The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
petetexas replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Hi, Just got Rivoli back from my local luthier , neck heel crack repaired , you can see it but not feel it . Just noticed , the pickup routing on this one is the size of the pickup, so the whole pickup drops inside the routing ...... very strange , my old one had the routing done for the pickup chrome flange to sit on the surface. Anyhow, I have far more adjustment in height on this one. -

Hi barrycreed , Looks really good , did your Luthier make the string extender , or buy it somewhere ? The pickup on mine , Stock 1997 Peerless factory , is Gotoh , same as the cast bridge , and I am really supprised as to the balance across the strings on output . After reading quite a lot on internet about short scale string gauges , I ended up buying a set of D`Addario EXL160S , I find them really good . Whats the serial number of yours ? -
Bought a DP120BK for a new build project £90 + postage . Project fell through a week later , so pickup not needed . Pickup not even removed from box , all seals intact , so asked Thomann for a return number , as it was not needed . I expected to pay a return postage fee but not the only two that they offered...........DHL Drop off £18 , DHL pick up from house £22 . Basically told them to stuff it , andthat I would get more money selling the pickup on ebay ! I have had a 14 year account with Thomann , but I have now closed it . Daylight robbery ! Pete

Just took the pup out of my 1997 Rivoli bass to put a bit more packing underneath to raise it up a bit , stamped into the brass plate at the underside of the pup is JAPAN , so either the pup was made in Japan or the brass plate was ! This may be the reason the pup sounds so good ( being made in Japan ) , also now I have the wiring all working - no crackles , button working for the choke etc , be it only a slight difference in sound . -

Just got hold of a Epiphone Ravoli , sunburst . Arrived with a cracked neck joint ( UPS again ) seller is claiming for a repair from them , and has refunded me the repair ammount . NICE ! This one is a 1997 Korean , made at the Peerless Factory . Had one about 10 years ago , and the pickup was crap , changed it for a D`Marzio No1 , but the sound was not suitable for the band I was in , so it had to go . The pickup on this one is superb , balanced output from all strings . not microphonic either . Now playing in a Stones Tribute band , so its gonna fit in perfectly , -

Mod Dwarf For sale the above, The difficulty I had was trying to adjust things on the unit itself . When you sort out how to the allocate the control knobs ( took me a while to get it right ) its straight foreward . When you use the Graphic User Interface , its very very easy . The quality of the sounds , selection of amps, effects are great , the quality of build , very roadwothy , in my opinion . Nice nifty carry / protection bag, mains power supply and USB cable. It still has the protection film on the screen. Manual and instructions on Internet. The GUI is on their website, so you don`t download , just link up . Price includes UK Mainland Postage

After almost a week with it , l find that my 74 year old brain cannot cope . It's really great sounding , but far to complex for me , so it will be going up for sale . I will be going back to my HX STOMP , which l can understand , and tweek on the go . Pete

Hi , Even using the GUI , its quite complex ( Computer nerds will love it ) Spent an hour or so on it last night , had to pack in , my head was spinning . Lots of things missing , or not explained very well in manual . I`ll carry on trying it out for a while , and see how I feel . Thought it would be so easy with the GUI , but spending so much time on PC instead of playing . Ive had Line6 HX EFFECTS , Mooer Ge200, Zoom B3n etc ....so easy to use , but this one takes a lot of patience and time . Pete

Just purchased ( used ) a Mod Dwarf , after watching loads of you tube videos . The thing that I liked was the GUI (Graphic User Interface)on screen , so simple to use , even me at 74 ( not being computer literate ) could understand how to use it . My PC will not link to the website that the GUI is on , just says that the website is not available , try later . Have sent three emails to the company , with no reply . Has anyone else had this problem . I`m fed up of twiddling on the box to get things to work , I want to use the GUI ! Pete

Got a used one yesterday ...............my head hurts ........my Windows 10 will not recognise the web site for the GUI ! , so have been messing around with the menus on the box ...........my head hurts.......... so many "HOLD THIS DOWN , SCROLL THAT , etc etc " Got to be easier using the Graphic User Interfece , if only it would load ! Have asked the Mod people for some help , but not holding my breath for a reply ! Pete
