1. Heh! I used to boil my strings strings back in the 'days of yore' too! Always worked a treat for a couple more gigs before I'd have to go buy new ones.
Never tried this meths in a tube procedure though. I must look into it or maybe you could tell us more about it 51m0n? :)

It would be interesting to A/B them, the Boss, EHX & Joyo
Gona try and get to GuitarGuitar to do just that on Friday avo after work (although the Joyo will be replaced by a Phase 90 seeing as they won't have a Joyo in stock and it's allegedly modelled a Phase 90) so I'll keep everyone posted. :)

I wouldn't totally write off the Joyo...

No, definitely haven't written off the Joyo but I'll try the other suggestions side by side, see which one I prefer and check the Effects For Sale section here before moving on to Gumtree and eBay to see if I can get a cheap s/h one.

In all honesty I'll most likely just buy the Joyo, after all it's only £30 and their other pedals seem to be getting decent reviews on here.
I mean what can you get for £30 nowadays? Half a night out if you're lucky!

4. Hi fellow BC'ers,

Been toying with the idea of getting a phaser but not really up for spending that much money on one (sub £50)
I was trawling YouTube looking for demo's of bass being played through phasers and came across a clip of an MXR M101 Phase 90 which sounded pretty good to my ears but at almost £80 new it's a bit more than I was hoping to spend.

With this in mind I was on e-Bay looking for second-hand Phase 90's when I came across these Joyo Vintage Phase pedals at around £30 all in and it seems they're being touted as MXR M101 Phase 90 clones.

I've read lots of favourable comments here on BC about other Joyo pedals but there's nothing about this phaser. Does anyone have one or has anyone at least used one, and if so, how does it compare to the MXR pedal it's supposedly based on.

I mean for £30 I'll more than likely just buy it but would appreciate some feedback if at all possible. :)

Thanks in advance,
Ian

5. I run my old Trace AH250 (250watts @4 Ohms) into a single Trace 4x10 which is only rated at 200watts @ 8 Ohms and it's perfectly fine. Because the head only has an 8 Ohm load it runs at 165 watts as opposed to the full 250 so I can't see any issues with your set-up.

6. Cheers RR! :)

The 'Live Dance' tag is how the guitarist describes the band (it being his baby) but I do like your 'metal Ozric Tentacles' analogy! Very nice! :D
We have a few singers lined up in the coming weeks - mostly being rock or metal guys - so will be interesting to see what comes out of the next few rehearsals/auditions.
I'll keep you posted...

dunno, great choice of tune though. I posted a solo bass arrangement of that tune on here a while ago - shall I dig it out for you?

Man I'm doing this (along with Brush with the Blues) for my mate's degree show and am stuck between the Joni/Jaco arrangement and the Jeff Beck arrangement.
Would love to hear your solo piece! :)

8. Here's a new outfit I recently joined - Deluded Buddhas. (There's a 'Riffs' page)
Personally I think it's really good the way it is but there's talk of adding a vocalist and I'm not sure it would work so I'm looking for thoughts from y'all (Sorry - just listened to Bilbo's Country thang!)
Mostly using a fretless but with the 'Holy Trio' on the first track (OD-3, extremely mild octaver and envelope filter set to really quite squashy!)
I'm relatively new to effects so any thoughts and/or guidance would be appreciated :)

Hope you enjoy...

PS - it was the guitarist who cut it all together and he kinda likes the 'wooooow' thing on the first track!

9. I have a very similar one currently stored at my singer's house (along with an amp of course) for impromptu rehearsals! The only difference being mine's white (well off-white now!) and has a single JB pup at the bridge.

I had it lying around gathering dust for years so I decided to dust it off, put a new set of strings on, set it up and it plays and sounds great! :)
