1. Haha drummers!!....the worst thing about the part is that when the drummer messes it up everyone is looking at you like your the idiot. Thank god we have it sorted now, I used to dread it.
2. I had this same issue...for the count the drummer stops on the "and" of the 4 and just counts through the 2 bars. I learnt it by copying the above live video and slowing it down an mp3 of it in Ableton and it seems to work consistently now. Those pull offs coming up at the end are tough but it's quick enough that they don't make too much noise
3. Yeh I actually prefer the studio version...great track
4. This is one of my favorite tracks of all time but unless I very much mistaken it sounds like Mick is trying to get a 13 year old upstairs with him along with her friend.....very dodgy
5. Just an appreciation post for John Paul Jones bass sound on Heartbreaker. Drove to work to it this morning and forgot just how huge it sounded. The big wobbly gritty in your face bass sound is so aggressive I love it. Would love to use that sound all the time but probably wouldn't get many gigs.
6. An oldie but this is my go to inspiration vid.....I love everything about it. The lads in the background hanging on every fill he does are brilliant. Brilliant stuff
7. Yeh Willie Weeks on Voices Inside by Donny Hathaway for me. groove..musicality..structure and taste...just love it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSdglxtW8Lg
8. http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2015/02/23/improving-your-musical-ears/ right on cue, this is pretty much what I was on about
9.
Eh? EDIT: Not wishing to put words into his mouth, but my interpretation of his post is that Mook was merely conceding that perhaps time saving devices have their uses after-all, allowing more efficient use of ones limited practice time.
Spot on cheers
10.
If someone learns a song to a play along on Youtube surely they're still training their ear? They've still got to listen to the part and figure out what's going on. They might be learning the 'wrong' bassline but then again I've seem transcriptions with what I've thought are mistakes in them. Is it not ear training to learn a part that someone else has worked out and hear it's wrong?
Yeh I reckon this helps.....I've taught a few people though that treat the YouTube clips of people that learnt from YouTube clips of people and so on...as gospel. I totally agree that they are useful to steer people in the direction as long as they have the tools to figure out when the clips are wrong. I never meant that I disagree with using YouTube clips, as I said, I use it myself.....It's just that it's a quick fix now but that's the modern age. At the end of the day music is art and art is subjective so any approach is an individuals choice.
11.
If Mook was interested in being a "classical" musician, then, that would be good advice. However... Assuming that we all have a limited amount of time per day to devote to our instrument, having things like Youtube, electronic tuners and any other time-savers allows us to spend the rest of our allocated time to something more beneficial - that would include proper ear-training exercises.
True, fair comment
12.
Is it lazy? Or is it more efficient? If you acheive the same result in less time, I fail to see anything negative about this
It's more efficient yeh but surely not using your ear to learn can't be as good developmentally.
13.
Dunno about you, but I find a lot of stuff online isn't actually correct or misses a lot of the nuances. If you want a job doing properly...
This is part of what I was trying to say really....
14. Ahh yeh I am just being an old grump, things were better in my day, type thing........Just pointing out how lazy it has made me regarding learning songs......and laziness can't be a good thing if you were looking to progress your playing. Not saying it's only way to progress but surely being able learn a song by ear has to be a big advantage in a lot of musical situations.
15. Just getting a gripe off my chest......I have been playing bass for many a year now and like to think that my ear is good enough that I can get a close enough approximation of a bassline by listening to it. But I find that now whenever I need to learn a bass part I reach straight for the dodgy youtube clips of people playing the lines. Even if their wrong it gives me the general impression of the line and saves me doing the hard work of working it out by ear. It is way too easy now and I can totally understand why people use them or tabs to learn bass parts, but this has to come at a price when you are learning to play. I have, what limited musical ear I have, because I had no choice but to sit down and pick out a bassline bit by bit which could take weeks. It's a shame that no-one really needs to do this anymore and it can only limit future generations musical ears which is so vital, not just for learning songs but for improvisation and last minute dep work. It's a shame.......that's all. Thanks for listening
16. I love love love my lyte.... Highly recommend this bass
17. Hey all.... My MB fusion head has started making a weird buzzing sound. I thought it was a tweeter blown first but tried different cabs, leads, basses and the same with all of them... Used a different head and no weird buzzing noise. I'm guessing it's something electrical but thought I'd see if anyone's come across the same thing....I did a short YouTube clip... Hope you can hear what I'm talking about. It has the three valve pre-amp so figuring (hoping) that it's just a valve that needs replacing. https://www.youtube....h?v=w_0IL0SZZpY
18. I'll repost to the other repairs and technical forum too. cheers
19. Thank you so much for that advice. It's really appreciated. It does have the 3 valve preamp so hopefully it's just one of the valves playing up. I'll do all the testing that you suggested Phil. Thanks again
20. Hope you can hear what I'm talking about Buzzy bass head: http://youtu.be/w_0IL0SZZpY
21. Ahh...interesting. I didn't realise there were different types. Thanks a lot for that info. I just wanted to make sure that I was getting the full output of the bass. Strange though that guitars like Tele and Strats have linear pots if they aren't meant for audio...the sweep on those seem to go up gradually from 0 if I'm not mistaken.
22. Hi all.... I am finding that the output from my volume pots on my Lakland DJ is not gradual.....On a 0-10 there is no volume until about 8.5/9 for either pick-ups. I know it will need to see a doctor for a check-up but just thought I'd see if anyone has any experience of this. Thanks in advance
23. I hate to say it but the last few weddings I have been trying to recreate the wanton disregard for taste and decency shown by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZBic3nD5M0 ....I can't help but be inspired by him. Don't think I'm at the Korean transvestite level yet but a few more weddings and that could be me.
24. I would like to publicly apologise to the bass playing community as during a wedding gig at the weekend I did indeed overplay. I was guilty on the evening of a flagrant use of 16th notes, slapping and harmonics. I know I have let down my fellow comrades with my lack of taste and subtly.........but I really enjoyed it and can't promise that I won't be doing the same next weekend!! Thank you for your time and understanding.....I am now at peace
25. It was the keyboard players brain child and we just jammed it out a few times. Hopefully get to do more in the future
