Let me add my 1/2p worth (sorry at work and can’t remember all the details you see). I have just had delivery of a custom cover made for my Ashdown Classic head. It’s fantastic Black pleather.. (that’s plastic/leather ok!), white piping and it fits beautifully. I sent a list of dimensions and chose my colour combination and voila, I have a lovely padded cover (that is a bit smelly to start with but that goes pretty quick). I’ll post the company details and price later when I get home. I dealt with a chap called Shaun Dunk and he was very helpful throughout. Highly recommended. Mark
Tom will do a deal on multiple sets too .. Worth an email to ask..
This sounds really interesting, I just need to check what guages I can get in the Elixir range. Just to check, the ones you guys are talking about are Nanoweb? I pick, have terrible technique but don't sweat much and I want that new sound for as long as I can. I am sorely tempted to get a pack, on top of a normal Ernie Ball order, to give 'em a try.

I'd just like to add to the mix - Grog, from Die So Fluid. Purely on her exceptional use of a latex catsuit.. mmmmmmmmmmmm

Thanks for the advice It's only pub gigging at the moment and the PA ain't that brilliant. But I was thinking it would kill two birds with one stone.. clearer monitoring + giving my ears a bit of on stage protection (obv depends on if I have the headphones at a sensible level!). I think I need to have a play with something.
-
Hi all. I am starting to consider getting some sort of in ear monitoring, for myself and our singer (split the cost of course!). But I have never used one so I dunno what is good or bad so I was hoping for a bit of guidence from those that use them. I want lower cost really, nothing special, don't need stereo. Also, this is dumb I'm sure, but can normal floor standing monitors still be used? (The drummer ain't worth the investment!!) do the wireless base units have a through port? Ta muchly Mark

Proto-goth fans out there will know that David J of Bauhaus has used a fretless P bass for.. well.. ever I think! And he gets some great sounds out of it.
I never see any famous bass players using this bass which kind of suggests to me it's not the best choice out there.
Didn't Duff McThingummy use one in Velvet Revolver? Certainly he has one in one of their vids and I think posing with one for a few ads too. I think in black, it looks superb.. one on the list for someday! Mark

So waiting for my new bass. To this point I have had no response from my emails asking if everything is OK and to let me know when the bass is shipped. On checking my paypal account the payment has not been collected by the buyer. OK, I won it 2 days ago but I’m just impatient you see and being such a good ebayer I expect the same back! '59 and '60 LP's are worth big big money. If any one would buy one off ebay is rather debatable!! As to a genuine owner of a genuine instrument hawking it on the bay is again pretty unlikely. That sort of fella needs a huge amount of verification work and will attract those that can afford a very rare classic. Hopefully those that wouldn't worry about snapping a few fingers of some numpty that is trying to scam Them's is the best years ever for that guitar. Vintage stuff fer sher. Mark

Cor blimey! I went and bought this one! £230 + carriage. Not a nightmare loss if turns out to be an utter dog! mmmmm, lovely and black too!
Mark you have the most disturbing avatar ive ever seen! haha Any luck finding a true P yet?
Ha ha!! Yeah I like to tell people it's a pic of my first born! makes me chuckle anyway. Well I have had a reply from the American P bass seller and he seems OK, though I asked for a pic of the headstock. He said "I should have included that, loads of people have asked".. and he still didn't send me a pic! Says it is spotless though. The all black 84-87 Jap one has replied too and again seems genuine and I think it's my prefered one at the mo. A few scratches and some wear and a ding by the jack socket. Nothing from the one with spelling problems!! Just to ask (and push my luck further)... what sort of price is fair on these?? Ta muchly Mark (and son) arf! -

Thanks guys. I'll email 'em for some more info. I agree about the illiterate description and crappy pics, made me worry a bit. The all black Jap one (last of the three links) threw me a bit as the layout of the knobs seems odd, but I think they did that on Jap models of the 80's. Jack socket on the side of the body too? Mark -
Hey fellow bass fanatics. I saw these two ebay basses and they pretty much tick the boxes for what I want - Either a US or preferably a Jap Precision in black with a rosewood neck. The required black s/plate can be added later. So essentially I just wanted a bit of advice from those of you that are Precision gurus. It's not a Lyte (or Lite) is it?? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Precision-Bas...1QQcmdZViewItem Thanks a million Mark

Fantastic stuff, thanks a million for that. I think I'll make an effort to drag my self in to a store and have a twiddle myself (then try out a few basses!). It's frustrating cos I want a black on black precision and I keep seeing other stuff to tempt me!! mark.
Neck dive? Try moving the strap pin as close to the "heel" as possible (yes, I know it's a neck through, hence the quotes)
Yeah. I'm aware of that one and maybe I will once it gets properly tatty. I just hate hacking stuff about.
-
Yeah, I just learned to live with the dive, it really didn't bother me at all after a while. All this talk of TBs, it's making me want another one!!
Do it.

Well, I have a black Gibson T'bird that I bought 2nd hand a few years back and I love it. Starting to get a bit tatty in places, which makes me feel the finish could be a bit more robust to start with. I also have a worry about the headstock getting smacked off one day too.. I know it's a weak spot on these. I love the sound I get from mine, it's big, has mondo sustain, has a dirty edge to it and I just love it. Saying that my Jazz draws me back for twiddling around at home. My T'bird is my main gigging bass (though I am in mind for a Precision that could share the billing) and it just looks damn fine too. What do I hate? The stupid bloody neck dive!! grrrrrrr. And access to the top end frets can be a bugger too. To date, I don't have a heroin adiction.

Indeedy do. One of the original range of ABMs I would say. 400W and 200W heads and combos. The first 200 units were called Klystron Bass Magnifier, but the name was changed after legal issues I believe. My old 200w combo is one of these. Must be a vintage classic collectable now... Well maybe one day! M.
Can't comment on the basses (although it looks nice!) but Captain Sensible raves about the six-string version on his bit of The Damned's website.
He certainly does Deep Thought. And what a highly under rated guitarist too. I believe Stu, their bass player is using ESP too now.

Oh no... I feel a GAS attack coming!!!

I was in a SC yesterday and they had some Italia guitars on the wall. I was immediately drawn to the shiny sparkles. Lots of lovely retro feel details and nice creamy coloured plastic. Anyway, further along was what struck me first as being a most foul bass, but then within seconds I saw the beauty hidden in the beast! Italia Modulo Tipo 3 in a rich blue sparkle, with a crazy raised silver beading around the middle edge of the body. I was unable to plug it in, but my first impression on picking it up was how back breakingly heavy it was. It felt OK to play though, but it's just the fantastic styling of these things. http://www.arbiter.co.uk/italia/electric_b...bass_guitar.htm Has anyone had any real experiance of these guitars? Are they just fancy looking tat,or is there some actual real guitar hidden under those tarty come hither and abuse me looks?!?! And anyone that puts this in the description "Sparkle top on flawlessly applied Mother-of-Toilet-Seat Pearloid.".. that's genius! M

I'm not sure about the ones you listed, but I was in an SC yesterday and they had a Schecter Ricky copy. I wasn't able to plug it in, but an acoustic try out was very pleasing, felt really nice and I liked the neck. It seem reasonably well constructed too! Sorry not too much help! M.
