For low gain for bass I actually think the Barber Half-Gainer is the ultimate pedal if slightly overkill

It's based on the Barber LTD which is a dedicated low gain unit with very transparent but sweet drive

Not only does it add a channel so you have two drive settings but a very versatile Bandaxall style Tone control (Neutral at 12:00, treble cut and bass boost to the left and Bass Cut treble boost to the right)a dedicate Mid's/Character Control that gives either mid cut or boost with changes to freq point and curve and internal trim pots one for presence and Bass. Only fault I had with it was it was slightly big  pedal (although hardly much bigger than fulldrive just orientated differently)

Actually think this was one of the most underrated overdrive pedals of all time and that Barber is a lost hero of the boutique world. It's a shame it's now discontinued.

As someone extremely sensitive to low end or sub loss from overdrive pedals this pedal was perfect as I could dial it in to be essentially a completely transparent drive which simple added gain to the bass signal presented (which ironically takes a fair amount of eq adjustment) or a very wide range of overdrive sounds from scooped to mid-boosted. For low gain it was simply the best option in my mind.

I recently picked up a Barber Linden - I'm not sure it will find a place on my board but it is really really well built and sounds great. I imagine one with a bit of gain would be *chef's kiss*

I guess if Panda are not VAT registered, then I could see it making a difference. Need someone above my pay grade on VAT issues to explain it better though!

No different to importing kit from the USA, Japan, Korea, Indonesia or China though?

Except there’s no sales tax buying out of state in us - so cost price is cost price and then vat is added for us at import.

the system HMRC set up is that they wanted international sellers to pay and register and collect the VAT for them. Obviously that’s not something a small seller would the burden and cost of, I get the feeling a lot of them will just include the VAT in their territory put it in the mail and let it get charged UK VAT on top.

    it’s all a bit rubbish

But wasn't that always the case on new gear? My point is that hasn't changed, we've always had to pay VAT on new kit whether from home or abroad - shouldn't be a surprise?

In my understanding The difference is the way that our government have tried to implement vat collection is fairly onerous for small businesses abroad - so for someone like Thomann it’s no problem and they can carry on like before, but some sellers like panda audio just have one price and don’t seem to have an export price - so effectively you get charged twice

Man, The Admiral has both quantity AND quality. I’ve just got quantity ha ha 😆. Seriously Mr Admiral, your boards are bonkers and are how you are supposed to do it, hats off to you sir 👍🏻

Your Aguilar board is cute though, and @admiralchew doesn’t have one of them

My church is considering using the ChurchSuite app to help organise everything, does anybody have experience of using it?  What are your thoughts?

Very good - just basically for organising events, kids work, comms and everything. Rotas for worship is just a tiny part.

I’ve got it so my weeks worship rota syncs to the family calendar, I can arrange swaps and just put them in the system and it updates it for everyone.

It’s also fantastic for safeguarding means we can document every kids work session without effort. We have an iPad screwed to wall and parents register kids on arrival and take numbered wrist band. We then register kids and adults (all dbs checked) and manage ratios etc. and at end swap children for wrist bands. Previous church had registration set up to printer and printed sticker that got stuck on child back… doing this properly without it would be really laborious

Events can be added and registration and payment (if applicable) can all be done via church suite.

Don’t worry they are leaving just lets me not need to worry about the modulation side of things on the board. My fuzzes and drives are staying

I'm going to have to go find a picture of your board and then work out how much of it is modulation! :D Is modulation and stuff level 1, 2 or three of the board :D

Aaaargghhh! I'm so terrible at making decisions 😅😬😵‍💫

I keep flip flopping on it, and this afternoon was pretty decided on just getting a zoom B1 Four! 😅

@fretmeister I've been looking out for used Stomps, but they seem to go for around £400 anyway, so I don't know if it's better just to get a new one and have the warranty, as it's not much more.

Genuine question guys: although the stomp is clearly well respected, it has been out for a while, and I get the impression that a lot of die-hard digital/modelling guys are viewing the Line 6 range as slightly 'old hat' now compared to their competitors. What are your thoughts on this? How 'future-proof' is the stomp? Is there likely to be a newer version in the near future?

    Thanks 🙏

The last few on here secondhand have been £300-320 ... they are about...

Is it end of line? Well yes and no.

It's a digital effect... at some point it's going to be outdated, probably in more than 20 years time, but still.... will there will be some new shiny thing in the future, yes, will the "upgrade" be much more than what the Helix line is now? Maybe modelling of guitar amps maybe, but I question how much difference/improvement it would make for bass where the needs are slightly different...

Also the last update was only a few months ago, and the HX one has just come out, while it's clearly a way of spinning the line out (like a mid stage face lift on a car) it's not like they could not support something thats only just come out....

And, crucially, is there anything out, in a similar price bracket with the similar features that is better? not really.

(total curveball, if you wanted the volume/wah the full size Helix secondhand loose more value than the stomp, and in some ways for big digital multifx it has more competition than the stomp)

  10. I have had the Zoom B3, then B3n (and still a MS70cdr) and the HX is a step up IMO.
It is more than good enough. And you can buy that and know it's as good as you can get for your money... I was looking recently for a digital pedal but only for delay reverb and some modulation.... the choice was cheap (the MS70cdr) through to expensive (H90) and in the middle the HX ... which I don't think anything gets close to feature set etc.

That said I did sell mine - but that was to move away from digital multifx

  11. The HX stomp, in my mind is in a class of its own.
If you're going digital effects, for price/size/features and everything it's well worth it.

I do really like the idea of having one box that can do everything, and also be used for guitar, as I'd like to get back into home recording.

It is exactly this. ESP if you're thinking of guitar it's even more useful.
Of your current pedal board it can replace everything but the volume pedal and wireless.

And they hold value secondhand consistently, which can't really be said for the sonicake....

I would just find a HX stomp secondhand... if you don't like it, sell it on
