series is a bit darker and bassier because you are pusing around 15 ohms of wire parallel resolves to 3.75 ohms but gives a clearer sound imho thats why they are usually wired parallel if you want volume there are some knobs to do that...dont spoil the tone and clean harmonics unless neede thats why a little switch is the answer on/on/on switch
I understand the principles but how to actually wire/fit them is whats making me scratch my head. To 'humbuck' they must be wound in opposite directions IIRC, how would this be done in this case ?
when one buys a pair of jazz pups they invariably will be wound to do this i only mention it because one might buy them separately ps the bridge one should be wider in a pair...but for economics some jazz basses come with the same one twice..but paired i think its a good idea and if you can set the distance between them the same as the distance between the pole pieces on a mm hum bucker cut the lugs to do this and dont worry about the gap if any...its black
Sorry mate if you thought I was being sarcastic. What I meant was when I said i'd not use white spirit it was based on experience with lighter fluid. As it's not lighter fluid then I made a wrong assumption, and as you have used it then it's clearly OK. I've not used paraffin to clean plastics, but i've got a plastic carton of it in the garage so it looks safe, and white spirit being a derivative of paraffin is not gonna dissolve anything plasticy either. I was being serious about using paraffin, I remember dad using it to clean glue off something when I was a nipper, but TBH I think he's better sticking with washing up liquid. it'll come off eventually and as long as the green sponge stays away then it'll be fine
you got it steve i hope fenderhead reads this and stops giving himself aggro with water based cleaners first the white spirit..spirit bassed..as we all are then the wash up to tidy away any smears and smells cheers steve geof
Hi. Using my newly acquired OLP MM3 in public for the first time this morning and found that it was difficult to mute the bass while I am not playing without messing with the volume at the amp. Problem is that I am used to using the volume control on my bass as a mute between songs. I run my bass flat out and control tone at the amp. The MM3 has separate volume controls for each coil and unless I turn them down together at the same rate one of them picks up the induction loop and produces feedback. The simple fix is to mute using the amp volume, but this is problematic as it is easy to get wrong when I need the level back up. Is there a simple fix to turn the MM3 controls into a volume and blend control? I know I can probably do this by going active but I would prefer to stay passive. Thanks for listening.
vbt is always best you can then take the hot lead from the output of the blend pot to the tone pot then you dont get that nasty loss of volume when one pup is on part full volume do you use tone at all disconnect it if not and use VB nothing

give it a few months to settle in...could just be temporary and not affect tuning too much?
The pickup is too far from the bridge to be an MM. Looks to me like a P Bass with a MM style humbucker.
a secret prototype where is it now would anyone like to have leo's breadboard or make one up themselves
the bridge on the bass looks a lot more G&L than musicman to me.
i guess george and leo were wondering what to call it...an G+L? i had a stingray and i thought that pup was a bit nearer the neck in that photo and the bridge is not as mine was so i think its a g+l prototype...
