1. Ta - yes I'd heard they were well thought of and not that common. I may do that BassTractor - it seems slow getting the hang of Good Times lol
2. Ooh it's lovely (not that I am well placed to judge - returning to bass as a previously failed beginner It looks great, feels nice, but doesn't seem to know many songs
3. As a previously-mostly-guitarist I recently had a bif of an epiphany* and needed to buy a Bass, and cutting a short story even shorter shelled out for a used SUB Stingray online. It will arrive in a few days - I bought it based on a couple of pictures and a vague memory of the USA Subs being well thought of (and a quick confirmation of that memory with a bass-playing friend) , so now I'm filling my time waiting by imagining how bally wonderful it is going to be and thought I should track down the thoughts of those more experienced. Sooo, anyone here got or had one and care to pass comment? ta Tim * - I've been playing guitar less and less, and listening to basslines more and more, and have always been a rhythm junkie (I'm as likely to be caught listening to 'Everybody Dance' on a loop for the bass, or a Stanton Moore album for the groove as anything else)
4. I just wanted to say thanks for the info in this thread, and for the Blog posts - damn good stuff :-)
5. Hi - is this the more recent version with the holes in the front face for power cables ? thanks Tim
6.
Oh dear, I do seem to have ruffled your feathers!
I'll concede being a bit of a dick over this - I appear to be in a less than entirely positive mood this week Tim
7.
Wasn't aware that I had made "a very bold statement"
The one about dead children? Yeah, silly me.
classic passive-aggressive behaviour??
If you can't see it, again in those posts, then yep, that's funny.
8.
Yeah, you've got a point. Not knowing a young lady called Angie is really quite similar to never having experienced the appalling, brutal treatment of African Americans. Kinda feels to me like saying to someone who has lost a baby in the most awful circumstances, "I know how you feel". Fact is, most of us don't have a clue. Anyway, I didn't want to make a big deal of it. As I said in post #22 it is only my view, and having discussed this subject with many musicians over the years, I am fully aware that I'm in the minority.
Making a very bold statement then drawing back with 'I don't want to make a big deal' is classic passive-aggressive behaviour - do you want to discuss it or not? For the record, that doesn't kinda feel anything like similar. I just find the whole "white men can't sing the blues" argument to be a silly one.
9.
You touch upon an area which has energised me for some time. IMO there's nothing more perfectly buttock-clenching than watching a plump white-collar middle-aged Englishman singing about 'his' experiences on a chain-gang in 1930's Alabama. It's just silly. Parchman Farm. Don't go there. Not sure that it's wrong, though. If someone wants to cover a song they like and with whose sentiments they sympathise, then it's between them and their audience. But I think they're missing the point about da Blooz, which is that it was - originally - mostly about personal or contemporary 'issues'. Problem is, people deliver the old songs without really understanding what they mean. The words are just sounds that they're trying to reproduce. For me, performance is about engaging minds as well as feet. So blues without meaning - and I don't mean this unkindly - is lacking in foundation. If one wishes to more fruitfully engage with the blues, it might be more rewarding to update and more precisely localise the message. This entails re-writes or originals, which flies in the face of certain audiences' expectations. It's not easy. Equally - given that much of the blues canon was informed by then-prevailing social and political circumstances, it's difficult not to step on someone's long-dead toes. Even though the motivating social deprivation is entirely unarticulated, one might argue that "Saturday Night Fish Fry" or "House Rent Boogie" or "Born under a bad sign" should be equally off-limits. At which point the pool of available covers would shrink by an order of magnitude such as to clog setlists with even more renditions of the 'same old songs'. Back to the drawing board.
I'm going to register a big fat "disagree" with this Similarly unless I really have been shook all night long, is ACDC off limits? What if I don't know anyone called Angie? Stones denied? Piffle. Enjoy the music. If you can feel the groove, and plant that in your audience, get on with it. If you can identify, with any aspect of a song, even in a fairly oblique sense, and it helps you put that song across even better, then that's fantastic. But nothing is off limits on the grounds of 'credibility'.
10. Nothing heard, and I've just splashed this cash on something else, so someone else can snap this up now.
11. Go on then I'll bite :-) Been meaning to replace the one I sold. How do you prefer payment? Tim

14. Hello, do you still have these? Are they all the 0.155 cable (the narrower of the 2 George L types) ? ta Tim
15. Sold pending arrangements for meetup Will post again if it falls through for any reason. (and cheers to Tengu for the comment )
16. Selling my trusty Soundcraft Spirit Folio mixing desk. This is an older model and not in the current Soundcraft range - more info here : http://www.soundcraft.com/products/product.aspx?pid=85 Particularly impressive are the routing and connectivity features - far more comprehensive than you get on any current basic mixers, take a look at the manual link below : aux sends each with level controls, 1 pre-fade, 1 post-fade, 1 switchable aux send, swept mid eq, 2-track input with switch to select main mix or not, PFL on each channel which engages the LED meters, inserts on each channel : all of these things are not rocket science, but to get them all on something affordable is unusual. My fave high-end feature that you just don't get at this price : full 100mm faders - it makes a difference (in my opinion) It's lightweight, has a built-in handle for carting it around, but it can also be rack mounted (I contactetd Soundcraft - they still sell the rack mount kit for £20-odd and replied to me within hours - very reassuring. I was so impressed with it I have bought the daddy of the range with more inputs and groups, so this one is now surplus which is the only reason for selling. I'd like £80 for it plus post (or pickup from Swindon (eves and w/e) or Bristol (daytime)) Manual : http://www.soundcraft.com/downloads/fetchf...ides&id=690
17.
How does the Klon Centaur compare with other overdrives? I know it is very popular among guitar players but how does it sound with bass? Any tone loss? Thanks, SF
I've never heard of it being used on Bass (hence originaly listing this in the "other" section but it got moved ) and it was specifically designed for guitar, so I'm sure there are better options for the price for bass (just being honest )
18. EDIT - both now sold Klon Centaur - rare, sought after, 14+ weeks lead time to order new. I ordered this one last year, took delivery in March, have loved and looked after but now need to fund some further PA purchases Boxed, with papers, as new. £300 Boss RC-2 Loopstation - fantastic looper pedal boxed, papers, as new - £100
19. Recently bought some PA gear from Martin - nice easy transaction and the gear was in top condition, he even threw in some cables that hadn't been advertised as part of the deal. Thanks Martin, Tim
20. **SOLD through ebay** '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue in perfect as-new condition complete with footswitch and Fender cover. Perfect reissue of the worlds most recorded amp. Captures the Blackface sound perfectly with on-board valve-driven Reverb and Tremelo. Can be pushed at sensible stage volumes to provide classic blues and classic rock sounds, or backed off to the usual territory of amazing Fender clean. It's in perfect nick, recently re-valved and biased by Simon Law (he of Guitarist mag fame and Matt Schofield's tech) so no concerns about immediate follow-on costs of re-valving or servicing. Asking £600 Amp is in Swindon but I travel the M4 and would deliver (or bring for viewing if you are serious) anywhere along it from West London to the M5 for free, or other meetup by mutual agreement. ta Tim p.s. other pics by request
21.
Hi Tim, You're welcome to come and listen to them when you're ready. They're in totally new condition. Give me an idea of timescales, and I'll hold off putting them on eBay; they seem to go for around £600 on eBay without cases etc. Cheers Martin
I honestly can't say - I've stuck something on gumtree : have had my arm bitten off in the past and other times been stuck with said item for months. Let me know if you move them on before I come back (or if you list them at a lower start price )
22. Ooh - I'm very interested in these - and only up the road from you too. I have to sort the sale of a couple of things I have been putting off selling first so I'll get on to that Tim
