  1. For sale or trade is my DBX DriveRack PA+ (the PLUS version) Speaker Management Processor. Lightly used and in excellent condition. Loads of great functions and very simple to program and use. Manage PA systems from 2 to 6 speaker / output arrangements using the onboard crossovers / compression / limiter / equaliser / feedback suppression etc. I've attached the manual so you can see the many functions it can undertake.

I suppose my position should be that I don't actually care what people think.

Would you just say "feck it, I'm going to do what I want and get some practice in on the 5 string"

Correct and Yes 😁 You'll be lucky if anyone realises you're playing bass never mind its a fiver 🤣 Have fun 👍

I love this style of playing. Sure it's not for everyone but I enjoy listening and having a go.

I'm somewhat limited so far, (but not a beginner) and one thing I really don't get is those very muted little 'tick' notes that fly around. I get muting a string with your left hand, but I can't get anything like that sound, and it's especially hard in the middle of phrases.

I've had a quick listen to the start of the song (great track from TOP, will listen in full later) and I'm assuming the "ticks" you're taking about I can hear at the 1.10 and 1.18 seconds points? If so they are exactly what you called them "muted" or "ghost" notes. Best way I can explain how I play these is: think of slapping straight octaves. My thumb is playing the downbeat and my first (or second) finger is playing the upbeat by plucking / popping the higher octave string. I then lift my left hand finger that's holding the higher octave up slightly to stop the string ringing eg: muting it. If you pop the string hard enough it comes back to hit the fret and with the muting provides very muted little 'tick' notes 👍

I find having a relatively low action helps with this. Hope this is what you were asking about. 😁

Sony DWZ B30 owner here. Bought it in Oct 2014, done an average of 50 gigs per year since then and never had a single issue with it. Not one, nada. Ever.

I bought mine about the same time and have gigged it extensively with no problems. In fact over the last 3 or 4 years I use it when I practice at home as well so thats a LOT of use 👍

  6. For sale (or trade) is my TC Electronic G Major 2 multi effects unit in excellent condition. Pictures show it in its usual rack home (rack not included). Although most of the reverb and delay effects are aimed at the guitarist I have found the compressor, gate, flanger, phaser and octaver (up and down) etc. to be very useable for bass. I have attached the manual below.

You can use the unit in your DAW as well as with your bass / guitar etc. Patches can be easily selected from the front panel or attach a midi-pedal (I used a MidiMoose). There is also some Vyzor software you can download from the net which allows you to interface your PC with the GMajor to edit and backup your user patches.

  8. Hi xarray, nice looking 6'er you have there. I'm sure a number of people on here would be interested in a few more details such as string spacing at the bridge, how old the bass is, weight, balance (any neck dive etc), is the scratch plate removable, any dings / scratches, truss rod working and is the ramp permanent etc? GLWTS 👍

  9. For sale is my modified Ibanez SRX305 body and neck only which I used as the basis for a project using other parts I had at the time. The fully functioning bass was for sale on here but I withdrew it as I wanted some of the parts for other basses etc. The following is text taken from the build description giving you an idea of what I did:

    • Strip the full body and neck
    • Re-profile the body giving much better access to the 24 frets / fit a battery box
    • Fill body & re-route for pickups, electronics
    • Re-shape the headstock
    • Re-profile the neck at the heel end to flow into the body better.
    • Relocate and fit bolts and inserts for the body / neck joint.
    • Re-paint the headstock and body in colour shift paint (purple / blue / red) and clear coat the neck.

I can split the neck / body and wrap it for smaller package and cheaper shipping costs.

The sale is for the body, neck and anything bolted to them thats in the pictures. No electrics, nut, tuners, pre amp etc.

    Price doesnt include shipping.

  10. For sale I have 5 lightweight chrome tuners taken off my Ibanez SRZ. Good quality and condition. They're lightweight at 58g each (Hipshot Ultralights are advertised as 51g each) Diameter of the sleeve that goes into the headstock is approx. 13.8mm so a hole of 14mm+ would be sufficient. Retainer screws included.

Tuner orientation is 2 bass side and 3 treble side so could also be used for a 2 per side 4 string as well. 👍

    Price includes UK shipping.

Rackmount multi effects puts you straight into the top end these days, unfortunately -- I can't think of any guitar/bass oriented units without getting into Axe-FX/Helix Rack territory. I can't imagine a cheaper unit (e.g. Behringer FX2000) will be a worthwhile improvement over your G-Major.

Yeah, there seems to be a gap in the market for a GMajor replacement. Plenty of floor based units to choose from. I'm not in a rush to change and somehow have managed to attain three units so hopefully plenty of time before I need to. 😁

  12. I've been using TC Electronics GMajor for a number of years which has worked great for me. It only provides effects and not cab sims which is all I need. It's a rack mount unit which I switch patches using a MidiMoose pedal.

Unfortunately they are now discontinued. I started having a look around to find a similar but updated rack unit but cant seem to find anything that isn't overkill or overpriced for what I need. Anyone got any ideas or advice? 🤔

  13. When I was running my old band and chasing gigs I found more and more that the people booking the bands at a venue had no real idea about space / power / load in requirements. I would try to visit every place we got booked for to build a relationship with the booker, view the venue for the above requirements and subtely guide said booker with things like "great, lots of power sockets....we usually need an area of 10'x8' to set up all the gear, drums and musicians...where do you think is best?" They dont always appreciate that the space the duo were using last week (5'x4') is really only big enough for the drum kit (oh and drummer of course 🤣)!

For the bigger gigs where PA was supplied I also found it worth having a very basic rider / stage setup diagram showing the number and position of vocal mics / bass DI / guitar & kick mics / monitors needed. All other drum mics were down to the in house engineers choice.

The bass bash stopped long before covid due to lack of interest. Best of luck if you decide to try and sort out another one. Apathy runs deep unfortunately.

Thats a shame. I never managed to get to one but the feedback I heard was that it was a great event, well organised. 👍

I bought it used from Germany, when I lived down south, back when you could buy things from the EU without being screwed with your pants on by customs & excise. They are a very forgiving fretless. It’s the bass I’ve had the longest there. When I bought the EUB, it was done with a view of only having that or the MB2. However, they do rather different things, so no plans to sell - at the moment. Your welcome to come and play it if you’re ever down Pitlochry way. What we need is a Scottish Bass Bash.

Yep, I know the feeling. My purchasing from the continent has taken a severe downturn.....probably a good thing long term 🤣

Thank you for the offer which is very tempting.....I was in Aberfeldy and Dunkeld last Monday 😁 ACG used to run a bass bash at Moffat until covid stopped things. It would be good to get another one arranged. 👍

The shorty ‘Ray is likely to be offered for sale I think as I’m more a Mustang guy it seems.

Ooh....a Rob Allen 5.....so close to Aberdeen...... 😲😍🤣 Usually only see them in far flung places such as The Gallery / Bass Direct which by the time I've travelled down to have a go they would be long gone 😢 Would love one but I'm "carp" at fretless 🤣
