personally, if i were there i'd be more bothered about seeing battles. the chillis are good, but they're pretty much digging a familiar furrow deeper. ymmv
I never really get why people say this bands dont have to change all the time in their past the chillis have done their fair share of changing and tbh most people prefered how they were. When they get something right no harm in sticking at it. Soon as they change most people go why the hell didnt the stay the same. Hell look at prince never changed anything all his albums sound similar one of the biggest selling artists ever. Sorry bit off topic. I thought his playing was abit over the top on the high lights but I enjoyed it all the same its always nice to see a bass player get just as much respect from the genral public as the guitarist.

Pop an acg pre in there you will be able to find a tone you like or very probably the jazz tone your after. Very versitile system. Not the cheapest option but food for thought.

I dont think theres any time too soon Iv been in a band pretty much since I picked up a bass (true this is due to friends rather than serious bands but it doesnt change many things) I played me first gig 2 weeks after I started it was only two simple songs so my mate could sing and play guitar but non the less a steep learning curve that only did me a world of good. I think you learn alot while being in a band.

covers vs originals and the value of what you do
Sugden replied to john_the_bass's topic in General Discussion
I've never acctualy played in a full covers band. Done quite afew covers in mess around sets and inbetween origonals. But I think tbh doing the covers was harder than the origonals as it all needs to pull together and because I've never really done covers live. People who are as snobby as that should really not be listened to at any time. Im sure they aren't good enough muscians to be able to do every song written by others. Theres alot to be learned from others music they may write in a completely different way to your self which takes your own playing in different directions. I should really learn more covers... -
It's the little things that matter (rant, rant...)
Building a business these days is all about having loyal customers who you can count on for repeat business. If this may means going out of your way to make a first impression, even if cuts into your profit margin, so be it. How much future business have they lost, not only from me, but also from anyone I may have recommended them to?
This is true but you can't exspect someone else to eat up the costs for such a small purchase. If they order it for you the first time you will naturaly exspect it a second time when you want something in a hurry. When they can't do this I would espect people to get even more anoyed saying well if you had said this the first time I would have known what to exspect and left more time. But the email does seem totaly in-personal and a terrible way to sort out getting your money before even a nice word is said. Even the email being restructured would have helped. Can't treat customers like this in the day of the internet word travels too fast. -
Well in that case I would save your self a tone of money and not bother getting a car under your own insurance paying to run a car and insuring it taxing it andgetting it an MOT for £120 quid a month is almost impossible. Especialy if its main aim is to move gear around.

I have been after one of these for ages never come up in my price range though so i settled with mesa. I do think they are abit over priced here compared to being able to ship one from europe and the states for about £700 odd with tax and shipping. Mind me asking how much they are over here now through a proper shop there was someone importing them awhile back. But the switchable channels and spec looks great heard endless good things about them. Great purchase.

Ok I put on a small festival each year I asked for some help off here when I was first putting it on bigger so thought I'd see if anyone local wanted to pop by, always nice to meet a bassworlder. I know the name seems big headed but hell its named after my dad not me but I do all the work. Anyway if you live in herefordshire, gloucestershire near Ross-on-Wye let me know and your more than welcome to come along. There's portaloos for the people who dont like bushes, and theres a BBQ on all day all items £1 untill we run out. Heres a set list some you may know localy some not. I can tell you in Tilt Station and Totem Pole there is a great bassist and most of the other bands too but he is very good. 2:30 - 3:00 :: A Complete Waste of Time 3:15 - 3:45 :: Tilt Station 4:00 - 4:30 :: Toasted Egg Sandwhich 4:45 - 5:00 :: Summer Seranade 5:15 - 5:45 :: Aneurysm 6:00 - 6:30 :: Forgotten Sleep 6:45 - 7:30 :: TH3 8:00 - 8:45 :: The Kites 9:00 - 9:45 :: The Flat pack Heroes 10:00 - 10:45 :: The Dandelion Killers 11:00 - 12:00 :: Totem Pole For more details give me a shout and I'll pop you some direction if intrested. Cheers Sug

Hey chris I was having a few thoughts about my sound awhile ago. The ACG really has alot of clarity and beautiful almost fretless top due to the pre-amp and after trying the bass through a few different amps I thought the markbass was abit lacking in top and clarity even though it has alot and does give everything else a run for its money. I was suggested trying full valve. I never really found full valve to be totaly my thing and the weight and cost didnt seem to justify that added warmth. So I started looking at valve pre. The trace V-type was really nice but lacking clarity in comparisson o the markbass I thought. But then I remembered playing a Mesa Walkabout a long time ago when I started playing and my obsession started again got one off ebay and I couldnt be happier. The mesa has alot of clarity really brings out the top and warmth of my bass and cuts through really well live. Plus its only 12lbs so not too much of an increase in weight and sounds stunning only puts out 300w or 180w into the single cab I have but I havent needed it to go abouve half way yet thats how well it cuts through. Might want to have a look at the new valve pre markbass, and also eden I was very tempted by some of the eden offerings. Im also considering changing to some 10.5 omni BFM cabs just to try and get that extra clarity and range some more. Hope that helps sorry its abit of a long one but wanted to say why I made the move properly.

I've been using DR sunbeams for over a year now had some black beauties a few sets of strings before from my memory I really liked them and the longest lasting strings I have owend. I tried and bought a set of elixirs a month or so ago I wasn't impressed with the sound what so ever went straight back to the DR's. Got to get around to trying some Lo-Riders, and Im putting blue peacock coated on my fretless when its finished.

Spalted maple fretboard sounds like a bit of a treat. Should be good putting a render together of this once all the woods are in. Great seeing alan getting even more orders. The pre amp is brilliant once you have it you can't go back.
One of the things to note are the maple dowels that Alan has added for the bridge screws to anchor in to: In all honesty I would not know they were there and the Korina of the body would have been fine with the screws for many years, but Alan as a perfectionist inserted the strengthening wood so it will be secure forever, for me that's one of the many reasons why I think AGC basses are brilliant!
Indeed mine had ebony to strengthen the wood under the bridge as my spalted top was so soft. Great isn't he.

The bass looks like its going to be great I love those offset sei's. I dont think you will get the option of the ACG pre though, Im sure Alan said he wasn't supplying other luithers. He is only selling them for fitting in standard bass's to be fair it would be abit like shooting himself in the foot, it's what sets his basses apart from alot of others. He's spent alot of time and money on the pre and selling to other luithers might be seen as a bad move. But Im not sure maybe worth a nice email the pre is stunning.
Sound engineers cant polish a turd. Something many people forget.
Id be quite intrested in knowing how people you know who could polish a turd.

I dont think its even a good attempt at the ritter shape. The ritter Jupiter is a work of art, I know some people dont like it but it is stunning in the flesh. Go and have a look at the origonal and it will put you off it in seconds. I wouldn't buy it, looks like rubbish. Plus its not nice to support someone ripping off a private builder even if it is a poor copy and even if ritter do sell their basses for outragous prices lol. But then again Id be tempted to buy a ritter just to hang on the wall instead of a painting.

We arent acctualy going purple anymore for the body. I should really change the title of the thread. Its going to be that blue with a laqure finish over the top. The limba will become quite dark i beleive and as its only on the sides should look quite intresting. The purple I was never 100% sure about as the origonal plan was all blue but I think it will look great with the fretboard. Sod tissues Im going to need a towel.
