understand these things more than I thought?

From my experience, playing an outside gig tends to swallow up the bass so expecting a 2x10 to keep up with a loud band could be a little optimistic (even though BF are good). I'm also assuming that as you were outside your cab wasn't near any side or back walls? If it wasnt then you lose any boundry effect that helps boost the volume from the cab.

What EQ settings did you have? If, due to the lack of boundry effect etc, you've boosted the lows to compensate this could be contributing. Also as @jazzyvee says if your input gain is slightly too high it can cause distortion / farting from the cab.

Have you tried the amp / cab since and noticed any problems?

  8. Content could be classed as NSFW or for junior ears as it gets a bit sweary 😬  (Mods, please delete if you don't think its appropriate.)

My band Reloaded headlined the last night of the Midsummer Beer Happening ( FB link HERE ) in Stonehaven a few weeks ago and covered RATM's Killing In The Name Of as our closing song. If you've not heard it before it's really not the sort of song to play to Granny but great fun to play to a marquee full of partyers 🙂

Am I right in thinking that your non-bold ad will become bold again, even if nobody adds a new comment to it, if you "bump" it with the appropriate Marketplace function?

I don't think "bumping" a post does bold it again, or at least I dont remember any of my "for sales" posts being bolded after doing it. It would be a good feature if it did 🙂

  10. Do you mean in the main listings? I copied a screenshot of the amp listings showing two arrows. The green one points to a bold advert and the red to an un-bolded one. If this is what you are seeing then its just a function of the website eg: if you have visited (or started) a thread the header remains un-bolded until someone else makes a comment. Once they comment the title goes back to bold letting you know you havent read the most up to date comments. 👍
