1. The logo means nothing to me, nor the cost of the instrument...it must feel good, play good and sound right, that is all!

I've had expensive warwicks, USA fenders, stingrays 4 & 5 and currently I have a Lakland 55-01 which costs hundreds less than the cheapest of my historic basses, it sounds great, looks great and plays great!

No-one I play to has ever heard of Lakland so who cares! I love it!

2. My spare fingers aren't always spare so they float relaxed but close by in case they're needed...

My thumb - (I agree with mcgraham above), although I don't always remember, if I'm playing a more complex or swift string changing pattern then I automatically use the floating thumb thing, otherwise I may anchor my thumb, or anchor my fingers if I'm using my thumb or anchor my wrist if I'm using a pick...

3. Just to gather the other threads for Dan...

Also...he bought a rather nice rosewood thumbrest/tugbar from me, paid immediately, was thoroughly agreeable throughout and had great comms!

4. Top vid!
I had a bsy600 synth thingy, sounded good, switch v intermittent...put me off behringer, might give 'em another go now! That valve di wotsit looks real good!

So Chris will be giving me a ring hopefully this evening to go over the final details of the bass....I've decided to go for a white j series 4 string, 32" scale with rosewood fretboard and torteshell scratch plate. Possibly smaller machine heads and might have them slanting towards me too, so I can reach everything ok . It wont look custom to the eye but it'll be easier/better to play and probably (from what I've gathered) sound better (well cleaner) than a fender too! Keep y'all updated with how the conversation goes. excited much?!?!

Hi Andy

Nice to see yet another Sheffield cat on here :)
Thanks matey, I know it's been months since you posted that, have there been any Sheffield Bass Bashes? If not whaddaya think? There are a few of us in Sheff-town aren't there...

7. I had a tuner mute that cost me about £35, one switch, one in, two outs, I think it sold for less than £10 on fleabay, in fairness it wasn't nearly as useful as your double looper... FInd out what it cost you then try for about half is a good rule of thumb for this sort of thing mebbe?

I'd still like a JO/DJ5 at some point, although now I think its a 55-60 and thats it?

Yep, apparently the 44-60 / 55-60 is the new Joe Osborne thingy...looks real pretty!

Its definitely a good colour combo. I love Lakland necks, although i did prefer my DJ5 neck to the 55-01 (and my current JO4 that i have on my Squier), more so for the matching headstock and the blocks but all feel fantastic.
I too have always avoided maple but now i have a thing for them, i think they looks great on the right colour body.

Good luck with the 55-02, that too sound fantastic. I almost got a 44-02 last year in natural/maple. Great looking bass.

Thanks matey, it's funny how tastes and 'what feels right' change as we age disgracefully...

I think there's a 3 month wait before it arrives but once it does there'll be pics aplenty!

Thats a lovely Lakland. My first Lakland was a bog standard black 55-01 but i was very impressed with it. The shop (the Bass Centre) had about 7 of them and all were set up perfectly and all played well. Choosing one was a non issue.
One day i will have another, and hopefully one like this. I thought the black one was very boring and plain looking.

Aaahh, thanks matey! She's a beauty! The finish is fab (suspect it's photoflame rather than a quilted cap but still...!), very pretty! The 'plekked' thing appears to be magic, it plays magnificently, the neck is the nicest maple neck I've ever tried (I've always hated maple and have had rosewood whenever possible!)

The 55-02 std that's on it's way is natural with a maple fingerboard so very pretty but in a different way...

Happy days mate :)
I've only tried a couple of Laklands in the past, thanks to funkle, a Daryl Jones which was very nice, not quite my thing, but his 44-02 was simply outstanding!
I think they were both Skyline models but the fit and finish on both were fantastic, and the tone and playability of the 44-02 was amazing!

Cheers,
Eude
Thanks matey!

Agreed, I tried a DJ 5 string a while back and didn't like it at all but the 55-01 did it for me straight away! The workmanship is way above the price tag and the sound is superb! I have taken a further Lakland plunge and ordered a 55-02 from the Gallery yesterday!
