1. Wow, looks fantastic with the Status neck. I love maple fretboards but this bass with the dark neck looks much better than the standard config, in my opinion!
2. Very nice. Nice price too. Merry Christmas, and a bump on me!
3. Here's my shout. Tasteful, musical and really works to build up the sax section (skip to 1:47): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TYv2PhG89A&ob=av2e
4.
I got that one! I only call in on the off chance of finding something but they price off the internet so the chances of finding a true bargain are slim, Saying that I remember someone buying a Wal from the Bolton shop for about £200..
How was it in the end? Cash Converters is one of those places where you'd have to pop in every day to stay on top of all their stock. There was an Aria Pro II Japanese-made hollowbody electric guitar in the one in Liverpool a couple of years back, I think it was £80. I tried to persuade my then-bandmate to buy it but he stalled on it; by the time we came back the next day it'd gone.
5.
The one in Bolton had a Taylor Acoustic in a few weeks ago for £200, i was gutted that i didn't get paid early enough. Liam
Similar story- 3 or 4 years ago I saw a Peavey T-40 in Cash Converters in Wigan for £100. Gutted I didn't get it, as I was on a break from a recording session at the time and could've done with a new toy to play with in the studio!
6. My Super 8 Cynics bandmates Ady and Mike hit Manchester recently to film a new vid for one of our tracks, 'Doing What I've Always Done', which stars the indomitable Jon Baker from Ady's covers/bill-paying band the Funtime Frankies. It's literally gone online in the past 5 or 10 minutes, so be one of the first to check it out. Bass-wise, that's my Stingray 4 through (if I can remember rightly) a Trace head (can't remember which head specifically- the rig belonged to our synth player and he's since moved it on) and a Trace 2x10, with a touch of Sansamp grit added on Pro Tools. It's been ages since we recorded the track for our (still as-yet unreleased) debut album. I think this one was recorded back in 2009, but we've only just got round to getting a video done for it (or rather, doing a video for it ourselves). Note the suitably retro tom sound on the pre-chorus drum fill! The synths are (mostly) Mike's retro collection, including a Moog Rogue, Roland Jupiter 8 and a few other bits of expensive kit like the DSI Prophet 08. Enjoy! 7.
beautiful.... still available??
Just about to get back to you on FB when I saw this- thought you might be interested! Looks fantastic in white, I'd be surprised if nobody has snatched this up.
8. Saw this same setup a few months ago on here, is this the same one? Can't remember who the seller was though. I'd snap this up if I could justify getting rid of one of my basses and shifting my (extremely heavy) Peavey combo which I only get to see when my band rehearses. That, and if I could get it to gigs on the train! Have a bump on me.
9. Beautiful that mate. I've got designs on a Jazz Bass when funds allow.
10. I'll keep an eye out for it. Hope you get your bass back. Aigburth is a lovely area but unfortunately there are opportunists everywhere, in every city.
11. With the Aria Pro II... And a trimmed band promo shot taken a few months ago in Llandudno!
12. As a few others have said, it's really hard to pick only 5. Here's my 5 current bassists, with the 'unmoveables' of the list elaborated on: 1. Stuart Zender (Jamiroquai) - my first favourite band at age 10-11, and the first band where I really listened to the bass without really knowing what it was! 2. John Taylor (Duran Duran) - I first 'got into' DD when Astronaut was released in 2004, when I was 16 or 17. I was still a guitarist at the time, but something about them appealed to me. When I switched over to bass it was largely as a result of getting hold of the first 3 DD albums and realising that everything I wanted from my own bands- synths, funky guitar, interlocked disco bass + drums- was there in DD's music. My overall favourite bassist as he's got everything in my opinion- the looks, the tone, the skill (whilst staying tasteful and melodic). 3. Derek Forbes (Simple Minds) 4. Mick Karn (Japan) - so weird to listen to. Beyond imaginative, and eye-opening to me. 5. I'll go for Bernard Edwards here!
13. Lovely bass, can't beat a natural/maple Jazz Bass. Seen someone use one on here without a scratch plate and it looks the puppies privates. Good luck with the sale.
14. Music Man SUB 5 would be my shout. US built and around the £300-£350 mark second hand. I'm a 4-string player through and through and I've found the transition to the SUB really easy when I've been jamming around. In a lot of ways, I find it easier to play faster, more complex lines on the 5 string.
15. I'm considering getting shut of my Akai Headrush delay pedal which a ) I just don't use often enough and b ) is a little too large for my pedalboard. It's a lovely pedal, which I bought second hand earlier this year, but it's never seen any serious use despite it being a permanent fixture on my pedalboard. I've jammed with it at home a few times, but when I'm playing with my band I just can't find any use for it. I love the idea of using delay on bass but at this moment in time I could use the cash, or a pedal that might come in a little more handy for '80s influenced "dark, anthemic pop/rock" (so goes the band brief). Condition-wise this pedal works absolutely fine. Cosmetically there's a few scuffs and scrapes but nothing major- the biggest of these flaws is that the plastic knobs are a little 'scuffed' at the top, which is the condition that the pedal came to me in. I'll post some pictures if anybody shows any interest! I'd let this go for £80 posted, or I would trade for something that I think I would find a lot more useful/essential. I'm not too sure what exactly I'm looking for, but I'll consider anything so fire any suggestions you have at me if you're looking for a nice delay pedal! Cheers, Jack
16. Beautiful bass. Never thought much of Bongos' before but this one is lovely.
17.
My sympathies... house moving is such a treat! No worries mate. I keep forgetting irony doesn't translate well in text.
It's hard to argue with the price you're asking for the pedal. If someone picks it up before I do then good on them! If it doesn't sell I'll be lurking so just drop me a line on here (not that I won't be dropping in every now and again anyway!).
18.
I take it that's a no thanks then Bumpity.
Still pondering! I'm watching from a distance at the moment (I'm moving in to a new house so I'm on a strict- non-existent- budget at the minute), deliberating what to get rid of so that I can have a go on this thing! If it goes it goes, and that'd be my fault for taking too long, but I'll let you know as soon as I can. Jack
19. Nothing too fancy on mine, it does the trick great though. I've only just found a use for the looping function on the Head Rush though (I was thinking about getting rid of it for the amount of space it uses up, plus its lack of use!) but I'll probably keep it now. Before I picked that up, I was using an EHX Echo #1 which was OK, but didn't have tap tempo and suffered a noticeable volume drop. I'm really proud of the board itself as I made it from an old drill case I had to take to bits and modify, so that the lid could lift all the way off as opposed to it opening from one side only (a tough, time-consuming job for someone who's not a DIY enthusiast!). The case is lined with a rubber car floor mat (from Wilko- old faithful) which glitters under stage lights (the photo doesn't show it up well). The only thing is, I'd love to add more pedals and can't bring myself to replace anything!
20. Brilliant deal, I'd love to go for this but as I'm moving into a new house in the next few weeks all my gear money will go on rent!
21.
I will be there mate, as I play bass in Dresden Shaping up to be a great night all round by the sounds of it.
Hi mate, nice to speak to you! I'm looking forward to this, it should be good. With the risk of sounding cliched, I've listened to your stuff online and it's brilliant so it'll be good to see you playing live. I'm trying to do the rounds advertising the gig online. Good to speak to another Stingray fan in any case! Jack
22. My band Super 8 Cynics are playing at the launch of a compilation album at Peter Hook’s Factory, Manchester, (we were handpicked to feature on a showcase of the North West’s top independent talent) on Saturday 28th May (this coming Saturday). Here is a snippet from our press release providing some info on the gig: Super 8 Cynics were spotted by former Ministry of Sound Director Tony Rigg while touring with their self-titled debut album earlier this year. The Northern five-piece’s slick studio sound is more than matched by their formidable live act, which attracted the attention of Rigg and his new independent record label, The Laboratory Project. The track “Hollywood Lied” will feature on the compilation, and its video will be premiered on the launch night. Super 8 Cynics were founded as a disparate group of session musicians assembled by front man Ady. It was only after weeks in the studio each of them realised they’d finally found their ideal band mates. Guitarist Neal and drummer Paul’s hard rock influences combine with the pop and New Wave styles of bassist Jack and synth guru Mike. Songwriter and vocalist Ady’s smooth yet powerful baritone completes the sound. The band are currently playing gigs throughout the UK, and have already gained a dedicated following throughout the North West within less than five months of live performances. The Taste Masters 2 launch party will be hosted by MC Tunes, with live sets from Super 8 Cynics, China White, Antistar, Salford Jets, Jimmy Docherty and Dresden. Tickets to the launch party cost £6 each and include entry to the Stone Love club night. They are available via super8cynics.com Taste Masters 2 is available to download from all major sites from 28th May. Tony Rigg said: “The problem with the music business today is it is more about business so most of the music we get is manufactured to formula. The laboratory project is anti contrived pop and pro organic music. We are committed is to exposing brilliant, original music, hence the Super 8 Cynics fit perfectly into our artist portfolio.” If anyone is in Manchester city centre on Saturday night looking for some top-notch music to listen to (plus other bonuses) then please pop along and check us out. Drop me a line on here if you'd like a ticket reserving as it promises to sell out. Here's a vid of us playing at our last gig in Manchester, at Moho Live: www.super8cynics.com Cheers everyone! Jack
23. What's the low-end suck like on the Flanger (if any)? I'm looking for a new toy to play around with some Simple Minds-style tones and seeing as my budget doesn't stretch as far as the MXR flanger (at the moment anyway) this looks interesting.
