1. i think it would have been more courteous for the band to ask if you have a problem with getting a dep. in...but IMO its better for the band if they get a dep and get the gig done.
2. the Spector LX 435 is designed to use that tuning, constructed with 35" scale length rather than 34" to cope with drop tuning. maybe look into that? http://www.spectorbass.com/bass_euro_Euro4LX_1.html
3. if you're only going down to D, perhaps a D-tuner might be an idea? if you have your heart set on headless then status may be your best bet, unless you're willing to wait and go custom..... perhaps ask them if its possible to fit a kahler trem. unit? (or maybe go for a bendwell?...)
4.
Are you taking offers?
yup im taking offers. PM me and let me know what you're interested in!
5.
Love that RBXJM2, I still want one !
i was really lucky in that i picked it up fairly cheap. i wanted to own one when i first switched to 6er so since i had money going spare i went for it. lovely bass. sounds a little thinner than my main bass but its very articulate and seriously punchy. very much like a stingray in that respect but it has its own sound thanks to the different preamp. nice fast neck and tight string spacing make it comfy to play im sure there was one for sale on here....might want to see if its still availlable?
6. cheers its taken me a while to get a set up that im happy with, but for the moment, this is it!
7. This is my current set of 3 basses! My main bass is an Indie IB606, modified with filed frets, EMG DC pickups and 3 band parametric preamp and finally a ramp. Shes a bolt on, the body is Ash/Wenge/Ash, the neck is maple/ebony/maple/ebony/maple and the fretboard is rosewood. the neck profile is flatter than alot of 6ers ive seen, but she plays beautifully I bought my Yamaha RBX JM2 late last year when i saw it in a clearance sale as an ex. demo model (having wanted to own one for a long time). shes got a few scars from the shop floor but she plays wonderfully. currently the sole unmodified bass ive owned! very stingray-ish character to the sound, ideal for funk, rock and prog. My last bass is a Spector performer 4 (2003 model). my first 'nice' bass, she got me through my A-level exams and through my grade 8 performance certificate. the only passive bass i own, i use her for jazz work at uni (usually theres a duster under the strings between the bridge pickup and the bridge). My 6ers are strung B - C with Warwick Black Label strings, the 4 is strung E - G with D'Addario chrome flatwounds
8. More gear to sell here, again due to a bass coming my way at the end of the month Head: SOLD the head is a peavey MAX700. bought brand new, its only been lightly gigged, and as such its more or less in pristine condition. No damage to the casing, comes with kettle lead. Was made redundant when i bought my Trace head and has just been in a corner of my room since. power handling is 700 watts @ 2 ohms. features a parametric EQ rather than the graphic EQ of my trace unit. more pictures and specs availlable on request Speaker Cab: SOLD Price: All now sold, many thanks to everyone who showed interest

Newbie

welcome to the party i'm a little biased, but i would say go for a 6er!
10. welcome to the party our official meeter and greeter will be along shortly i think youl find all the information you need right here! everyone is really happy to help with problems, finding the right gear etc. enjoy!
11.
I could certainly try and give it a go, not something I've done before though, I'll have a look through some other reviews when I get 5 to get an idea and try and write one, any particular info thats useful?.
stuff such as: materials, electronics, action, playability, tonal quality, balance (on and off strap?), build quality etc. all go into a good review
12. there seems to be quite a few people out there after a competitively priced 6 string at the moment. perhaps youd be kind enough to do a review for the forum?
13. i would recommend status, spector, GB, Overwater and Sei
14. First off, thats a great recording you've put together there your time feel is top notch! how are you recording? DI'ing from your amp, or going straight into the desk/unit? about the post of it being 'perfect'....it really depends on what you want, wether you want, as you say, a 'perfect' modern studio type recording, or if you want a more raw sound, complete with imperfections. there is no wrong way to record! and theres always a 'point' to it! its amazing how much you can learn about your own playing through recording. good job! ben
15. MK remains one of my favourite bass players i always like to play: dune tune hot water forever now true believers good man in a storm dance on heavy weather the chinese way
16. When im recording its all pretty much flat, sometimes with a little nudge on the bass end, straight into the desk. any other EQ comes at mixing time. very occassionally use distortion and chorus, depending on the track. Live, my amp is flat, bass is flat, bar a nudge on the bass end. i rarely use my pedal board unless its with my Prog. band
17. The Doodle!!! Two of the basses John Myung has noodled on, the Bongo 6 and the Tung Wingbass II 6 string both tickle my fancy
18. All of the Spector models get my vote of confidence. all their models are well built and sound great! my recommendation would be for a Euro series 5 string, but the Legend series basses are all top class, and a bargain to boot!!!
19.
I have never tried single saddle bridges. The 'traditionalist' in me doesn't really like the look of them (I associate them with German weird-shaped furniture basses) plus - although they stop cross-talk between strings - I do wonder whether they have enough mass to anchor the strings properly.
they have more than enough mass to anchor the strings properly. hence why they're so widely used. to each his own though!
20. ohhhhh yeah. a few years back on my first dep. gig id gone down to the bandroom just to have a listen, and their drummer had brought his spector NS-4 along........this when i was gigging my spector performer 4 as my main bass it was love at first sight indeed.....god i wanted that bass P.S - so doctor, will a stingray 5 HH be bass number 62?!
21.
That's exactly wanted to hear. Think I may go for one of these
the sound really is immense! the urge is one of only two fender basses i really like, the other being the geddy jazz. the number of tonal combinations is endless! Oh! i also forgot schaller hardware http://www.bassguitarpartsdirect.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=81
22.
My plan is Urge II with maple neck so I'll look into the electroncs on that. I have a Gotoh bridge on my P and I really like it, what do single units bring to the party apart from looking cool?
they help reduce string to string 'talk' (technical term - sympathetic vibration) its more of a problem on ERBs, with more strings wanting to make noise, but its still noticable on the 4, especially when you're playing at gig volume. if its an urge style bass and a huge sound you're going for, just go for J/P/J, and put all 3 pickups on. a mate at uni has an urge and with that setting the sound is HUGE
23.
SD QP's? I wanted an active preamp would it be possible?
i imagine so, look at what fender did with the Urge II. http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0191508808 that the sort of thing you had in mind? and i would recommend a hipshot or gotoh bridge if you want a one piece. or you could go with individual bridge units
24. i would recommend a spector euro 4 in that case! try and pick one up secondhand if you can. browse the for sale section and see if you can pick one up! http://www.spectorbass.com/bass_euro_Euro4LX_1.html
