got in a band environment as quickly as I could
+1 As soon as my (drummer) mate found out I was getting a bass, he asked me to form a band with him - best motivation I could ever have had and I gave me goals to aim for in terms of what I could play and how well I could write songs
here - links through to finnbass where the admin appreciate my efforts
You have to sign in to access that though - I am a member but not everyone is - why don't you copy and paste what you've written there and put it in the basschat wiki?
Welcome Carl, Definitely get some lessond. You'll learn so much faster and develop less bad habits. The quicker you'll learn, the more fun you can have and the greater the chance you'll stick with it.
+1 not that I've had any lessons myself - I've just been in bands since I started and that's what's kept me going! Hi Carl!
That's what I figured you wanted it for, I still feel it's best to rpactice at one tempo, pause, then at a faster tempo, pause etc. I think if you practice with tthe speed continually increasing over time it won't do your time keeping much good as you'll be used to it speeding up. It needn't be a long pause, only a few secs (or however long it takes to up the speed of your click) but I personally feel that obvious diferentiation between the two tempos is very important, and give my students the same advice. Speed can be used as an expression in the same way as pitch, volume etc.
You can deal with that just by putting in an empty bar, surely?

Some sort of delay I think - at the moment I use an ME-50B so I've yet to [s]waste loads of money on individual units[/s] experience the world of having one effect per unit! However I do own a Crybaby bass wah which I enjoy
Sweet jesus that has to be the stupidest looking thing i have EVER percieved, no joke there. And in anwer to your question... i wish i knew too On a side note, how in god's name would you be able to reach the bass side of that bass comfortably and play it fluently? And is there even an application that warrants such a retarded instrument?
It's a bit like this only crap? I'd give it a go for under £100, but I don't honestly believe anyone should take it seriously - it really is the most ridiculous instrument I've ever seen! By the way, reaching over to the bass side shouldn't be that hard - doesn't Jean Baudin have a 13-string bass? I'm sure that's wider!

Guitar pro is a fantastic programme which does this and a whole lot more! Of course, if you have no use for anything except an accelerating metronome, you might feel that you're paying a bit too much (€59), so here's a free version of something which does pretty much the same but is nothing like as good (I'm pretty certain it'll do your metronome thing though)

Lately I've noticed that my left thumb has been bent back quite far on itself behind the neck - I was just wondering if that's bad for my thumb because sometimes it hurts a bit... or do I just need to be tough and ignore it? I don't usually feel it at all but once I get a fair few fingers down on the fretboard, it starts to push back By the way I've probably been doing this for years and not really had a problem - this isn't something that's just come up, but I was wondering if I've been doing myself damage and if so, what should I do to stop?
I can understand perhaps, if he's 70 and has a chronic fear of everything technology, but otherwise i have to say he's an idiot
"Back in my day, we didn't have ELECTRIC guitars, son!" Who else tunes by harmonics? I like that you can also use the 12th and 7th fret to tune in fifths (for dropped D or whatever) or even the 9th and 5th to tune in major thirds (okaeey I have no excuse for that)
-
I can't go out of tune on fretless Nah seriously, for the past couple of weeks I've not been taking my tuner to practise coz it's part of my multi-effects and I can't be arsed lugging that around to hardly ever use it - it's simple enough to tune one string to the guitarists (who use electronic tuners) and then do the rest by harmonics, but I wouldn't do that at a gig... as dood said, nobody wants to hear the tuning song! It's unprofessional, annoying and a waste of time

Haven't seen this posted before; just came across it on a moment ago - a really good live recording:
If Thomann won't take 'em back, stick the double-bag in the For Sale section. If Ped doesn't want it, I'll take it off your hands. At the right price, of course.
Hahaha! If I can't get a refund I'll probably keep it - I do want it, but I've spent the £50 on something else now! My fiancée really likes the look of the bass too, so maybe I'll end up keeping them both... sanity is prevailing over GAS at the moment though, so ideally they'll take them back without a fuss -

Thanks guys! I've e-mailed them now - should get this sorted out soon, hopefully -

When you say "unused"... I've opened both of the parcels and tuned up the bass... nothing else though - am I still okaeey? -
About halfway through February I made an order with Thomann and was informed that my order would have to wait until 29th whilst they waited for more stock to arrive - so I did, but after waiting until last week and hearing nothing, I e-mailed them to cancel my order... I was a bit annoyed but since they hadn't taken the money out of my account I thought it was fair enough and proceeded to buy a new combo and an electronic drum kit This morning at 20 to 8, I received 2 huge parcels, containing my Thomann order and I checked my account and saw that I'd been charged for them After all this time, I'm annoyed that it took so long to arrive and I don't really want it any more! I can understand that it had probably already been dispatched when I tried to cancel it (nice of them to tell me..?), but I'm totally unimpressed with the speed of delivery Anyway, advice from those who've dealt with Thomann before, please? Should I complain and ask for a refund or just cut my losses and list the offending items for sale on basschat? Here they are: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbb...ss_fretless.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_double_bag_trolley_ebass.htm

I seem to recall reading on Wikipedia that "pinky" is the Dutch word for the little finger, but since this page now appears to have been deleted, that may well be a big lie! Of course I use mine - moreso than my ring finger!

"NEW, very unique patented shape. Very popular instrument nowdays" Sounds like a bit of a contradiction?? And they seem to have several of these supposedly unique basses... and it claims it has a solid body?! Personally I wouldn't touch that! I've told my mate (spoobass) who has my old fretless 5 to message you
