1. Bumpity bump, although I'm starting to feel embarrassed putting this among some of the beautiful instruments on offer at the moment
2. I have to say, I tried the demo and it does exactly what it says on the tin!
3.
Thanks everyone, You've been great Anyway I'm was hoping the extra bits needed would be abit cheaper really Could I use: Bridge Tuning Pegs And I play metal, punk, rock everything in that sort of area All this is brilliant and I thank you all for it
The bridge? Not without work. The three point bridge from allparts as alluded to earlier in the thread is the one that will fit directly. Those machine heads will probably work OK, but I'd splash out and get some nice Schallers. Try Thomann for those.
4.
I quite fancy buying the licence but it's $40.
$40? That's £20. You could afford that if you stayed in one night of a weekend, no?
5. Had a thought about scratchplates, in that they cover up vast swathes of the body. Seeing as this is a project as much about showing off my sister's artistic talent as it is providing me with a fretless bass, it seems that there's won't be a lot of space to show off. Coupled with a badass 2, here's the space available with a scratchplate: However, I spied on Allparts a metal control cavity cover and pickup surround. A little GIMP jiggery-pokery and it might look something like this: Of course, I'll have to cover the channel cut between the pickup and the control cavity, but it won't be noticed with a solid finish: What do you think? Anyone used these parts before? Comfy pants or thong?
6. I am offering for sale a 1998 Korean made Squier Jazz in a metallic blue finish. It is in good decorative order, only 3 minor dings as illustrated below. It has a set of Bartolini pickups installed and an unidentified preamp. It plays well and the frets are in good condition. I'm selling it because I've got too many basses and I haven't developed a particularly strong attachment to it, so it'd be better to sell this one on and reinvest Bearing in mind the nice pickups and the good condition for the age, I'm looking for £150 + postage. Here come the pics:
7. Indeed the 3 point bridge is the right one, it's not so bad. It'd be better if you could locate a black one. Alternatively, with some work you could use an original Badass, as seen as this Tokai in the for sale forum: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2983 I think these Barts might fit: http://www.thomann.de/gb/bartolini_ba_t4_cbc_set.htm Just some ideas.
8. The EB-0 is 30.5" scale, not 32". Just checking.
9.
Oh and the gift thing has absolutely no effect on the import limit, that is an urban myth. If it is declared as a gift and worth $100 and HMC&E pick it out, you get slapped with the charges... I know, I tried that
Just to correct you there, it does have an effect. If it's a gift you're allowed up to £36 tax free, if it's commercial goods the limit is a paltry £18. http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalW...=HMCE_CL_000014 See section 2.3 You're right about it have heehaw effect when the value is $100 though
10.
HMC&E are a lot more on the ball these days than they were even a couple of years ago, as more and more people purchase globally using electronic payments etc.
Not always - I ordered a neck from the States recently, about £50 total. The sender marked it as a gift and didn't bother putting a value on the customs form (I didn't ask him to do this, btw). It got delivered no problem. I'd like to point out that I was quite prepared to pay the tax if asked. But hey ho, there you go.
11. Small update to say that the body is now sanded all over at 80 grit. Also discovered that the holes in the neck pocket do not match a standard Fender/Squier neckplate. Either the Bullets were weird or I've been had. Either way, I think I'll eschew the use of a neck plate in favour of recessed bushings a la http://allparts.uk.com/catalogue/product_i...f65e6e7de3e0b42 Design decisions taken so far: Neck: Mighty Mite Precision ebonal fretless Bridge: Badass II (chrome) Pickups: EMG P active Tuners: Schaller BMFL (chrome) Misc hardware: chrome My sister thinks that a dark finish would look best. Am waiting for her thoughts on which scratchplate to go for before placing a wee Allparts order for all the miscellaneous bits and bobs (neck screws, bushings, string tree, strap buttons etc.)
12. "The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing" YES Damn right there's an error in the listing.
13. I've just asked him for photos of the neck plate and the back of the headstock, and also for the serial number and country of manufacture. Don't expect to get a response, but he'll know we're onto him.
14.
Neeph, I believe an email to DC Montana in the US might be in order dont you? (include a link with the details, I believe they will be keen to see this!) As you seem to know the basses alot better than me, maybe you'd like to do it..... I believe you may well be right sir!
I tried that, but there's no contact details on their website, I tried info@ and sales@ and both got bounced. Ahh well, what else can you do?
15.
MB1. Stalking of family members? Now that is bizzare, you might want to tread carefully on this one.
WARNING this guy started stalking my young sister AVOID AT ALL COSTS 20-May-07 12:41 Reply by barbecuedbanana (26-May-07 16:39): This is a lie in response to my negative feedback.
16. I know I have a thread going about this elsewhere, but the more I dig, the less I like! This ebayer (diorscore) is selling DCMontana basses, and the more I look at them the more I think they're fakes: Genuine 77 Bass: diorscore's 77 Bass: Differences I've noticed thus far: "77" logo different size/not underlined Chrome instead of black hardware Chrome instead of black screws in scratchplate/pickups Different screw locations on scratchplate Different pot locations A difficult to believe RRP of £1299 when the US actual site lists as MSRP $1095 Not only that, but a few feedback scuffles, including an accusation of stalking of family members! Has all the hallmarks of a scam to me, anyone else agree? Ebay item: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=200129377544 dionscore's feedback: http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...id=200129377544
17.
i saw these on ebay a while ago and quite liked the look of them - there was some speculation as to whether they were worth the claimed 700-800 quid retail price and in fact if they were actually made in the US as stated. there were a couple of chinese examples that were identical but i can't remember who made them.
Well, for comparison, here is one on evilBay. I am suspicious - see the different screws in the scratchplate, the different knob positions and the different fingerboard inlays? The first pic is direct from the manufacturer's website.
18. Saw this poor EB-1 on the evilBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=130133768507 What have they done? Extra pickup, changed tuners, missing floor peg, refinished, battered to hell. Bought as a collector's item, eh? So it's been collecting dust then, and I reckon will continue to do so at that price.
19. Came across this during a random trek across the internerd, and I can't make up my mind if I like it or not: It's strangely compelling, even though it looks like a blob, or maybe a splat. What do you think? http://www.dcmontana.com/77.php
20. I'm far too sentimental to sell my first bass
21. Have you seen the list of stuff currently for sale? The listings get even terser! http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZdanbass23QQhtZ-1
22. I recently picked up an inexpensive acoustic bass for an experiment and discovered that I quite liked the sound and the convenience of being able to pick up and play without the need for amps, cables or power. So I'm looking to get a half decent one. The one I picked up is fine as a proof of concept, but it's 30" scale, and the pickup isn't that great (one of the strings seems quieter than the others, maybe some TLC required?) Anyway, to business! I quite like the look of the Ibanez EWB20WNE. Here's the official info: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/ac_page.p...&COLOR=CL01 Has anyone had a go of one of these? Anyone got any other suggestions in the >£400 region?
23. From the guidelines at http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?act=SR&f=36 The idea is that you can post ANYTHING that you want to get rid of here on the condition that its GIVEN AWAY I'll take it off your hands for nothing
24.
Thats alot of rubbing down, You should go for nitromorse, great stuff just watch yee dinna burn yer skin!
I might give that a go in future, there's been a few nods in that direction.
i've got a ricky style body you couldve bought for your project but i might do something with it myself, if i can be bothered. How much would your sister charge for a paint job? oo eer! Or is she just dong it cause it's you?
Well, we'll see how this one goes before seeing if we want to do any more
